《Dreamland》Chapter 145 - The Other Helen

Walking the streets around my house in search of a good place to have breakfast, I meditated a bit about my new Cala schedule. I used to say that I am no morning person, that I need at least a couple of coffees and a couple of hours before being suitable for any activity on my free days. Sports was not my cup of tea anyhow, but if I did a bit more than just walking, that was in the evening. Yet now I felt good, completely activated and happy after Cala's morning sport. Oh, and hungry!

Just as I walked, I spotted a redhead reading a book.

“Hi, Helen! Daniel!”

This was the other Helen, the one from my class with Daniel. They were eating breakfast at a small tavern, and I glanced with envy at Daniel's double portion. Hi grinned, greeting me, then added, seeing my glance:

“Pay one get two; they have a promotion here. Care to join us?”

“Yum, yum!”

“I'll take that for a yes, but I'm not sure you will get two portions if you go alone... maybe if you go together with somebody...” - Helen tried to temper my enthusiasm.

Daniel turned his head and raised a brow looking at her, but he did not say a word.

“Oh!?” - I voiced my disappointment - “However?” - I wondered as she had left her sentence unfinished.

“If you give up on the litchis, I am willing to be your partner for a second portion!”

“Have you not done that already for Daniel?” - I wondered.

She shrugged.

“I'm sure nobody will try to stand between me and my litchis.”

I grinned happily:

“Oh. I think I start to love you, Helen!”

Finally, a Helen that did not send me bad vibes.

“Don't forget what you said!” - she grinned back, closing the book and standing up to come with me to take my food and her second dessert.

We took our trays and went to the cook. There were only a couple of people in line; therefore, we did not have to wait long. Helen just showed grinning two fingers to the cook, and he nodded, filling the trays in front of me. She chatted a while with him whilst he served my tablet, and then we went to pay while she took the juice glasses.

As we came back heavily loaded with food and took our seats, she just showed Daniel her hand, and he handed over his other dessert portion.

“Oh, poor Daniel, you don't leave him any dessert?”

She shook her head, and Daniel shrugged.

“It's only fair; I've lost our bet.”

“What did you bet on?”

He delivered his answer with a straight face without grinning:

“That she'll have you buy her one dessert only for her presence.”

Helen grinned happily, looking at the two fresh litchis deserts in front of her, and we started to laugh. I still had one desert, but Daniel had lost both.

“Do you still love me?” - Helen asked, with a crooked smile on her sweet lips, her long eyelashes fluttering while she was looking at me and then she sighed - "litchis will be my downfall."

Now when I think about it, when did they have time to make a bet? I watched Helen with a much more respectful glance.
