Just as I thought... he might be about as strong or stronger than I was right now, but I had a ton of skills that let me power up. I went through them, activating them sequentially.

"[Enhance Weapon]. [Imbue Weapon]. [Time Slow]. [3D Maneuverability]. [Dragon Power]. [Demon Eye]. [Dragon Wings]. [Manifest Extra Arms]. [Wrath]. [Monster]."

Instantly, I exploded in a burst of raw power. My sword was encased with spinning shrouds of [Fire], [Ice], [Light], [Dark], and [Clown] energy, as well as an aura of [Stunning], [Silencing], [Poison], [Acid], and [Cringe], in an absolutely garish clash of violently opposing colors.

Time slowed to a crawl as I leapt into the air, floating weightlessly as I moved freely in all three dimensions. Muscles bulged on all 17 of my arms, eight on each side and one sprouting from the top of my head because I ran out of spots to put them.

My eye was blazing with demonic energy, which began to feed off my [Cringe] status, empowering me and protecting me from any ill effects I would normally suffer. A pair of dragon wings sprouted from my back, looking cool as fuck but also kind of being more or less useless since I'd turned [3D Maneuvering] on.

[Wrath] and [Monster] both dramatically increased my power, at the cost of my sanity and morality, respectively. Thankfully, I didn't have to worry about that, because I had [Shame Invulnerability].

Powered up, I lunged for Juan, swinging my sword in a killing blow! He swung back, and our blades met, enhancements ricocheting wildly off each other and filling the room with dozens of chaotic bursts of color, like a light show where the technician was having a stroke. I blinked around the blinding lights to see Juan... undamaged?! He was grinning up at me, with 18 arms, two demon eyes, three dragon wings, and even more power than he had before. H-how?!

I leapt back, my heart racing. My stats had increased enough that he should have died in one hit!

"H-how are you doing all that?!" I demanded. "You didn't have any of those skills!"

He laughed triumphantly. "I told you, already! Anything you can do... I CAN DO BETTER!"

He zigzagged through the air, moving faster than a normal person could see. I tracked him with my [Periscope Vision], but... he was moving too fast! I spun and activated all of my magic skills.

"[Malamphosicet's Greater Illusion of 1000 Blades: Sword Art: Spell Sword: Magic Slash: "The Dusk Calls Me At Last, Onwards (Requiem) - Lvl 10]," I cast, summoning the spectral blade of some ancient jackass who was probably really good at swords, magic, or both.

I smiled as it began to manifest. This spell had the longest name, so it was probably my most powerful one. I watched as the spell took shape, but felt an unknowable dread fall tapdancing in the back of my skull. Juan had stopped zooming around, and was casting a spell as well!

"[Malamphosicet's Greater Illusion of 1001 Blades: Sword Art: Spell Sword: Magic Slash: "The Dusk Calls Me At Last, Towards (Requiem) - Lvl 11]," he cast.

W-WHAT?! I watched as an even cooler looking spectral blade appeared in thin air, shattering my spell into pieces and lunging towards me. I held up my arm to block, activating [Slashing Invulnerability], but the sword went right through my arm, causing a sharp shock of pain shooting through me. This magic, ghostly sword didn't do [Slashing] damage?! D-damn it!

That attack had actually hurt me! I felt pain! That was definitely not cash money! This sort of thing wasn't supposed to happen to me! I was the hero, damn it! I quickly checked my health.

I stared in horror at the HP loss for the 2.5 seconds it took my [Greater HP Regeneration] skill to restore it. I couldn't believe it... my life was actually on the line, here! I had to figure out some way to beat this guy!

I drew my board and began grinding along thin air as I maneuvered around Juan, my trucks sending up ethereal sparks as they slid along nothing. I couldn't lose to him! I was the [Hero], wasn't I? No Juan was supposed to be more powerful than me!

Juan, boardless and seething, could only turn and watch me as I skated around him. His eyes burned with focus, and he was doing an excellent job of hiding the intense jealousy I'm sure he felt at my boarding prowess.

"[Flame Ollie]!" I shouted, leaping and smashing down next to him. The wheels of my board slammed into the ground, sending up a roaring gout of searing flames directly for him.

"[Adaptive Resistance: Burning Invulnerability+1]," he activated, letting the flames of my spell lick over him like a harmless puppy. I glared at him, hard enough to level up my [Furrow Browsics] skill.

"How are you doing that?!" I demanded, boring a hole through him with my anger and my [Evil Eye: Laser Beam]. He laughed, before looking at my frustrated face, which was extremely intimidating and definitely not filling with tears. His expression changed, his features softening for a moment as he furrowed his own brows, tilting his head in confusion.

"Wait, you... do you actually not get it?"

I said nothing for a few seconds, silently shooting [Mental Rockets] at him, which he countered effortlessly with his own [Mental Rockets+1]. I dodged the explosion from the last of his rockets, then cleared my throat.

"N-no. I get it," I lied, "But I don't think Taro does. You should explain it, for his benefit."

Juan stared at me, blinking, before turning to Taro to confirm. The older bad guy still hadn't moved from his extremely cool pose. He didn't reply, but simply gave a resigned sigh, like a tired mother about to let her kid watch "Loud Animal Brothers" at maximum volume for the sixth time today.

"Alright," Juan said, taking that as a yes. "My power is called '[Plus One]'."

I nodded.

"It lets me copy almost everything about a single opponent, and then get a slightly stronger version of it. Stronger stats. Stronger versions of all of their skills. Stronger versions of their talents. Stronger versions of their spells. Stronger versions of their Artes. I can copy everything except their Vitals, their Level, or their equipment."

He held up his sword. "This thing can copy any melee weapon an enemy has, though."

My mind was reeling. "You... copy... um..." I looked over at Wanda, who was busy lounging against the wall and eating the brownies she'd made back in that one cooking chapter. She'd given Bonbon her clothes and was lounging casually in her underwear, while a healed Bonbon was sitting next to her. I gave them a feeble wave and turned back to Juan.

"Explain further."

"I copy all of your stats. And I copy all of your skills. If you got like, [Double Slash], I can do [Triple Slash]."

My mind reeled. What a broken cheat skill! If I were to try to shoot him with a fireball, he could deflect it with a bigger fireball! If I swung at him with a sword, he could deflect it by swinging with two swords! But... wait...

"Yeah?" I asked, flashing him a devilish grin. "Even if you CAN copy my skills, I'd like to see you handle THIS!"

I activated my [Space Trimmer] Sword Arte, slashing at him through 6th-dimensional space, in a way that no movement of his sword would be able to deflect. Even if he used the same Arte against me, it was completely intangible, until it was too late! It was a powerful move from which no defense or parrying could save you. Sure, he might decide to use the same Arte against me, but the difference was... I had [Absolute Invulnerability]! I crowed with triumph as my sword appeared behind him, shooting out from between dimensions!

"[Adaptive Resistance: Absolute Invulnerability+1]."

Huh?! I could only watch in horror as my blade shattered against his [Absolute Invulnerability+1], and his sword shattered against my own [Absolute Invulnerability]. He could copy more than just one skill at once?!

"You can copy more than just one skill at once?!" I demanded, manifesting two bows and using [Dual Wielding (Bows)] to fire [Homing Shots], [Exploding Shots], [Ricocheting Shots] and [Returning Shots] at him. I dove behind cover as he fired back, and we both shot continuously as we chatted.

"That ain't even the best part! Watch this:"

He flexed, holding his fists in front of him and hunching over like he was grabbing the straps of an invisible backpack. An aura of energy erupted around him, and the wind picked up as he shouted. His shout grew steadily louder, the ground rattling, as travel-sized bolts of lightning shot off of him and bits of rock came out of the ground, floating near him.

"Nnngh?!" I pondered, grunting in surprise, as his hair grew even longer.

"[PLUS ULTRA]!" He shouted, activating some other, unknown skill.

A single large sweatdrop rolled down the back of my neck. Things were looking pretty bad now. Juan had entered an even more powerful form, and I had no idea what that skill of his might do. Gulping away my fear, I took a wary step towards him.

"And... what does that skill do?" I asked cautiously. In response, he merely closed his eyes and chuckled, before opening them and answering my question with his words.

"The same thing," he explained, "Except more."

I reeled back, a crack of normal-sized lightning framing a dramatic representation of shock behind me. I-Impossible! I had to end this before he got even more powerful! I rushed him, swinging my katana for his exposed neck. He craned his head to the side, attempting to parry the attack with his jugular, but he was far too slow!

My sword struck true, then shattered to pieces, along with my hopes. I stared up at him in disbelief, and he sneered at me.

"[Absolute Invulnerability++]," he jeered. "You can't hurt me, Hiro."

I knew on an instinctual and logical level that he was correct. Absolute meant Absolute, so Absolute++ probably meant something even better. But, even so! I was the main character of an anime or anime-related medium. I couldn't let something as simple as logic or objective reality keep me from winning!

I activated my [Kill Anything in One Punch] skill, along with my [Win Almost Everything, but Not Everything] skill, clenching my fists. I had to pull out all the stops! I unleashed a 17-fist unstoppable punch flurry on him, every punch a full-powered killing punch!

He just stood there and took it, staring down at me with [Absolute Arrogance]. I rained punch after punch on his chest, absolutely destroying his relatively mundane armor, but doing nothing to mar his rock-hard abs or the rest of his body.

The wind whipped around us, as my ferocious assault blew holes in the far side of the dungeon wall, boring long tunnels into the surrounding countryside. The walls rumbled as debris began to fall around us, my flurry of blows threatening the structural integrity of the entire dungeon. With one final devastating blow, I slammed my fist into his sternum, to no visible effect.

He just chuckled to himself, not even bothering to counterattack.

"What did I just say?" he demanded.

My heart was pounding. None of that had worked at all?! Standing there, I realized: he was just like me! He was too powerful to destroy. Nothing I did could even scratch him! He would just copy anything I did.

Wait... anything I did? My eyes widened, as I stared at this loser. I couldn't believe I'd been afraid of him! He could copy all of my cool, unique abilities, but he couldn't match my spirit. He hadn't earned those powers like I had. He was just a pale imitation. And if all he could do was copy me...

"Alright," I admitted. "Looks like you're pretty good. You've got a lot of tricks up your sleeve, at least."

I grinned a smile at him, activating all of my magic skills. "But let's see you top THIS, faker!"

He frowned at me. "Faker? You're the fake [Hero], here."

"Heh," I hehed. "Could a fake [Hero]... DO... THIS?!"

I summoned all of my power at once, draining my entire Mana and SP gauges to empower my spell. Magic rushed through me, and I activated a couple Magic Artes at random, which thankfully also seemed to empower it. This was my last chance. If I didn't beat him now... I was out of ideas. But I didn't need any ideas. I'd already arrived at the solution.

I locked my eyes to his, taking on a crazed expression as my face took on a sketchy, chaotic art style. "TAKE THIS:" I shouted, summoning my magical energy to the center of my Chi Zones.

"[SELF-DESTRUCT LVL-10]!"

I felt a blast of power erupt from my stomach, tearing through my HP gauge as it obliterated the area around me. I watched as Juan, stunned, was engulfed in the explosion. I knew, then... that I had won. Wanda... Bonbon... don't let my sacrifice be in vain...

Sunlight filtered through the dusty air, sending beams of light dancing on the fallen hero's face. Hiro's final attack had erupted into a contained sphere thanks to his arbitrarily-activated [Spell Conversion: Distance] Magic Artes.

The dungeon's roof had been obliterated entirely, with Hiro's final spell chewing a huge chunk out of the center, and the ensuing shockwaves pulping what remained of the load-bearing walls. The hillside, as well, had been largely terraformed by the previous collateral damage of their fight. Through the vast percussive redecorating of Hiro and Juan, the Boss Room had been transformed into a Boss Patio.

From one of the least-damaged sections of the ex-room, Wanda and Bonbon cautiously ventured out from under a dragon statue. They'd taken refuge under it once things had started to get really crazy, and it'd luckily been spared from the worst of the damage. They startled as the beheld the body of their fallen comrade, clearly surprised at the outcome.

The Boss Patio was in ruins. A massive crater bit through the stone floor, and into the bedrock beneath it, the edges turned to slag, and cooled molten stone, which is technically just stone, but let's not get pedantic now, alright? At the bottom of this indentation, the corpse of Hiro Protagonist lay unmoving, smoke rising in thin ribbons from his scorched body.

Juan Pluswan stood over it, staring down at the body of his rival. He was undamaged, save for a bit of scorching on his clothing. Somehow, his [Absolute Invulnerability++] had protected him from the blast. He had a dumbfounded expression on his face, looking down at the corpse in mute shock before staring up, into the endless expanse of the blue sky.

Juan let out a long sigh and shook his head, in disbelief. He turned to address Taro, who was still holding his disffected pose and leaning against the bottom half of a giant dragon statue, which had been razed from the reverse-scale up by a [Kill Anything in One Punch] shockwave.

"Did he..." Juan began, his voice dry and cracking from the smoke. "Did he think that I HAD TO copy everything he did?"
