《Far Too Little (Age Regression)》50. Amusement n Thrillz

Wren giggled as we walked through the streets. Me and David held each of his hands and would lift him up whenever he'd jump, giving him moon like gravity.

Breakfast was divine, even if David was not a fan of the hotel toasters, I loved it all the same.

We decided afterwards to hit the town, wander around and look for things to do. So following a quick change and the acquiring of some shoes for wren, we headed out.

We passed a whole number of cute cafes and souvenir shops, and I made little mental notes that we should get little gifts for Sarah and Alex, maybe Jam too.

When Wren suddenly stopped in his tracks and started looking around.

"Where music coming from?"

He huffed, all confused.

We stopped as well and listened. I hadn't really been tuned into the background noise, but once wren pointed it out I found myself curious.

"I dunno baby bear, we should check it out"

We all concurred, and headed in the direction we thought it was coming from.

Until David called and pointed off the road, into what looked an empty lot that had been decked out in lights.

"Found our source"

It was like a pop up amusement Park. Wrens jaw hung open as he tried to figure it out. I pointed him out to David and he sniggered. Then looked back to me

"So we going in?"

I answered with a little flourish.

"It's our holidays, let's be spontaneous"

"Fine by me, you wanna go have a look bubba?"

"Lotta people?"

Wren asked, whimpering a bit. I answered, squeezing his hand in support.

"Not too many baby bear, plus me and Papa are right here. Right here baby"

Wren looked up at us then back to the park.

"Oki, wanna have a look"

He was a little apprehensive but wren actually choosing to go into a crowded area was quite the rarity. I smiled to David and he was smiling right back.

"Alright come on, lets keep it moving"

We walked on, up to a large archway when wren stopped again, digging his heels into the ground and whimpering. I crouched down to his level and spoke quietly to him.

"Are you sure you wanna go in Wren? It's ok if it's too much"

"No, I- I wanna, is jus hard... lotta people"

"Hmm that does sound hard"

Wren nodded, and before I could suggest something he reached out a hand for me

"Uppies, peas daddy"

"Oh always baby-"

I happily obliged, opening my arms letting wren stagger forward and wrap him arms around my neck. I stood with him in tow and David asked again.

"Are we completely ready now?"

Wren turned to look at him and smiled, nodding contently, chewing a little on my t-shirt collar. Even if he was clinging to me the whole time, stepping outside of his comfort zone was big. I gave him a little squeeze and popped his paci in his mouth.

"Perfect"

We walked in through the archway and took a good look at out surroundings.

It wasn't a massively fancy set up, a good few game stalls, food trucks, benches, and rides for all ages. I immediately clocked a few things wren might like.

But from my arms though, wren had spotted something far more interesting.

"Pandana!"

Wren babbled from behind his paci, then giggled at how he sounded. He was pointing to a game stall.

A ring toss stall that held a sign guaranteeing 'one prize for every ring landed!'. Large stuffed animals covered the walls, some nearly the size of wren. One of the various animals, being a panda.

We walked over, Wren keeping direct eyecontact with a massive panda the entire time.

The guy manning the stall, stood up straighter and clapped his hands, rubbing them together.

"Up for a game? Every peg is a win!"

He motioned towards the multicoloured pegs, red, blue, yellow green. I bounced wren a little, to get his attention.

"Are we gonna try win a panda baby bear?"

Wren looked to me and then pointed back at the panda, face full of excitement.

"Oh I think we're playing"

David chuckled at wrens out of character enfactuation. He payed the man and we were handed 4 rings to toss.

I had a go, completely missing and laughing at myself, to keep cool.

David threw one, he got a bit closer but still missed. He wasn't very bothered, instead switching to encouraging wren.

"Go on bubba give it go"

Wren held onto one of the rings, and with both hands pulled back and swung it. It missed as well and wren whimpered.

"One more baby bear, come on!"

I gave Wren the final ring. He spun it in his hands for a second, taking a deep breath, and truly tossing it.

It bounced off a few pegs, before hooking and spinning around a blue one, settling at its base. Wren had landed it!

"Hey!"

The man cheered and clapped for wren.

I bounced wren with little woops, he smiled widely.

"I dids it!"

David cheered as well, ruffling up wrens hair.

"You sure did bubba"

The stall man stepped closer to us and wren shrunk back, but only a little.

"So what's your creature of choice kid?"

He gestured to the many different animals, but we knew which one he'd be picking.

"P-panda"

Wren tentatively requested and the man nodded.

He reached under the counter, before handing to Wren a miniscule version of the large panda. I wanted to laugh, as the attendant smirked, very pleased with himself and the ridiculously small bait and switch panda.

"Only the red pegs get the big ones"

David's face fell hilariously, obviously frustrated by the catch and he was about to speak when he was interupted by wrens reaction.

He was simply overjoyed and began shaking the toy very excitedly. He then shoved it in David's face, then my own.

"Pandana!"

Wren giggled. I laughed too, unsure if he was unintentionally mispronouncing the word or just saying whatever sounded funny.

"It's lovely.. little panda, isnt it bubba"

David said, shielding annoyance at the gag panda.

"Ah come on David"

I gave him a little push and he chuckled. We thanked the panda man and went on our way.

"So where to next?"

David asked and I hummed.

"Not sure, we could try a ride. Bubba what are you're thoughts?"

Wren was still smiling to himself over his little panda friend. He looked up at us, then around. He frowned

"Dun know. Can' see 'lot"

Wren started twisting and turning in my arms, trying to crawl up me to see better. David stopped him.

"Hang on bubba, lemme help. I think I know a better vantage point"

Wren tilted his head at David, till he was plucked from my arms, giggling as he was lifted high up into the air, then sat back down on my shoulders.

Wren marveled at his new found height and view point of the world around him. Every single time he gets on top of me of or David its like he's completely different. Wren just lives for thrillz.

He still held the small panda though, which made him a bit unstable, I made a gentle objection.

"Baby bear, how about we put the panda in your bag? Don't you think they wanna meet topsy?"

Topsy was currently tucked away in wrens little bag slung over David's shoulder, but wren apparently didn't want the two to meet just yet.

"No thank you, pansa wants to stay out wih me!"

He gave David a toothy smile and we, the softies we are, allowed wren to hold onto the panda.

"Just make sure you're holding on properly bubba"

Wren wrapped his hands around my forehead, tangling his fingers in my hair. I prayed to every known force that he wouldn't start up a game of horsie, I'd seen David under the horse spell. I didn't want to succumb in the middle of amusement Park.

Thankfully wren seemed satisfied with just looking around in awe. We ambled among the small crowds of people.

At one point, wren began tapping on my head to get my attention, even though he had it undivided.

"Dats a big tea party"

Wren pointed to the spinning teacups ride that people were yelling from.

"It's the teacups baby, you sit in them and they spin around. It's quite fun"

Wren oohed at the ride and David asked.

"You want to try it out bubba? I think you'd like it, it's just like the merry go round at the playground"

Wren started tapping on my head excitedly again.

"Likes dem, can we do the teacups? Peasies?"

He begged as if we could ever say no to him.

"Thats a wonderful idea bubba, and we can all sit in it together by the looks of things"

David observed as we made our way around the front of the ride. It was already going, so we waited paitently in the short line. We occupied ourselves watching the kids screaming.

"Lot of yellin, people not like it?"

Wren started to worry and we halted it quick.

"Oh no baby bear, don't you see everyone smiling. I'm sure it's just one person being very dramatic"

David added on something funny to distract wren from any worries.

"Thats gonna end up being daddy, I assure you wren"

Wren giggled, and I gave David a gentle loving shin kick, which he dodged skillfully.

"I'm reporting you for spousal abuse"

"Oh just you try, I'm invincible"

I retorted and David scoffed.

We continued our back and forth until wren started swinging his legs.

"Teacups! We go we go!"

Once again Wren's height proved to give him a confidence boost as he was unbothered raising his voice in the open.

The ride had come to a stop and as people poured off it, so did we pour on. David payed the woman running the ride and we quickly ran for the pink teacup, on wrens request, narrowly beating out 2 little girls.

"Suckers"

I muttered to myself, smirking as we sat down and David frowned.

"Ricky don't insult children, as much as they were suckers, we've got to set an example."

Wren giggled, scooching into my lap.

"Well I don't think we could change wren in anyway cause he's already the most perfect little boy, in the whole entire galaxy, and he's smart, so he's gonna stay perfect forever"

Wren gasped.

"Fuhever?"

"Absolutely baby bear"

Wren pondered for a moment.

"If if I called chus suckers?"

David laughed.

"Don't you get any ideas princess, but no matter what you do, you'll always be perfect in our eyes"

"Oh David you just melt my heart"

I said in a southern dandy voice and he rolled his eyes.

We bantered, mostly just nonsensical things to wren till the operator announced she was going to start the ride, and to put all bags at our feet.

I looked to wren, still holding the tiny panda.

"Baby bear why don't we put the panda away for the ride, just to be safe?"

Wren, still with a cherry attitude, shook his head.

"No daddy, I gots to hold pandsa.. goes in my pocket!"

He giggled as he stuck the teddy in the small front pocket of his dungaree dress. It's head stuck out over the top and wren fussed with it cutely.

I didn't want to dampen on wrens good mood, so I just held him in close, making sure I kept a hand on the panda so it didn't fly out.

The ride whirred to life as music began and David pulled me in closer to him, gripping the center disk to spin he teacup.

Wren looked around at all the lights and started to giggle a bit. Then yelped as our teacup started moving in sync with all the other.

David began turning the middle disk and teacup started to spin, making wren giggle even more.

We all hooted and hollered together as David spun the cup as fast as the ride would allow, egged on by wrens little shreiks and happy babbles to go.

"Faster faster!"

David and I met eyes, both honestly surprised by the amount of noise wren was making. The same little ball of anxiety that could barely go above a peep in the supermarket, was practically screaming on a pop up teacup ride.

I squeezed him tighter, burying my face his hair and wren screeched, before looking up at me.

"Daddy! We spinin so fast"

He looked at Papa and made grabby hands, awkwardly trying to move to him while we were still in motion and I still had his wrapped up in my arms.

"I take it you're liking it bubba?"

David leaned in and kissed wrens nose, making him explode into more babbles.

"P-Papa!-"

Wren mightve been trying to say something but his giggles interrupted him.

And as the ride eventually came to a stop, we didn't let wren dip down, trying to prolong his anxiety free state. It was just wonderful

We quickly whisked him off the ride, David grabbing the bag. We stumbled around for a moment, thanking the operator and trying to get our balance.

"That was great wasn't it princess?"

"Yeah! Cans we do more?"

Wren asked as he was popped back on up my shoulders.

"Course baby bear. Where are we going?"

"Ummm, there!"

Wren pointed off to a ladybug train thing. We trekked on.

We went all around the park, wren acting as our guide as he suggested thing after thing. Wren and I went on the ladybird train together, but then he wanted it to be fair, so he went on it again with David.

David won a balloon from a darts game and wren got stars painted on the side of his face. It was turning out to a very good day overall.

"What next baby?"

Wren scanned around the place before pointing.

'Horsies!"

My face drained as I thought wren was suggesting a game of horsie, but my hopes were restored as I spotted the carousel.

"Good choice bubba"

David simply said as we wandered on over. Wren began drumming on my head in a chaotic beat, swinging his legs and giggling to himself.

"Oh are you excited for the horsies baby?"

I spun in a circle to catch him off guard.

Wren shrieked in giggles, when he suddenly froze, and began frantically looking around, shifting on my shoulders and making me stop dead in my tracks so he wouldn't topple off.

"Woah baby bear what's wrong?"

"Panda! M-my p-pada-na- pana gone!"

Wren stuttered as he began to hyperventilate. David took him off my shoulders and I held his attention before tears could start to fall.

"Wren look at me- look at daddy baby bear-"

Wren looked into my eyes, letting out a low wine as his breath began to get shuddery.

Normally I would first get wren calmed down, but I wasn't very trusting off the park goers to leave the tiny panda be.

"Baby its gonna be ok. We will find your panda, it couldn't have gone very far. Do you remember when you last had them?"

Wren took a shuddery breath, and hicupped before whining

"T-t-teacups"

"Alright, we'll go back to the teacups, it'll be just fine princess"

"O-"

Wren hiccuped and cried out a little.

"-kay"

David gave me a little head jerk and we started walking back the way we came.

I held Wren to my chest and started bouncing him gently. He was breathing raggedly and tried to keep talking.

"Shoulda kept in ma bag, am sowwy"

"Nono Bubba, it's ok, you dont have to worry, were gonna find your panda"

David reassured him as we retraced our footsteps. Wren was still freaking out though.

He grabbed a fist of his hair.

"Am sowwy!"

I calmly untangled his hand from his hair.

"No need to apologise baby, and there's no need to panic. We can handle it darling"

"Can' s'op"

Wren got out in between breaths, eyes teary but not fully crying. I ran my fingers through his hair.

"Oh my poor baby. Can we try something for daddy?"

Wren nodded, grabbing and pulling at his jumper sleeves. We'd reached the teacups and waited anxiously till it was stopped to talk the lady running it.

"I need you to copy my breaths- just like we've done before baby."

Wren nodded again, I started to breathe very obviously for him to follow.

"In... out... in 1 2 3 out 1 2 3"

I repeated that a few times then asked.

"Wren I want you to try doing it yourself ok?"

Wren hummed, and tried doing them without my guidance. He was a bit rushed but just the regulation of it helped him calm down.

The ride stopped and we ran up to the woman at the controls. Davidd talked.

"Hello, I'm sorry to bother you but could we just check a teacup, we might've left our sons panda on it"

"Oh! Is this it?"

From a little cupboard, she pulled out a certain tiny panda. We had a collective sigh of relief.

"Yes! thank you!"

David took the tiny Teddy and handed it to wren. He embraced it cutely.

"Padna!"

We thanked the nice lady and made our way off the teacups, while Wren had a cute little reunion with the panda. When a voice came from behind us.

"David?"

David stopped short and turned around, confused as to who was calling him. I stopped as well, adjusting wren slightly on my hip.

A woman just coming off the ride stepped up towards us, not close, but she was clearly the one who called David's name. Though, he couldn't recognise her.

"Oh. my. god."

She smiled, half laughed and rushed forward, going for a hug from David.

He backed up, as did I, wren just watching the people around him and focusing on his steady breaths, and his refound panda.

David stared quizzically for a moment, before the woman's expression fell and she said.

"David, its Cassie"

David's eyes went wide. He slowly turned to me and said very calmly, not wanting to alert wren that he might be distressed, but certainly alerting me.

He leaned down to wren and quickly said

"Hey bubba why don't you and Daddy go ahead for a second and I'll catch right up to you, kay bubba?"

"Papa no be long"

"I won't bubs"

"Oki"

He gave Wren a little kiss on the cheek and he was happy. Couldn't say I was the same.

"You two keep walking, I'll only be a second, we don't wanna loose our place in line"

He put his hand on my arm and squeezed.

"Daddy wes gotta go. Panda wansa see horsies!"

Wren excitedly said to me, completely recovered from the missing panda and unaware of the strange tension in the air. I just bounced him a little, while trying to communicate a thousand questions to David through a complicated series of looks.

He sent me a simple one back that said.

Please just go, I'm so sorry. Its nothing to worry about

I felt I could trust him, a good relationship can do that, despite the abject shock in his eyes. So as a way of quelling any lingering worries I fixed him a quick kiss, him returning it and settling the butterflys in my stomach.

David handed me wrens bag and we walked on, leaving David with 'Cassie'.

Wren squeezed his panda tightly.

"Daddy can we put pandsa in my bag. Wan safe"

"Thats a great idea baby, here-"

I unzipped the top, revealing topsys plush head.

"Think topsy is begging to say hi"

Wren giggled and popped the panda in next to the elephant. I zipped the bag back up and gave it a pat.

"Nice and safe, huh?"

Wren nodded happily, then we looked forward to the carousel.

We were able to go straight on and wren picked a sparkley blue horse. I hopped up and wren sat back against my chest.

"Am ready Daddy!

Wren announced like I controlled the ride, I chuckled.

"Okok, hold on baby"

Wren held onto the poles just below mine. I held on with one hand, the other wrapped around wrens waist.

The horses began to move and wren bopped along to the joyful music, I tried to keep my mind on him, but it kept drifting to the woman that freaked out David.

He's rarely shaken, so it had to be something significant. The idea darkened my thoughts, so I was thankful to wrens bright and lovely conversation.

"Daddy?"

"Yeah baby?"

"Can I get a real horsie some day?"

I smiled

"I don't know about that baby, where would we keep a horse?"

"M-my Nursawee!"

I laughed as wren went on
