《(Discontinued) Outer Banks | JJ x reader》Part 15

We jumped over the fence to get away from Ward and got in Kie's car, the same places we were earlier.
"Can someone fill me in on what the fuck just happened!" JJ yelled. Pope just groaned loudly. "Wh-what were they fighting over?" JJ asked, still shocked.
"Uh... it was a gun, the one that Rafe used. He must have kept it." Pope replied. "Of course! Of course! The murder weapon!" JJ shouted. Kie was calling someone.
"Who are you calling?" I asked her, somewhat with an attitude I might add, because she basically botched our mission to get evidence that would've gotten John B free easily.
"The cops?" JJ questioned. "Who am I supposed to call!" Kie replied. We all yelled for a second before Kie yelled, "Shut up!", because someone picked up on the phone.
Kie informed the person that someone got shot. "We gotta go. We're sitting ducks right now." I told Kie. "We can't stay here." Pope added in an easier tone.
"What do you want me to do?" Kie asked. I wasn't mad at Kie for being in a mood, obviously this was a stressful situation, we're just kids, it's understandable. But it wasn't okay to yell for no reason in a situation that didn't need it.
"Just drive." Pope told her.
~~~
We decided it was best to talk to the police even though we knew they probably weren't gonna believe us.
They tried to argue with Shoupe but I knew it was useless. Instead, I was trying to figure out how to get evidence.
We followed Shoupe out of the building as he told the rest of the police to leave.
No, I didn't think he was gonna listen but someone just fucking died.
"Why cant you just do your job for like 20 minutes!" I yelled at Shoupe from behind the rest of the Pogues.
Shoupe stopped for a second then turned around. He walked all the way up to me without saying a word.
"I know you're upset. And I know you think your brother is innocent-" I cut Shoupe off. "He is!"
"The only actual witnesses who are above the ground say the exact opposite, alright?" Shoupe told me. "And both of them have a hell of a lot more credibility than any of you right now." He added, looking at the rest of the Pogues.
"And you better watch it because you are one step away from being sent off." Shoupe looked me in the eye again before he walked off. He could've meant jail or DCS.
"Go home." He told us while getting in his car.
Kie was still complaining while I just started to walk away. Then they started arguing behind me about who's fault it was about the camera. There was a valid reason why it could be all of ours.
"Hey! Shut up!" I yelled at them. Why do they never stop arguing.
"We can still go get the gun." I said, looking at the drains. It was about the only idea I could come up with at this point.
~~~
We thought through where the gun would be until sunrise.
"This is the north drain. It should've gotten washed into the gully. So, if it got flushed out from this drain, it would've been pushed out to, like," JJ kinda pointed to trash and water from the sewer. "Somewhere in this trash." Pope finished for him. JJ nodded.
Kie said something about plastic and JJ argued back with her but I kinda learned to block out their arguing by now.
"You want us to leave you two alone? Or what's goin on?" JJ asked Pope and Kie, making me listen again. Pope just threw a trash bag at him and told him to help.
So we cleaned up all the trash. No gun.
"If it's not in the trash, then it's gotta be in the storm drain." Pope said. "It's... it's in the drain." JJ agreed. He kinda looked at me while he said it cause he knew my brain.
"Damnit." Pope said.
JJ brought something to open the drain. "So how are we gonna do this? Like rock, paper, scissors? Alphabetically?" Kie asked almost sarcastically. I smiled which actually shocked me. I haven't smiled very much since John B left.
"Or like, the oldest goes?" Kie continued.
JJ started talking about some drain worm. "So, yeah, hard pass for me." He finished. "Yeah, that's a no from me too." Pope added.
They both looked at me and Kie. "No, yeah, we get it. You guys are scared." I said. Both of the boys protested while Kie said, "It's kind of cute." "You should've just led with that." I added while me and Kie were both on the verge of laughing.
"You don't have to be scared, I'll do it." I told them. "Okay, just, you know..." Pope said as he looked into the drain. I knew what Pope meant.
"Be careful." JJ told me.
"I'll be so careful." I joked, remembering the time we laughed about John B and Sarah saying something like that.

"You want me to go with you?" Kie offered. "Nah, it's my brother we're saving, right?" I said.
I got down on my hands and knees and started going into the sewer.
"Just, uh, holler if you need anything." JJ yelled at me. "And you'll what? Holler back?" I wondered outloud, still crawling. I heard Kie scold JJ, saying, "Very helpful."
Oh it was so gross down there. Never thought I would be in this position. But hey, for JB I'd do anything.
Well I was kind of reaching my limits right now.
After going through a tunnel, there was a dip hole sort of thing full of water that I, luckily, had to go into. I climbed up the ladder a little bit though so I wasn't in the water as much.
"Oh this is disgusting." I said to myself as I was trying to feel through the water.
"JB you owe me so much." I added.
My foot felt something on the ground that could be a gun. "Guys, I think I found something!" I yelled. "Ugh. Gross." I said as I tried to grab it with my foot because I really did not want to go down in there.
it was, in fact, not a gun.
It was definitely something dead though. Awesome.
"Guys there's something dead down here!" I yelled. "Like a person?!" Pope yelled back. I couldn't keep myself from yelling. It was so gross. I might be sick.
"Don't touch it you'll get the worms!" JJ yelled at me, only making it worse. "Did you find the gun? Is it Gavin?" Pope added. "Don't touch it!" Kie yelled. I couldn't answer. I was trying not to throw up or have a panic attack.
Then water started rushing. Oh shit. "Guys? Guys the water!" I shouted. That's not normal. "(Y/N), get out of there now!" JJ yelled at me.
The water was coming way too fast. "I don't have time!" I yelled back. "Shit! Oh no!"
I always talk about wanting to die. And sometimes I do. But if I want to, I want to do it on my own accord. I don't want to die right now, just before I can see John B again.
I couldn't hear anything else besides the water. It was pushing me to the side as I climbed up the ladder.
There was a manhole at the top but I couldn't push it from inside. "Please!" I yelled. Maybe someone would hear it.
I heard the Pogues yell. "Guys! Over here!" I exclaimed. They came over the manhole.
"Pull it!" Kie yelled at them, already trying herself. All three of them started pulling on the manhole. The motherfucker was stuck like glue.
The water was at my neck as I was still yelling. It's terrifying when your life is in the hands of other people.
I don't know why I was yelling specifically for JJ. Yes I love the other two and trust them with my whole heart but with JJ it's just different.
Then something hit my leg. I knew it was the gun. I don't know how but you always know the feel of a gun for some reason. I grabbed it and stuck it in the back of my pants, but just for the water to come over my head.
I swallowed some water and my vision went blurry. Then a set of arms reached down and grabbed me out.
JJ had pulled me up, and he was making sure I was out of the manhole first before he got up, somehow knowing I didn't want anyone to touch me right now.
I sat on my hands and knees, coughing up the water. Kie put a hand on my back after I finished. "You good?" She asked me. "Never better." I replied, shaking my head.
I sat back on my legs and took the gun out, throwing it to the ground in front of me.
The boys just started laughing. "Holy shit." JJ said, grabbing it with a bandana. "Yes, yes, yes." Pope repeated. He obviously wanted to hug me but I had the look in my eye saying don't.
"We're gonna get this son of a bitch!" Kie said excitedly.
JJ held out a hand, helping me up when I grabbed it.
"You did it." Kie repeated. "Come on," JJ laughed, pulled all three of us into a hug. "Let's get this to Shoupe." He said, pulling away a second after.
If I'm honest, I don't remember where I went wrong with JJ. Obviously I hooked up with someone else, but I don't remember who. He never told me. And honestly I was loosing my shit because of it.
