Chapter 19. Market garden
The next morning Finn walked with Nain Joan into town
to the farmers market. The markets were held every
weekend in an open paddock near the train station.
As she looked around at the caged birds, Finn heard
the stall holders talking amongst themselves.
This was going to be the last market for awhile until they
could find somewhere else to set up - the army wanted to
use the open paddock space.
"This War is going to bring food shortages." Nain Joan said.
Finn had noticed the freshly turned garden beds and newly
built chicken coops in the house yard.
"Who's going to work the farms and get the crops in when
all you men go off to your War - and it won't just be
England either, it'll be all the European countries that are
involved... even the folk in Germany."
That was something Finn hadn't considered.
He was still thinking about it as he walked back up the
hill carrying bags of market produce.
He helped set up a trestle table undercover at the back of
the house and watched as Nain Joan sorted out the
different vegetables to go into the garden beds as
root stock or into the kitchen pantries.
''Hello, is anybody home?"
There was a voice at the front door.
"Coming." Nain Joan called out.
"Go and see who that is Finn will you. If it's the market
people with the hens, tell them to come around the side
of the house."
Finn wiped his hands and went to see. At the front door
he was surprised to see a school friend he hadn't seen since
they'd both left to go to university. ''Hello Bish."
Bish smiled. "I thought I saw you and Nain Joan at the

markets this morning."
"Still studying Law at Cambridge?" Finn asked.
"I am, or rather I was. I enlisted. My call up is at the end of
next week. Are you still at Oxford?"
"I enlisted too." Finn said." My call up is in a few days."
"We're having bit of a get together up at the house. Most of
the family have moved back here to St.Ives to get away from
all the War business in London. It would be great if you could
come along tonight."
"Thanks for invite Bish, but I was planning a quiet night in."
Bish grinned. "My sisters have invited quite a few of their
unattached female friends."
"Have they now?" Nain Joan said.
Finn laughed, of course she was standing behind him.
"It's nice to see you again Nain Joan."
"And you too Bish."
Nain Joan produced a bottle of whiskey from behind her
back and handed it to him. "Finn will be there by eight."

Tales of a Grim World.
Ancient prophecies say that once every thousand years, one shall rise to bring about a new age of darkness. A harbinger of evil, a being born for the sole purpose of sowing misery and disgrace. Through them, the world shall know of war, famine, pestilence and death— the four seals that herald the end of times. Besieged by the maws of evil, humankind shall suffer in agony as they watch everything they once knew be unmade before them. To oppose such a being, the whole world has had to stand united, in the battles that came to be historically known as the Great Holy Wars. Guided by the Saintess of Irithel, brave heroes coming from the four corners of the world had to sacrifice their lives in order to fight against the Harbinger and cast away the darkness. Our story begins in the year 578, a bit over six hundred years since the end of the fifth holy war. In the kingdom of Valtia, a small nation belonging to the Union of Western Kingdoms, an urgent missive bearing the royal seal arrives at the hands of Earl William Taylor. Though it might still be almost half a millennia too early for another Harbinger to be born, dark clouds already loom over the northern continent of Gram, as many bizarre events start taking place. Follow the story of our main characters as they struggle to survive in a grim, unforgiving world. _________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Warning: This work is intended for mature audiences and contains adult scenes and heavy descriptions of violence and gore. A Nation of Distances (possibly a dystopian love story)
Michael lives in a toxic macho world with extreme male hierarchy. When he gets a weird rating that makes his place even more problematic he's forced to choose a fiancée at a Wife School, and he slowly discovers more about the other side of the great divide between the sexes in The Nation. If only the world would stop being so complicated... On the other side there's Megan, who's more interested in books than in marriage, and the unpredictable Eliza who seems to have a connection with Micheal already. Will they be able to cross the distance and become friends against all the rules of their own world, or will they just be crushed? Are positive relationships between men and women even possible? And is there a way to change the world or is that just a naive thought of a silly wimp? 'A Nation of Distances' is a slightly dystopian dialogue-heavy drama set in a low sci-fi future setting about the war between the sexes, disconnect and friendship. The genre will fluctuate in between more slice-of-life parts and soft sci-fi drama with possible romantic elements, with alternating lead and switching perspectives once more of the main characters are established. Content Warning: Certain concepts and scenes might be disturbing and/or triggering to some, even though the story itself won't be extremely heavy most of the time. Sexism as a double-edged sword destructive to both sexes is an important part of the story, but so is friendship.Note that all descriptions of persons and places are purely fictional and made up by the writer, and any resemblance with anything in the real world is a coincidence, since the real world is not supposed to be dystopian anyway!

Asked to be the Champion for Ignatius, God of Embers, he finds himself in a different world, fighting impossible creatures and trying to survive. Their lives now depend on his completing the Challenge and ranking in the top 500. But the odds are stacked against him, and he was a better operator than a swordsman. Chapters released Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 12:30 Warning: After Chapter 11, the MC undergoes a significant change of class and race. This is due to a couple of factors. The first is that when the MC was created, James didn't know what he was doing, so he picked what he thought would work. The second reason is that he had access to more information to game the system a little. The premise is like when you buy a new video game and decide to play it without RTFM. After creating a great character and making it to the end of the first act, you realize that, although your character may be kewl, it is gimped and will not survive until the end of the game. Going back to the start, you create a new character with the knowledge you gained from playing the game and perhaps, peeking at the manual.
