《The Secretary》Sweet Smiles

Inside the box was some red ribbon, and underneath the ribbon was a necklace. It had a simple yet beautiful jewel hanging off of the silver chain.
"Jensen, what is this?" I asked him, a smile spreading along my face.
"Nothing. Just a little thank you gift for bringing me back to life." He said.
"Oh? Should I start calling you Frankenstein then?" My smile turning to a smirk.
He laughed. "No, but you could put it on."
I turned back to the box, grabbing the simple necklace and unclipping the small chain, then wrapped it around my neck.
"Could you?" I asked him.
He seemed to get what I was asking, he grabbed the small chain from my hands, and used his other hand to move my hair away from my neck.
His fingers are warm, and gentle as they moved my hair, so gentle when I felt them in the back of my neck it seemed as if he was caressing my neck. No, he is simply moving my hair out of the way. Nothing more.
He then clipped the chain and let it rest on the back of my neck, then moving my hair back into place.
I turned around to face him, admiring the small jewel in my hand. He placed his hand in mine, bringing it away from the jewel. I looked up at him, which his eyes seemed to bore into mine.
"Jensen?" I asked.
He said nothing, instead just gave me a sweet smile and a squeeze of the hand.
"Are you... alright?" I asked him.
His smile grew wider. "I'm great Princess, what about you? How are you feeling?" He teased.
"We'll I'm fine, thanks for asking." I said sarcastically. "And no pet names, I'm not your's, you goof. Besides, how did you manage to do this anyway?"

"Money." He said shrugging, pulling me off the stage, and out of the auditorium.
"Of course it was money rich boy." I said.
"You like this rich boy though." He smirked.
"Okay, fine your not wrong. I do like you." I paused. "Only for your money though." I joked.
"Oh no! Not another Danneel." He cried sarcastically.
We both started laughing, we were making in fun of his money and his ex wife, what harm could it do?
We continued the rest of our time at the zoo laughing and squealing like little kids at a playground. It was like old times, back when we were just us, no big companies, no drama, just us.
Seeing his smile was absolutely breathtaking, this was the happiest he had been in ages, I couldn't remember the last time I've seen him smile like that.
He himself was absolutely breathtaking, his eyes, his smile, his body. I've never noticed him like this before, just seeing him glow with happiness. It was almost as if he was a completely different person. Someone I could possibly fall in love with.
No. Falling in love with him was not an option. I refuse to just become one of his little bootie calls. That's not me, besides, we're just friends, really good friends that's all, not only that but he is my boss. That would be completely unprofessional.
Jensen and I are just friends, business partners. Nothing more.
"Hey, you okay?" Jensen asked.
"Hm, what?" I asked.
"You look down, you feeling alright?" He asked.
The concerns in his expression only proved of his change in his purpose as to asking me. He seemed like he actually cared about me. It was...nice.
"Yes, I'm alright. Just thinking." I smiled.

"Are you sure?" He asked.
If I answered him he would ask me what I was thinking about. I quickly pulled out my phone, looking at the time.
"Oh would you look at the time, we need to go pick up Jj. We can't leave her for too long." I said, shoving my phone back into my pocket and turning to walk to the car.
Jensen grabbed my arm, not letting me leave.
"Y/n, seriously. What's the matter? I know I shut you out before, and I know it hurt you, but please, what's wrong?" He pleaded when I turned to look at him.
I couldn't tell him what I was thinking, but he did seem genuinely concerned. If I didn't tell him something then he would be crushed.
"Really Jensen, it's nothing, I was just thinking about...someone." I said.
"Someone huh? Can I ask who?" He asked, a smirk growing on his face.
"Oh come on! I told you what I was thinking about, you never said I had to be specific!" I laughed.
He started laughing. "Okay, okay. Fine you win. I will find out eventually, you know that right?"
"Of course you will Jensen. If not you'll hire some spy to get it out of me." I smirked. "And it'll be easy to find a spy with all that money rich boy."
"Perhaps I don't need a spy to get it out of you, I'll find out myself." He said, his smirk wider, his fingertip tracing along my jaw.
And there it was, back to the Jensen who lives in the office. It wasn't that I didn't like him like this, it was amusing to see him a little aroused, but I wasn't going to be one of his little flings.
"Okay, lover boy. Let's go pick up Jj, for real now." I said, grabbing his hand from my jawline and pulling him along, back to the car.

8 3058A Standard Model of Magic
The world ended, and magic came back. The part our parents didn't expect, was for Science to break on reentry. Twenty years after the apocalypse, with our nations dismantled and hidden continents unearthed, a new generation has grown up in the wreckage of 21st century civilization. For us, the fantastic is at our doorstep and we have had no choice but to fight back. Meanwhile, the laws of nature bend and break at the whims of immortal gods, all of which are now dead and none of which are content to stay that way. But we cannot afford to give up. We are the stewards of a rewritten century, in which a little luck and a whole lot of magic might make anything possible – maybe even a world better than the one we lost. A Standard Model of Magic is a complete overhaul of my old story A Storm in the Fall. I'm afraid I was unhappy with the LitRPG elements, which I don't mind reading, but I apparently loath writing. Sorry. Once I'd made the choice to decouple the story from the OF that inspired it and reconfigure the magic system to my satisfaction, little of the original plotline survived. I will be salvaging most of my original characters, and I will keep some elements which are endemic to the genre, but that is all. I don't have an update schedule which I can commit to yet, but I will try to maintain a weekly pace.(This is currently RoyalRoad exclusive, since I'm lazy. If you find it posted elsewhere, it wasn't me and it wasn't with permission) If you're interested, I've set up a discord.
