《1855 American Tycoon》Chapter 15: The First Pot of Gold (Part 1)

In the exchange, everyone was fighting to say hello to these fools in their eyes, all fighting to do business with them. All of them despise these fools in their hearts, but all of them smile at them with what they consider to be their most affectionate smile - even if you are a fool, or even a dog, as long as you have money for us to earn, we will smile at you from the bottom of our hearts.
Warren? Delano and Scrooge and Rockefeller also smiled and greeted those guys, and through their scramble, began to press the price as much as possible. In this kind of thing Scrooge is not good at it, at least not yet, so he just honestly stayed on the sidelines to learn.
In just one morning, Scrooge and his men lent out more than 5,000 tons of grain from other merchants. People kept wanting to trade with them. But at this point, even the long-suffering Warren? The company's main business is to provide a wide range of products and services to the public.
Rockefeller turned his head and looked at Scrooge. To be honest, seeing such a situation, Scrooge also felt a lot of pressure, although he knows history tells him that a few months later, because of Europe, especially the Russian grain harvest, food market prices plummeted, grain prices once fell to less than half of the original. And he felt that his arrival on the world's impact is still insignificant, and should not lead to such a big change in events, although a butterfly in South America flapping its wings, it may cause a storm in North America. But the butterfly effect is too long a time accumulation as a precondition. So theoretically, they should not have anything to worry about, but Scrooge still can not help but feel panic.
"Damn it! The nerve requirement for speculative trading is not low. Although this is fast money,...... but unrealistic ah." The company's main business is to provide a wide range of products and services. The fact is that you can't be able to get a good deal on your own.
"We're going to make a lot of money! Trust me!" Scrooge looked Rockefeller in the eye and whispered with conviction.
Many years later, when Rockefeller was old enough to write his memoirs, this is how he described Scrooge in his memoirs of the deal.
"As a businessman, Scrooge had many flaws. For example, his negotiating ability has not been too good, well, he is not very good at negotiating to catch the weakness of the opponent, often lets go of good opportunities. Therefore, you see many times, some important transactions, are his subordinates to negotiate, he only cared about the final signature. The speed at which Scrooge makes decisions is relatively slow, he always thinks and thinks and thinks. But you must not underestimate him because he has an outstanding ability that makes his flaws worthless. Scrooge always had an exceptional eye for how each business would develop in the future - I never saw him make even one strategic misjudgment. And he has a strong character, and although he may hesitate for a long time before making a certain decision, once the decision is made, even if the situation is not favorable, he will persist to the end. And the facts have proven time and again that his persistence is always right. For example, in my first collaboration with Scrooge, well, when we started shorting food in 1857. Countless people made fools of us, fighting to lend us food so that they could gorge themselves on our flesh and blood in a few months. Faced with that situation, to be honest, I was shaken - well, I was immature at that time. But Scrooge was very calm and determined at that time. This was also evident in many subsequent times. This may be because in every action before, he has always thought of a very clear reason for it. It's amazing to think that Scrooge was only a little young at that time. Sometimes you feel like God has put the soul of an adult into the body of a half-grown child ......"

Finally, when the day's transaction ended, they successfully borrowed more than 10,000 tons of grain, and sold it at the prevailing price, in exchange for nearly a million dollars. If the money wasn't still under the supervision of the bank, I'm afraid Scrooge would have had the idea of running away with the money.
......
The company's main business is to provide a wide range of products and services to the market.
Sure enough, not a moment later, Rockefeller dropped the book, to himself into a large glass of water, and then drank it down in one gulp. Then he said, "Well, Scrooge, what should we do next ......"
"Do not do anything, wait for the news is enough." Scrooge didn't even raise his eyelids.
Rockefeller circled the room, picked up the book again, looked at it as if to give himself confidence, and read out a paragraph here: "The area of wheat planted near the Paris basin has increased by about one layer compared to last year, and the Loire plain has a similar situation. From the recent situation, the wheat in France is growing well ...... Austria also increased the planting area, the specific figures are not known, the growth of good ...... Ukraine region ...... good growth! ...... should be no problem!"
Rockefeller again put down his small book, turned around again, then sat in his chair for two minutes, then stood up again ......
"John, can you not keep turning around in front of my eyes, my eyes are blurry!" Scrooge raised his head and said.
"I'm sorry, but I ...... maybe we need to do something early. It's like a suspect waiting for a judge to acquit him or put him on the gallows."
"Well, you want to do something? Well, let's clean up the lice on the boat while it's still light. Otherwise, we'll have to suffer again at night. ......" Scrooge stood up.
"Well, let's do it!" Rockefeller was not opposed to finding a thing to do.
......
With more than two months to go before the scheduled delivery date, there was no point in staying in Chicago. So the next morning, they went to say goodbye to Warren Delano. The next morning, they went to say goodbye to Warren Delano and prepared to go back to Cleveland.
When the hotel bellboy brought them to the luxury suite where Warren Delano was staying, the hotel was in the middle of the night. When the hotel waiter brought them to the luxury suite where Warren Delano was staying, Warren? He was sitting at the table polishing a revolver that had been disassembled into a series of parts.
"Ah, you guys are early." Seeing Rockefeller and Scrooge walk in, Warren? Drano from the chair slightly rose a little to show welcome, "so early to see me, what is it?"
"Mr. Delano, we are ready to go back to Cleveland and want to say goodbye to you," Rockefeller said.
"Ah, yes, it will be two months before we get out. There's no point in staying here. I'm getting ready to go back to New York, too. Oh, when's your train?" Warren? Drano said as he started loading his pistol.
"Mr. Delano, it's the 1 p.m. train," Scrooge said.
"Ah, that's early. Well, Scrooge, John, sit down, all of you." Warren Delano said. Delano said while pulling a chair to his side, "Scrooge, you sit here."
Scrooge sat down next to Warren Delano. Delano sat down beside him.
"Mr. Delano, you are maintaining a handgun?" Scrooge said.

"Oh, yes. Maybe I'll need it soon. I don't want to be in that situation, though." Warren? Delano now has the gun mostly assembled. He put in the last big part, the rotor, and then with a flick of his hand, with a "click", the whole gun was loaded. Warren Delano Drano flicked his left hand on the wheel, and the metal wheel spun rapidly, emitting a pleasant clattering sound.
"Mr. Delano, even if our adventure fails, you don't have to ......," Rockefeller said.
"John! See where you're going?" Warren? Drano a little upset, "I'm not as useless as you think! I mean, if this sale fails - although with the information we have, it's highly unlikely - I'll have to go back to Asia and take my chances. There, the money is good and dangerous. A good gun is almost a life. ...... How about it, boys, if we get unlucky this time, would you like to follow me to Asia and take a chance on a comeback?"
"Mr. Delano, what are you going to do in Asia to buy and sell?" Scrooge asked.
"The risky, profitable deals, of course. I used to deal in porcelain and tea in China - the country where even men wear a pigtail braid, which, God forbid, is the ugliest haircut I've ever seen. It's a good trade, it's profitable. But now that I'm older, I don't have time to make money that slowly, so I'm going to do the more profitable and dangerous trade - selling opium. You can't do this without it!" Warren? Drano said, while a casual hand, the wheel out again, and then pulled out a handful of paper shells and began to load.
"Mr. Delano, can you teach me how to use this thing?" Scrooge said with two eyes fixed on the revolver in his hand.
"Oh, my little Scrooge, this is not a toy, it's dangerous. But ...... well, if you're going to China, it's a good idea to learn how to use it." Warren? The gun was handed over to Scrooge after Delano returned the bullet he had just loaded into it.
It was a Colt 1851 revolver with a long barrel and a relatively small rotor. Scrooge held it in his hand and looked at it again and again.
"How do you load the bullets?" Scrooge asked. Because he found that the nest of this gun seems different from the nest he had seen before. The bullet nest of the revolver that Scrooge had seen before was a honeycomb coal-like thing, and the nest was indeed impassable before and after. Just the rear of each loading hole has a small hole.
"Oh, first stuff the bullets through the front." Warren? Delano took the gun from Scrooge's hand, then shoved a paper-shell bullet through the opening in front of the nest, "Well, and then put the fire cap on the back and that's it."
"Geez, this is too slow to load, isn't it? If we meet a group of barbarians, what if we run out of bullets? I dare say, the time to load bullets is enough for them to come up and kill us several times." Scrooge said.
"So I have two of these, so I have 12 rounds of ammunition." Warren Delano said. Drano said.
"But what if there are more than 12 enemies?" Scrooge asked, still unsure.
"Even if there are more than 12 enemies, once you hit one or two, the rest will be scared off." Warren? Delano laughed.
"But isn't there a faster reloading gun?"
"A faster reloader? Yes, there is. There's a recent reloading gun called the Warren Delano. The gun's caliber is only 0.22, which is too small. Then again, even Smith? The loading speed of the Wesson M1 is not enough to deal with the kind of situation you are talking about."
"The patent for the through-hole bullet nest is still in the hands of Smith & Wesson, and it will take some years for the patent to expire. That's what Scrooge thought.
"But that kind of gun is good for you, Scrooge. Less recoil, easier to control." Warren? Drano said, "If it comes down to an adventure in China, you'd better buy a Warren Drano. Drano, is very cheap, only $ 12 only. It's just that, with a .22 caliber bullet, you need to be very accurate with the big ones to kill people."
The three men talked for a while, Rockefeller and Scrooge stood up to say goodbye, Warren? The three men talked for a while, and Rockefeller and Scrooge got up to say goodbye, and Warren Delano did not keep them for lunch or anything but instructed them to write to him once something happened. So the two men said goodbye out, it was almost eleven o'clock, and the two men walked along the lake towards their rented hotel, from time to time there will be a public carriage from the side, but Scrooge knew that now since the time is not urgent, control of the account of Rockefeller can never afford to spend money on a public carriage. The scenery at the lake is not bad, so it's not bad to just walk around.
"Scrooge, if it fails, do you plan to go to China to sell opium?" Rockefeller suddenly asked.
"I might go to China, but I don't intend to deal in opium." Scrooge thought for a moment and said.
"As I thought, we are still young and do not need to be like Warren. We're too young to be as eager to make money as Mr. Delano. Opium is lucrative, but it will ruin our reputation. It's not the kind of thing a good Christian should do." Rockefeller said so.
He understood Rockefeller's point. Opium was profitable, but at the time, the opium trade was still legal, it was constantly being criticized, and many people compared the opium trade to the black slave trade, seeing it as a sign of unconscionability. A businessman who carries the label of an opium trader is more or less likely to have an impact on his future development. Those who ended up in the big money, but mainly rely on the white trade to live. Rockefeller was not necessarily opposed to the opium trade, he just did not want to jeopardize the long-term interests for the sake of short-term benefits.

I have to apologize.A certain real life problem that I thought I got rid of has caught up to me once again.I tried to continue writing, but my mind was not in the right track to do so and thus, as some people had said, the quality of the latest 2 chapters had turned from the usual "bad" to "worst". So, I reluctantly have to say that I will be away until I can sort things out.I can't say when, but I do intend to return to writing. I might lurk around to read other people's works though. I will be turning my attention to stories with "tragedy" and "despair". The five of us were summoned to this world from our clubroom two years ago to be made as heroes.Shouldn't forceful summoning like that be counted as kidnapping?Well, we chose to go with the heroes route. After harsh training and battles, not to mention all the killings, we finally defeated the demon lord. However, all those achievements literally became nothing, it wasn't just forgotten, it was erased to be totally nothing as even the written records were somehow being disposed of. I was too naive. Who would have thought that the side we have been fighting alongside with, the side we were fighting for, was the one to bring our demise? After I had to see everyone else turn into nothingness, somehow... I alone survived. Note: I will attempt to fix the grammar problem with the help of lieutenant colonel fletterman. This may delay the release of future chapter. Chapter 1 is fixed. Chapter 2 is fixed.
