《(Discontinued) Outer Banks | JJ x reader》Part 12

I only fell asleep for a good couple of hours before the sun woke me back up.
I groaned before standing up. Dumbass sun.
When I walked out of my room, JJ was just standing there, looking at John B's room. I stood beside him.
"It's still hard to believe sometimes, you know?" JJ said. "Yeah. It really is." I agreed, though already walking away from the room. I cant look at it for a while or the emotions surface again.
We had school today, which sucked. I hated school. Always have, alway will.
But we still had about an hour before we had to be there. Kie or Pope would pick us up in their parents car so we didn't have to worry. They alway did.
JJ went to get ready in the bathroom while I got a beer out of the fridge. Like I said, I'm always either drunk or high. Drunk today I guess.
And no, I don't care that I was going to school drunk. I've been doing it since before John B died.
I was laying down on the pull out couch when JJ came out.
"Are you really blacked-out before school even starts?" JJ asked jokingly. I just held up a middle finger, my eyes still closed.
He walked by me, hitting my shoulder. "You gotta get ready." There was almost a P pronunciation like he was going to say Princess, what he used to call me, but he didn't. He just walked out the door.
I sat up. He just sat outside on the porch, probably letting me get ready in peace, though it's unnecessary.
I finished getting ready just as Kie and Pope drove up.
They were in Kie's parents car, Kie driving.
They honked, letting us know they were here. JJ and I both got in the car and we drove to the school.

"Hey, chill out." Kie told me as she realized I had brought the drink to school and we got out of the car.
"If I black out, just don't remind me." I said. I knew she was just being a good friend but I really could care less.
"That's not funny." Kie replied. I was gonna respond but then I realized everyone was looking at us.
I knew it was going to happen. Anyone dies in this town and the people who are closest to that person get judged or finally noticed. It's just the way of life here.
I heard a lot of things. People saying we wouldn't show up, people saying they thought we went to jail, others saying that they wouldn't be surprised if we had.
There was a memorial thing on a rock for John B. We all stared at it. "I feel like people are staring at us." Kie said, looking around.
"Oh yeah." JJ replied. "Yep." I added, dumping the rest of my drink on the memorial. Fuck their small ass memorial.
They didn't even care about John B. Half of the people here didn't even know him.
I threw the bottle to the side and started to walk into the school before Kie wrapped her arm in mine. "Nope. We gotta stick together." She said as we all walked to the school, together now.
We had made it halfway through the day to history. This was the only class we all had together.
My phone vibrated halfway through, followed by Kie's, JJ's, and Pope's.
"Who's phone was that?" Our teacher asked. No one said anything. "You will be tested." He warned.
"Now, to recap..." He kept talking but I ignored it like usual. I looked at my phone. It just said a text from an unknown number.

I looked up and the rest of the Pogues were also looking at their phones. "Did you get it?" Kie whispered to Pope. "Yeah." Pope replied. JJ also nodded, even though she didn't ask him but we understood.
I quietly moved in between their chairs. They were kinda in a triangle so I could sit in between them.
We all opened the text, seeing a picture of John B and Sarah, both smiling, looking happier than even. No way. No fucking way. They were dead.
We all just sat in shock for a second. Then I just ran out the door. I really could care less if I got in trouble.
I heard JJ run out after me, and Pope and Kie making up excuses to also come before running out.
"Where are you going?" Kie asked me, still running after me. "Courtyard." I replied.
JJ fell, causing a janitor to see us, though Pope just helped JJ up and we went out the school.
"Is that even possible? I mean, Shoupe said that they didn't make it. He said that." Kie said as we went out into the courtyard.
"Okay, but I- I think we're overreacting right now, cause we can't rule out the possibility that this could all be some kind of weird, cruel hoax." Pope told us all.
"I'm just gonna ask." Kie replied as she sat on a bench. Pope did as well. JJ and I just stood.
"What if it's actually him though?" JJ asked. "I don't know. Okay? I don't know." Pope replied. We were all kind of freaking out.
'WTF is this you???' Kie texted.
"He's typing." Kie said, though we could all see it.
'Is (Y/N) there?' Was all they texted.
I didn't know if I wanted to say I'm here but I did. 'yeah.' Was all I said.
'Did you pimp my short board?' The unknown number asked. I don't know why, but that's when I knew it was him.
It was like everything changed again. He was back. He was alive. He wasn't dead.
"He's alive." I said out loud, almost as if I needed to convince myself. I didn't even realize I was smiling like a maniac.
"He's alive." Pope agreed. I looked up from my phone, and they were all smiling just as big as me.
JJ had tears in his eyes. He hugged me. I didn't expect it, but I was glad he did. He held me so tight but it was so comforting.
I was tearing up just because of how happy he was. He let go, sadly, but hugged Pope and then Kie.
"Yeah!" He yelled happily before sitting down, laughing slightly to himself.
'Laying super low in Nassau.' Kie read out loud. "How the hell did they get to the Bahamas?" She questioned.
"You cant kill a Pogue, dude." JJ laughed. "Especially John B." I added.
We were all crying happy tears at this point.
'Can you clear my name? Wanna come home.' John B texted. "Hell yeah, we'll clear your name, boy." JJ said out loud as he texted.
"Be in touch. P4L." Kie read John B's last message.
"P4L, man. That's what I'm talking about!" JJ yelled. He jumped on the table. "P4L baby! Whooo!" He yelled even louder. We all just laughed before hugging.
