《Enamoured》Original Edition: Chapter 40

I struggled with words as I stared into those blue Christoulakis eyes, almost the same color as Zeus' piercing blues.

I remembered all my previous lives but none as Lady Sienna Rose yet the person standing in front of me said that I'd been her. There was no way it was true, right? Like, how could that be possible?

"No," I finally found the strength to say one word without stuttering. "I'm not."

"Honey, but you are." Queen Rhea giggled. "Are you telling me that I can't recognize my own sister?"

"But I can't be your sister. I can't be Lady Sienna Rose Stavros," I argued desperately. "I don't remember ever falling in love with him," I pointed at Zeus who was looking at Queen Rhea with so much admiration that he probably wouldn't know even if I used my middle finger. "And I remember all my previous lives. If I were your sister, I would've had some recollections."

"Plus, you're a true Christoulakis, Zeus' descendant. You have those blue Christoulakis eyes. I'm a Stavros."

When Zeus' descendants (Christoulakis) were born as Christoulakis, their eyes would reflect Zeus' baby blues. Just like Poseidon's descendant (Ambrosia) born as Ambrosia would have green eyes, and Hades' descendant (Stavros) born as Stavros would have dark-brown eyes. When a Christoulakis was born as an Ambrosia, their eye color would varied, maybe light brown or grey or any other color.

Queen Rhea smiled and turned to my father. "Lord Hades, if you may."

Hades nodded and in a blink of an eye, Queen Rhea's baby blues turned dark brown, almost as dark as Hades' and mine.

"These are all facades," explained Queen Rhea as she swept her hands motioning her outer look. "I was born as Stavros but my soulmate was a Christoulakis."

"Wait," I held up one hand. The whole thing was confusing and my brain was screaming in protest. "Does that mean you're Lady Sienna Stavros, the first Queen, the offering Zeus had fallen in love with? Or was it me since you just said that I'm Lady Sienna Rose Stavros?" I scratched the side of my head and nearly groaned. "This is so confusing."

Persephone sighed. "This would've been so much easier if someone didn't steal and destroy your memory on purpose." She glared at her father who quickly darted his eyes to observe the paintings on the wall.

"Do you remember your life as Isabelle?" asked Queen Rhea with the patience of a saint.

I answered her with a nod.

"You looked exactly like you are right now. Do you know why?"

I frowned, giving it a thought. If this was The Vampire Diaries, I would've easily said that I was a doppelgänger but my life was not a CW series so I decided to go with a lame answer, "coincidence?"

Queen Rhea shook her head. "There are only a few coincidences in this world and that's not one of them." Unlike the others, Zeus didn't stop her from explaining. "Once in every seven cycles, you were reborn into this world looking exactly like the first time you were born. This," she cupped one side of my face with her hand and caressed my cheek, "is Sienna's face, a face I will never forget." A small amusing smile formed on her lips. "Now, are you telling me that I couldn't recognize my own sister?"

I was speechless for a moment before curiosity got the best of me. "But why?" I asked. "Why do I look the same once every seven cycles?"

"Zeus made it that way so I could recognize my sister," she glanced at Zeus and sighed heavily. "Or so I thought. Little did I know that he used you as a distraction to get Hera's descendants off my back."

"I'll do anything to protect you," argued Zeus, defending himself.

Rolling her eyes, she replied, "yeah, yeah, whatever." She waved her hand dismissively. "I'm tired of hearing that sentence."

"Just to be clear," I paused, noticing that all eyes were on me. "I'm not the one Zeus fell in love with, right? I mean, it was you, right?"

Everyone nodded.

"But I'm the first Queen?"

Again, everyone nodded.

I could tell that there was a missing link. "How?" If I recalled correctly, Vlad and Klas mentioned Hellenicus making the woman Zeus fall in love with their Queen.

"I gave my crown to you," answered Queen Rhea. Zeus put one hand on her shoulder but she shook her head and stepped forward. His hand fell to his side. "I was a coward. I was but I was scared. The thought of being with an old man who also happens to be the King of Gods freaked me out. So I ran away from home and ended up in this beautiful cave by the river."

"I met a handsome man with stunning blue eyes and told him my story without realizing that he was Zeus himself." She looked over her shoulder and smiled at him. He returned her smile with a huge grin. "It was love at first sight and when I got pregnant two months later, he revealed the truth. I was shocked, betrayed, and heartbroken. All at once."

A tear slipped out of the corner of her eye and Zeus immediately wrapped his arms around her. This time, she didn't pull away or slap him as she succumbed to the warmth of his embrace. "I buried my first unborn child three days later."

I blinked back the tears forming in my eyes. "What about Scarlet?"

Queen Rhea licked her dry lips before answering, "she was my daughter with Caesar, my soulmate. He died twenty years ago when she was only three years old." Another tear fell followed by a shudder.

"I'm sorry, my love," muttered Zeus, still holding her like she was his most precious possession. "I'm sorry you've gone through so many funerals and goodbyes."

Maybe he truly loved her. After all, people did anything out of love.

Zeus seemed to notice me staring as he kissed the top of Queen Rhea's head and moved toward me. He put one hand on my shoulder. "I'm sorry." Those piercing blue eyes bore into mine. "This all happened because I fell in love with a human."

My eyes widened in surprise. Who knew Zeus was not that big of an asshole?

"It's okay, I forgi—"

I didn't have a chance to finish my sentence as his laughter startled me altogether.

Zeus, holding his stomach with both hands, laughed hysterically. When he was finally able to stop, he said, "do you really think I will be Edward Cullen and say something like that?" He scoffed. "Please, I'm the Mighty Zeus, the King of Gods. I don't apologize for what I did. I never have to."

I narrowed my eyes into slits and secretly took back my good words about him. He was still an asshole. Although I had to admit, it surprised me that someone like him watched Twilight almost as shocking as the fact that Persephone watched Percy Jackson.

"Zeus," warned Queen Rhea, shaking her head at his action.

He quickly moved to her side and kissed her temple. "Yes, my love?"

"Stop being an ass," scolded her.

I couldn't refrain from giggling. It was hilarious to see someone who had just claimed he was the King of Gods earlier got scolded by a woman smaller than him.

"I just have one question," I started. This had bugged me for a while and since everyone was in the mood for telling stories, I figured I should just use it as well.

Queen Rhea smiled. "What is it, Sienna?"

I winced at the nickname. Seriously, I had too many names, they should just stick with 'Avery' (or 'Avy' for Vlad). "How did you become immortal? Did he," I nudged my head towards Zeus, "turn you into one?"

Both Queen Rhea and Zeus turned to Hades. They looked at him expectantly. Finally, my father cleared his throat and started to explain, "she regained her immortality upon her resurrection."

"When my soulmate died centuries ago, I couldn't bear it so I took my own life." Her face fell. "Losing someone who understands you completely was truly unbearable."

Zeus sighed. "I love her," he said to no one. "But I could never understand the mind of a mortal. Her soulmate could." He shrugged one shoulder and arched his brows. "I couldn't bear seeing her suffer through the expiation and purge," he shuddered slightly, making me wonder if his feelings for her were as real as he claimed to be and not just food for his ego, "so I brought her back."

Now everything made perfect sense. I nodded. "And then my father gave her the key so she could visit her soulmate during his time in the Underworld."

Hades grinned, looking like a proud papa.

Queen Rhea stepped out of Zeus' embrace and walked towards me. "I'm sorry I didn't stop this cycle sooner. I'm sorry I didn't tell you the truth earlier. If I had, you didn't have to be like this."

I shook my head and smiled. "It's okay." I enveloped her in a hug, and suddenly felt the need to be held by someone. "I just wish I could remember my life as your sister," I said quietly.

She started to sob. "I really wish you could. I miss my little sister."

We pulled away from each other with sad smiles on our faces. It was an odd thing to know that you were someone's sister but you had no memories of it. Even weirder since for as long as I knew, she was Queen Rhea or Scarlet's mother.

"Despite what my ignorant daughter said earlier," said Zeus, earning him another glare from Persephone. "I didn't destroy your memory. I stored it somewhere safe."

"Where?" asked all of us in unison.

A sly, mischievous smile slid across his lips. "The High Royal Court." His gaze fell on me as he raised one brow arrogantly. "You know where," he said. "After all, you've been there. Well, at least in your dream."

For a second, I didn't know what he meant until a flip turned inside my brain. That dream, a long time ago, long before I was awakened. A dream with Adrian in it.

I looked up and smiled. "I know where it is."
