Disc 24 : That time I was reincarnated into another world and ended my first day
"Bronze Rank?" I echoed, confused. I thought I had to take a test first. I guess she must have realized that I was actually pretty damn strong and cool.
"That's right," she confirmed. "You defeated Geoffrey, who is a Bronze Rank Adventurer. That means you're at least on the same level as him, so we updated your rank."
I nodded. That made sense. Back in high school, if a lower-class student managed to get the top spot in testing, they'd usually get disappeared by the student in second place. This seemed like the same sort of thing.
"Wow! That was way easier than I thought it would be!" I said, out loud. I thought I would need to do a lot more killing to get up to Bronze, but I guess I saved myself a lot of time. I silently thanked Taro for his sacrifice. I wasn't quite sure how I felt about a system that explicitly rewarded sabotaging your peers, but I wasn't about to look a gift hearse in the mouth.
Besides, I had more important things to worry about! I walked over to the counter and mentally pressed the confirm button, waiting patiently while the receptionist used her A* search pathfinding to make it back to the desk.
"Did you need help with something else?" she asked.
I nodded. "I'd like to rent some rooms, please."

"Sure, how many rooms do you need?"
I paused to think about it. How many rooms did I need? I looked over at Wanda, blushing slightly. Could I ask her to share a room with me? Yes, I literally owned her and could tell her to do whatever I wanted. But, should I ask her to share a room with me?
I didn't even know her that well, and we hadn't even held hands yet. Was I moving too fast? If I offended her, I might make her sad or make her dislike me. I also didn't know she felt about me to begin with...
What to do? Ah! I gasped internally as I hit upon the answer. Of course! I could solve this the same way I solved most of my problems! By avoiding responsibility entirely!
"Wanda," I smiled, "Why don't you decide how many rooms we need?"
The doggirl looked at me for a moment, brow furrowed slightly as she thought about it. I held my breath. Would she want separate rooms, or would she want to share one? If she wanted to share a room, it might mean she was totally into me, but it might also mean she was just trying to save money.
Wanda smiled at the receptionist, wagging her tail, and held up a single finger. My heart stopped.
"We'll take all the rooms on one floor, wan!"
* * * *
I sat on my bed, with my skateboard and katana in the designated skateboard, sword, and umbrella rack by the door. The umbrella rack had been the only one there by default, so I'd had to use my [Woodworking Basics] to disassemble one of the end tables to make a proper rack for my sword and board.
"What does that mean?" I asked myself (about Wanda getting a full floor of rooms, not about the sword rack thing).
Did that mean she really disliked me? Did she just need a lot of space to run around?
I could guess all I wanted, but when it came down to it, there was only one way for me to find out what Wanda was actually thinking, and that was to just start an open, thoughtful conversation with an omniscient being who could read Wanda's thoughts and tell me. I called up Kamiko on my CODEC.
"Moshi Moshi," I said
"Welcome, Moon-and-Star," Kamiko replied happily. "I have prepared a place for you."
"Oh, thank you gozaimasu. I already found somewhere to stay the night, though. That's kind of what I wanted to talk about."
There was a long silence before Kamiko said "Oh?"

"Yeah," I continued, "Wanda (that's my slave) and I are renting a room at the Adventurer's Guild."
There was another long pause.
"Are you doing this on purpose?" Kamiko asked, her voice cold. "Are you getting some kind of sick satisfaction out of this?"
I looked at the back of my neck, confused. "N-no? Maybe subconsciously? Anyways, I wasn't sure whether to get one room or two, so I left it up to Wanda, but she bought a whole floor worth of rooms!"
"Huh," Kamiko said, her voice much less cold, likely because she had put on a vocal sweater or something. "How odd."
"Yeah, that's what I was saying! Anyhow, can you read her mind and tell me why she did that?"
Kamiko sighed. "It's an invasion of privacy to do that, Hiro-kun. Besides, I can't read minds, so it's a moo point anyways."
I pratfell onto my bed, floored (bedded) by what Kamiko had said.
"Huuuhh???" I noised, "You can't read minds? I thought that you had omnismell or whatever."
"It's omniscience, Hiro-chan," she corrected. "And just because I have infinite knowledge doesn't mean I know everything."
"Okay, I get it," I lied, "But can you explain it for all the readers?"
Kamiko cleared her throat cutely, happy to launch into a lecture.
"Okay, so, you know how there are multiple infinities, and some of them are bigger than others, right?"
I scratched the back of my head. "Let's say that I do."
"Right, so it's basically like that. I know an infinite amount of knowledge, but the thoughts inside of people aren't part of that knowledge."
I furrowed my brow. "Is there even really an infinity of knowledge?"
"Probably!" Kamiko chirped, "but I lost count at around 50,000."
"Sasuga Kamiko," I chuckled. (TL note: Sasuga ______ means "That's so ________")
"Hmph!" she tsundered, "If you're going to be a bully, then see if I ever do anything nice for you again! Geez!"
"Oh, that reminds me, I had another favor to ask you."
"Of course, Hiro-san! Anything for you! What do you need?"
I flopped back onto the bed, opening my [Brain Cell Phone] to bring up the selfie I took earlier. I looked past my double-peace sign and duck face at the error message that I had captured in the photo. It was the same one that I had seen earlier.

Artes...
"Kamiko, what are Artes?"
"Artes?" she asked in confusion. "They're kind of like special moves. You unlock them by performing feats or by purchasing them in the [Artes Catalogue]. They're pretty powerful!"
I scratched the side of my face with one finger.
"Special moves, huh?" I asked.
"No," Kamiko corrected, "Special moves. You need to work on your accent if you want to fit in, you know?"
I nodded to myself, lost in thought.
"Now then, have you something more to say?" Kamiko asked.
"Nah, maybe later. Bye!"
"Wait, before you go, if you're buying Artes, make sure not t-"
I hung up the CODEC and stared at the ceiling. [Artes Catalogue], huh? I learned it instantly using my [Learn Skill Instantly] Skill.
Might as well check it out!
"[Artes Catalogue]," I said, then activated the skill. All at once, a dialogue screen appeared in front of me, with a few search bars. One read 'Search by name', one read 'search by category', and a third said 'search by type'.
I didn't know what any of those meant! I sighed to myself, wishing that one of my skills might be helpful here, before remembering that one of them was!
I activated [Mental Dictionary], and found out that a category meant a grouping of several related things together, or a criteria by which several things could be grouped. I sighed to myself, because I didn't know what 'criteria' meant either. This was getting me nowhere!
I activated [Appraisal (but secretly infinite knowledge)] instead. Using this, I could appraise the HUD itself! Plus, this could probably tell me what all the Artes do as well! I decided to test it out by appraising the words 'search by type'.
[Search by Type: Returns a list of Artes from the list of all available Artes which possess a specific elemental or activation Type]
Hmm.. that made sense. I appraised "search by category" next.
[Search by Category: Returns a list of all Artes from the list of all available Artes which belong to a specific category or school of Artes]
Huh... that one was a little less clear, but I think I got the gist of it. But, what kind of Artes were even available?
Kamiko was calling me again, but I ignored the call for now. Out of curiosity, I appraised the words 'all available Artes'

Huh? Loading? I briefly wondered what that meant, before the world exploded in between my eyes.

The Alien's Retaliation
The novel takes place in an alternate universe that is brimming with life. There are a lot of planets were life has greatly developed, as many civilizations were born. Fearsome aliens and strange creatures inhabit the space, and at the same time wars and conflicts are not such a rare sight. On a remote planet, ignorant of everything, Xeno is living a hard and monotonous life, waiting for time to make its course. However once again the mysteries of the universe will present before his eyes, changing his life completely. Follow Xeno on a long journey through the vast space, as he will seek the strength and knowledge necessary to uncover the secrets of his new gained origins. The narration has been changed to third person from chapter 24. However there will still be POV changes every so often. Dauntless: Origins
Snow white hair, blue eyes, pale. Devil, monster, mutt, failure. This story follows one Tyr Faeron, crown prince, heir primus and mass murderer. A wrathful, angry, and lost young man that has made it his goal to hunt down the men that killed his mother - and he is on the cusp of finishing the promise he'd made before her cairn stones so many years ago. On the surface he is duplicitous, whimsical, and base of cunning - but within the depths beyond the many masks he wears, something is waiting. Waiting for an end, the end he'd come to long for, whether it be to himself or any possible threats in his vicinity. After that long labor of vengeance is completed... Nobody knows, not even him - an arrogant and otherwise solitary individual with nothing in the way of friends - only the brothers of the blackguard who follow him through life as he pursues this mission. He was born a prince, but he'd be called a disappointment - failing to manifest the great power that he was born to before being summarily discarded by his father, a 250 year old 'primus'. That word again... Men who can shatter mountains and level cities, that's what he was supposed to be. Some call them demi-gods, all Tyr sees is a poor excuse for a parent. Time had made him bitter, cruel, and arguably psychotic - seeing only enemies wherever he looks. They'd come for him, too, one day - to wipe the slate clean and make room for another - and it's his conviction to ensure that he dies while taking as many of those rats with him. This is a story about finding acceptance, growth, and understanding - from the point of view of a cold and brutal individual who wears many masks. Of someone who was born to be the greatest emperor the eastern continent has ever seen - but he failed in that. Strong, yes, but only in the context of a man - Tyr's magic is weak. His convictions are weak. He has been made a beast of instinct by loss and a constant confronting of his own impotency in the face of his father. A mythos that stretches across planes, of magic, a pantheon of cruel gods. Of someone who's dedicated his entire mind to the art of killing a man, and none to living a normal childhood or coming to understand friendship, empathy, or compassion. The first five years of his life a mystery, a hole none have ever been willing to fill, leaving him warped and twisted. His formative years gone and what must've been most of his humanity along with it. Now 17, he is on the cusp of leaving the city he'd never been permitted to leave for what might be the first time in his life. Always searching, though he won't know what for, for some time. An episodic that follows experience and symbolism rather than a never ending series of battles - where the conflict lay in constantly searching for wholeness in lieu of great villains or heroes. This is where it all started, the origin, the tale told a million times - and yet it hadn't been, 'reality' is tricky like that. The greatest lie ever told by the tongue that speaks is that any of this was real at all.
