《Loveless Marriage》Special Chapter 2

'Good for you, you look happy and healthy. Not me if you ever cared to ask' Good for you by Olivia Rodrigo's song blasted into my ears as I walked down the aisle in the supermarket. I was bopping my head to the beat because come on, the song is amazing.
My basket was half filled with items, bringing the weight down a little. The song continued to play as I picked off more items on the list that Mom wanted me to get for today's dinner. I thought back to Hannah, thinking about how happy she was on her honeymoon with her husband now.
Honestly, that man was a douchebag but now he just changed his way of thinking and was as attracted to Hannah as she was to him. I was happy for her, having her experience so much. Even though I was a little suspicious about Daniel, he kind of proved himself by saving her from her uncle, Paul.
You forgive anyone hot!
I rolled my eyes to myself as I picked a few more items only to bump into someone. "I'm so sorry-" I stopped realizing it was the person who broke all the other stuff the other time I was here. "YOU!" We both shouted at each other. "What are you doing here?" I asked, pointing at him. "You threw a tomato at me," The man spoke.
Oh sweet baby Jesus, his voice is so sexy. I would just jump his- wait no, stop. Focus.
"You bumped into me and threw bills at me like a snob! What did you expect I would do?" I questioned him, stepping just a little further away from him. "I had expected you would take the money and pay for the things that had been broken. And for that, you throw a tomato at me?" He asked, his silhouette expanding(I don't know how either). "Listen, I don't want anything to do with you now or ever. So please, just disappear." I stated, before walking past him.
Call me by your name by Lil Nas X started playing on my phone, the sound projected into my Air Pods as I continued to walk ahead only to be held back by something. "You cannot just walk away without an apology," The guy stated, his hand wrapping around my arm. "Oh I can and I will. Watch me!" I replied bitterly as I pulled my arm from his grasp and walked ahead.
Please, as if I will ever meet you again!
Errr, how did I end up in this situation?
As much as I tried to hide behind Hannah, the man continued to stride forward. "Dylan!" Hannah called out. Dylan?! "What are you doing? Who are you calling?" I whispered into Hannah's ear, only for her to cast a slight glare at me. The man stopped when he reached both of us. "Hannah," He greeted, his eyes darting between the both of us. "Dylan, I think I have yet to introduce you to my best friend and colleague. This is Joseph. Joseph, this is Dylan, my brother." When she finished, my eyes were wide.
"Your brother?!" I squeaked, my eyes bouncing to Hannah's. She nodded furiously before looking back to Dylan. "Daniel, I quote, allowed me to fetch you back home today. So here I am," He spoke, his gaze fixed on Hannah. She laughed a bit before sobering up. "Let's go, let's go." She replied, before placing the clipboard down. I opened my mouth to bid her goodbye when Dylan's question struck me.

"Should we drop your friend off too?" He asked Hannah, sizing me up. "Yeah, you should come Joseph," Hannah suggested, looping her arm into mine. "Ummm, I drove today remember? I can go back by myself, don't worry." I replied, looking at her. "Right, I forgot... sorry." She apologized to which my eyes furrowed.
I messed her hair up just for the fun of it and chastised her for her apology. "Wait wait, maybe you can come home today and we can have dinner together? Come on Joseph, please?" She pleaded with her big eyes. I sighed and nodded. She did a mini dance and pulled me away from the nurse's station.
After her honeymoon, Hannah was more carefree and she enjoyed every little small thing. As surprising as that was, I felt really happy that she was feeling better. Her attitude sometimes rubbed off on me making me feel extra happy. She deserved every bit of happiness she could get.
Dylan followed us to the parking lots when I stopped. "I'll follow you home, Hannah," I looked down at her and slowly released my arm from hers. "Come with us, I'll get someone to drop your car off at your house," Dylan spoke, rendering me speechless. "Yes yes, come," Hannah replied, pulling me into Dylan's car. Dylan started to drive the car out of the hospital when he struck his hand at me.
"Car keys," He stated and I rolled my eyes and passed it to him. Then I pulled my phone out and shot a text to Hannah.
Hannah heard the text and pulled her phone out only to look at me weirdly. I signalled her to read it and she did, after rolling her eyes.
😆
🙄
Hannah started giggling to which I rolled my eyes at her. Dylan pulled up at her house and I sprang out of the car, not wanting to be in his presence anymore. Hannah too got out of the car and walked me inside. I almost resisted the urge to look back at Dylan, but when I did, his smouldering eyes were fixed on me. Hannah pulled me into her house, just as I thanked god.
Daniel was waiting for Hannah with his arms open wide. It looked so cute that I died a little it. Hannah ran into his arms, both of their arms banding around each other as her laughter rang across to me. I made sure there was enough space between the couple and me, waiting for their moment to end. Daniel whispered what looked like sweet nothings and Hannah smiled back at him. They would have continued if Daniel's eyes didn't reach mine. I looked away immediately, not wanting to intimidate him in any way.
I still remember the way his eyes literally shot daggers in my way as I sat in Hannah's(Daniel's?) car as he was talking with Hannah. I was definitely scared shitless because as much as I love hot men, I absolutely do not want to be murdered by them. Daniel placed Hannah down and wrapped his arm around her back. Okay, jealous Daniel is here. What the fuck should I do to get him off my back? I gave him a small smile and fixed my gaze on the floor.
"Daniel, stop it. I told you Joseph is my best friend,"
"To you maybe. How do I know that he's not pining after my wife?" Hannah blushed and smacked him lightly on his shoulder.

"Because I'm not pining over her, Mr Young. She is my best friend and will be that for the rest of my life despite any falling outs. If you have a problem, just let me know and I will gladly step away from your view. But don't expect me to stop being friends with her. She's stuck with me as I am with her. I would be a fool not to be friends with such an amazing person." I crossed my arms, but inside I was this close to falling to my knees.
"Told you so," Hannah wiggled free from Daniel and walked towards me. She slide her arm into mine and pulled me into the kitchen.
"Don't mind him, he's just weird at times."
"Of course," I nodded and relaxed my face a bit. She poured me a glass of cold water and one for herself. After finishing that, we relaxed against the island and settled into silence.
"So my brother..."
"Nope, we are not talking about him."
"But he was all you talked about for a few weeks after the incident!"
"That was before I knew he was your brother."
"And now?"
"And now, I'm just going to forget about him."
"Joseph, Dylan is not that bad."
"I don't know, Hannah. You forgave him because of his recent behaviour towards you. I haven't forgiven him for hurting my friend. All those times you were down, I didn't know if it was because of Daniel or Dylan. Either way, they hurt you in their own ways. You've forgiven them, I'm still finding a reason to forgive them. So no, we are not going to talk about your brother."
Hannah nodded slowly. She definitely thought that I was being an idiot for being angry at them, but I justify myself for being mad. We were resting on the island when Dylan entered. We both looked up at him and he unbuttoned his sleeves and rolled them out.
"I'm going to cook dinner. What do you want to eat Hannah?" His eyes never strayed from Hannah. Right, what was I thinking? Why would someone like him even look at someone like me? Hannah looked at me and I shrugged. I just wanted to get this over and done with. Hannah replied with an anything. The both of us offered to help him cook but he shoved us out of the kitchen.
When I say that I insisted that I catch a cab back home, I mean I almost threw a tantrum like a baby so that Dylan, the imbecile, won't have to take me home. But of course, with Hannah, nothing was accomplished. Boohoo. Now I'm on the way home, in Dylan's car with him as the driver.
I would be lying if I said that I hadn't peeked at his muscular body at all. I mean, who can resist that? I for sure can't, which sucks because he caught me staring at him multiple times, despite the embarrassment. "What are your intentions with Hannah?" His voice boomed over the blowing wind, which I had caught refuge in for a while.
"What do you mean, what are my intentions with her? She's my best friend, of course, I want the best for her." I snapped at him, shooting him a glare. "If you hurt her, I will kill you," He replied in the most calming tone. "Oh please. I know what she has been through. And if you had spent enough time with her, you would know how well I treat her. I made sure that she was well fed when you had your head shoved far up your ass. I have treated her way better than you ever will," I paused, only then realizing how rude I sounded.
Guilt was prominent in Dylan's eyes and he tightened his grip on the steering wheel. "Do you plan to separate her from Daniel?" He asked, seemingly burying his anger. "I mean, I will if he hurts her. That's what best friends do." I replied, looking back out the window. "You would not separate her from Daniel because you love her?" His question made me form wrinkles on my forehead.
It took me a while to realize what he was implying and when understanding took place, I barely managed to hold in my laughter. "Of course I love her. But I will only separate her from Daniel if he hurts her again." I replied, looking back out the window. "And your unrequited love isn't going to make you change your decision in the near future?" He started to slow down near my street. "What's which the questions, Dylan? I didn't think that it would make much of a difference if she was better or not." The car stopped as the GPS informed.
"I was stupid, yes, I know. You don't have to keep rubbing salt into my wounds. I made mistakes and I am trying to make amends. I was stupid to make Hannah do things she didn't want to without even realizing what she was going through. I am trying as hard as I can to make amends. So I just want to know if you're going to be a threat to Hannah." His face was hung low so his voice seemed muffled. "I'm not, and I never will be knowingly. I don't ever want to hurt her because she's my best friend. All I want for her is to be happy for the rest of her life, even if that means that I have to leave her." I replied, before getting off the car.
I didn't give him a glance and walked into my house. My mom was fast asleep so I tried not to make a lot of noise and got into my bed after a change of clothes. I tried not to let my mind wander to Dylan and how my words had hurt him. People make mistakes, I know that better than anyone else. People can be classified to make two kinds of mistakes. One where they can be given a second chance and one where they should never be given a second chance.
Dylan was horrible to Hannah, made her pay off his debt and didn't get her parents off her back. But if he had known to the full extent of what Hannah had been suffering as he did now, I believe that he would not have been horrible to Hannah and would have tried to help her in any way possible. I think he deserves his second chance. He is changing his ways and trying to protect her.
I shook my head of those thoughts and put on my sleep playlist. I'd have to stop pining over him like an idiot. He isn't going to like me like that, so it's better to give up right now to forgo future heartbreak. Pulling my eye mask on, I rested my body on my ever-loving warm bed.
