I remember that one day when I went out walking

A feeling of insecurity, doubt lingered deep inside me

Wasn't able to feel the peace, something was lacking

Was progressing on like a lone fish lost in deep sea

Mind drifted to a person I wanted to hate with passion

My thoughts all about them, I could hear their laugher

Turned and saw no one behind, was just imagination

Quickly rushed back to my home, to avoid a disaster

They had left me behind but I could hear their calling

Why didn't they help when I was all alone in the dark

Could heard my own breath unevenly rising and falling

Then why am I yearning, why do I still want them back?

Feelings are so funny aren't they? extremely puzzling

They, in the loving embrace of their dearest somebody

My heart that carried all my love, endured all suffering

To them I wasn't more than a street stranger, a nobody

I always try to use they/them pronouns when I write romance from my perspective.

This is a sonnet, a fourteen line poem with a fixed scheme.
