《Their Human》Chapter thirty nine: the arrow

My stomach plummeted to the ground when Sofia excitedly announced that the remaining five contestants were about to fight to the death. My eyes darted between the twins and Alexander and my brows furrowed in worry. This was not going to end well at all.
"If the contestants wish, they may surrender in the middle of the match, meaning an automatic disqualification. The last one standing wins the crown."
At that moment, the vampire leader, Valedria placed a black box on an empty space on a table and opened it. Gently, as if he were holding a fragile talisman, he pulled out a beautiful black crown. I stared at it in awe. I have never seen one such as that, it was absolutely stunning. My heart thumped loudly in my chest when he reached back into the box and pulled an identical one.
"For the new queen, should there be one." Valedria said, placing it carefully next to the other. I looked at the field, watching Alexander staring at the crowns with a large grin spread out on his face. The twins were not even looking at it, they were whispering discreetly, probably planning something.
I bit my lip in anticipation. I really hope that they don't get too hurt out there.
"Players, choose your weapons!"
The five men all split in different directions, staring at weapons and picking up a few just to test them out. Alexander grabbed a silver dagger, looking at Silas with a small smirk. Silas grabbed a sword, scoffing at Alexander and walking away from him.
Sei picked up a large metal shield, making Kaiser sigh. "Please don't tell me he's planning on defending the whole time."
"I think him and Silas are up to something." I whispered, pointing at Silas who tossed the sword down and picked up a scythe. He ran his finger over the blade and tossed it back, looking for something else. "He's looking for something really sharp."
Before Silas could even pick up another weapon, his mother shouted, "FIGHT!"
Silas groaned in annoyance and grabbed a double edged sword, swiping it at the shifter that had just started charging to him. The shifter had no weapon, he was using his fists.

"Is he crazy? Why is he using his fists?" I asked, pointing at the shifter. The crowd around us started cheering loudly, some creatures placing bets on who would win.
The shifter growled loudly, spreading his arms out dramatically. His body started shaking, sounds of his bones snapping loud enough to hear through the noise of the others. I grimaced as brown fur sprout out of him, his height increasing and his already big muscles expanding in size. His nose turned into a snout and sharp claws sprung out where his nails used to be.
He turned into werewolf that was somehow standing on it's two back legs only.
"Lycan, a second breed of werewolves." Kaiser briefly explained.
With growl, it charged to Silas with it's claws pointed to it. Silas rolled out of the way and Sei jumped in, making it hit it's body on the large metal shield. It fell and Silas shoved the sword through it's heart, making the crowd roar.
I stared at him in shock as the lycan fell limp on the grass, it's green colour getting coated in crimson blood. Silas mercilessly pulled the sword out and kicked the corpse to the side, his eyes hungrily staring at his new target.
I followed his gaze, gulping audibly when I saw Alexander. He twisted the dagger effortlessly around his fingers and his free hand reached to his shirt where he slowly rolled the sleeves back. Sei looked around for the fae, his eyes squinting when they landed on it at the corner of the field. It was standing with a prideful smile, holding a large bow and an arrow that was ready to be fired.
"I've been waiting to do this for so long!" Silas shouted to Alexander, his chest heavily heaving up and down. "To make you feel the pain you made my woman feel! I'm going to carve her name on your chest!"
The men in the crowd cheered and whistled at his comment and the women swooned as if he was speaking about them. I could not blush or swoon over this, not when it was another one of mine that was being threatened.
I felt like I had to pick a side and I hated it.

"Is that a good idea, brother? Do you really think she would forgive you if you killed me?" Alexander chuckled evilly. I heard the crowd around me quieten down, meaning that they were interested in the conversation they were having.
"No no no..." I whispered, slightly shaking my head. "Not here, not now."
"In case she never told you, I'm also in this little harem of yours. She's in love with me too!" Alexander announced, making everyone else gasp and start whispering things to each other. I closed my eyes, feeling my tears threatening to escape if I opened them just a little bit. I cannot bear to listen to this. Alexander and Silas are so selfish, selfish for putting my life in danger just to prove points to one another.
"We need to get out of here for a bit." Kaiser whispered against my ear, patting my shoulder.
I nodded and opened my eyes, meeting the hurt and angry eyes that belonged to Sei. He had no idea about what Sapphire had told me and him finding out like this was the worst possible way.
Sei completely ignored the fae, turning to face Alexander with a look of hatred. Alexander grinned at him, running a hand through his hair, "Oh, is my little step brother upset that he has to share his pretty little girl with me? Just when you thought you won, turns out you need to split your sexy prize with me. She tasted amazing by the way. I can't wait for more."
"I'll kill you!" Sei screamed, dropping his shield and charging to Alexander. Before I could even begin to react, Sei froze on the spot, his eyes widening in shock. A scream left my lips when I looked down at his chest, seeing a large arrow that pierced right through his body.
His lips parted as he fell on his knees, his body falling limp on the ground. Silas ran to Sei with a pained scream, one that drove the whole crowd silent. I felt myself get physically sick, staring at the blood that seeped out of his chest and back.
Alexander looked at the fae that had shot the arrow at Sei, his eyes turning red and his fangs shooting out. "You bastard! Only I get to hurt him!" He screamed, speeding to the smiling fae.
I choked back a sob and quickly stood up, running to the battlefield. It didn't matter to me that they would find out that I was the woman that they were arguing about. It didn't matter that my life was in danger anymore. Sei was shot down and he could be dead. That was what scared me more than anything.
A fairy dressed in blue tried to stop me but I slapped it out of my way, letting my emotions completely take over. Sei was all that matters. I needed him to be okay. I needed him to be alive.
I jumped over a stack of weapons and fell on my knees next to Sei, shaking his body to try to get him to wake up. His eyes were open but he didn't look awake anymore. It was like they were lifeless, losing all of the sparkle they always had. "Sei, please wake up! Please I'm begging you!" I screamed, shaking his body. Silas was on his knees next to me, looking at his brother with a look I could not understand.
I looked at Silas, tears rolling down my cheeks, "Please wake him up... Please, do anything. I'll do anything." I begged Silas.
Silas growled and stood up, grabbing my arm roughly. I looked at him in shock as he leaned in closer and hissed at me, "What are you doing here?! Do you have any idea what you've just done by coming here?"
"But Sei is..."
"A powerful hybrid! A stupid arrow can't kill him. He's just trying to regain consciousness because he hit his head when he fell. He never died!" Silas snarled at me.
I didn't understand, why was he upset at me?
I looked behind me, my heart sinking when I met the eyes of hundreds of creatures staring at me with looks that were anything but good.
I did it, I officially signed my death warrant.
