Incandescent (adjective): emitting light; passionate

The area was brighter than the sun. Countless beams of LED lights, spotlights, floodlights, and other synthetic lights turned the nighttime into midday. Down below, an ocean of people crowded and squished against one another, barely allowing themselves the room to breathe.

The neverending torrent of colors were concentrated on one thing today: an enormous broadcast screen in the center of the city.

“Citizens of Artificialis!”

The crowd went quiet, although not silent. Random coughs, shouts, and whispering was a soft drumming in the background.

“Today, we gather to witness the birth of a historical moment!” The announcer’s voice was loud over the mechanized microphone. “The experiment that has been under extensive care from our team of top scientists, has officially succeeded!”

Absolute pandemonium roared from the crowd, surging and pushing with ceaseless waves.

It took the event organizer a full ten minutes to quiet the audience, returning back to the periodical shuffles of noise.

“And now…”

An old man appeared on the broadcasted screen. Gently, he revealed a small black box.

He held it up to the sky, and lifted its lid-

A tiny, green plant sat in the middle.

The crowd heaved into an uproar once again. Screams and wails and shouts and cheers erupted, the explosive noise sending shutters into the small green leaves.

All around, synthetic lights flashed millions of colors in celebration, but the little plant seemed mysteriously brighter than them all.
