《Transcontinental》Vol.7 Afterword & World Map

Well friends, it’s that time again. With this, Volume 7 has come to an end, and a lot of things have happened here that have shed some light on the mysteries of the world. I’m pretty proud of this Volume, since it finally explained some more things about the Gods and their antics. Seriously though, I don’t think anyone could’ve expected the Gods to be real, much less for Lune and company to meet them in person, that I’m sure of!
Apart from that, we also got a lot of callbacks to Volume 2, be it through the character Pierre, who is siblings with the Vice General of ARA and current Acting General, Jorgen, or even the various parallels between gang wars and the actual war. Although, I don’t think I focused on the war as much as I should’ve, I still don’t like talking about it much. War is a game without winners, so a story about it would just end in disappointment.
Lune was never one for war, he too sees the futility of it, so he actively chooses to avoid it at all costs. So why, you may ask, did he suddenly get the idea to just join the Lis side during Pierre’s questioning? And to that, I can only say that Lune’s was put on the spot. He wanted to just get things over with a bit too much, and in doing so he accidentally slowed their journey down a fair bit.
Another thing I feel like I’ve focused on a lot this Volume is Lune’s and Cecily’s relationship. Certainly, there was plenty of that in Volume 6, but since Meil was there, they really didn’t get to talk one-on-one all that much. That’s why this Volume had a ton of everything in it regarding these two!

Both are quite conflicted about how to view their current relationship. Lune feels ashamed and guilty about cheating on Cecily with Marina, but he also doesn’t wanna let go of the happy memories he made with her. That’s why he tries his best to patch things up with Cecily, but loses any signs of politeness the moment someone badmouths Marina. Basically, it’s that type of thing.
Cecily on the other hand, she’s conflicted, yes, but how exactly? She’s upheld her end of the promise to remain true and take care of Nelly all by herself until Lune came back, and look what it got her. She does love him, but she can’t help but get the urge to spit on his face every time she sees it. I don’t think I need to justify why she’s mad at him for cheating on her, because that’s objectively a pretty crappy thing to do to someone.
Think of it like this – your significant other went on a business trip and you stayed behind to take care of your child, and then their best friend suddenly shows up at your doorstep and tells you the news of them having had a 3-year-long affair with another person, who they even married. That’d grind anyone’s gears.
Well, we’ll get plenty more opportunities to explore their relationship in the coming Volume, especially now that they’re not in such a life or death situation. Now it’s time for true, bona fide Slice of Life with the Grimhearts! Thank you for reading thus far, and I hope you get excited for Volume 8!

Only Villains Do That
While waiting on an Akihabara train platform one day, ordinary high schooler Yoshi Shinonome was suddenly plucked from his normal life in Japan and whisked away by a beautiful goddess to Ephemera, a world of magic and adventure, to serve as her Hero and drive back the evil Dark Lord. This is not his story. Standing nearby at the moment Yoshi was isekai'd was a man named Seiji - a rude, cranky, misanthropic musician who was not at all pleased to find himself also snatched up and transported to Ephemera by the goddess's wicked sister, Virya. According to this self-proclaimed Goddess of Evil, the whole fantasy adventure thing was a game she and her sister played to stave off the boredom of immortality, and since the good goddess, Sanora, had picked her Hero...well, Virya needed a Dark Lord. A grown man with his own career and ambitions, Seiji has no interest in playing. Unfortunately for him, the call to adventure was not a request. Now, he must conquer Ephemera and defeat the Hero...or Virya promises to make him beg for the release of death before granting it. Playing along for his own survival, Seiji nonetheless is under no illusions who his true enemy is, and it's not the naive young would-be Hero from his own world. Placed in an impossible position, Seiji must make enough progress toward world domination to keep his sadistic patron goddess off his back, but not so much that he can't strike an accord with the forces of Good and convince the Hero Yoshi that it's the goddesses who are their mutual enemy. Forced to embrace Evil without being too evil, Seiji walks the razor's edge, building his forces and biding his time till he can get revenge on the goddesses and be free of them, his only certainty that he will not be getting out of this with his hands clean. A Dark Lord's gotta do what a Dark Lord's gotta do. Updates Tuesday and Friday. Most Patreon tiers get to read one chapter in advance of the public release!
