《Violet Eyes || Haikyuu!! Fanfiction ||》Chapter 23: Burned

It's just another day of training to the members of the volleyball team. Practice serves then receives and then, strategize about their play for the match. They settled on the idea that Kageyama is now their official setter and everyone agreed. Despite the busy day, everyone seems to be having fun and they are also improving, day by day.
"Okay, that's enough for today. Rest up and we'll continue tomorrow" Ukai told them.
"Right!!"
"That guy seriously...he's reflexes are really quick and his speed is probably the highest on this team...and Kageyama..." Coach Ukai noted, looking at the oddball combo "What do you think, Ayame?"
"Well, Shoyo-kun lived in the mountains and I usually saw him bike to and from the school. Takeda-sensei said that it's a 30 minute trip with a bike so that's probably how he developed his speed and stamina. His jump is probably because of his hardwork in practicing whenever he could and his reflexes..." she stopped for a moment and opened her sketchpad with the players' information.
"His reaction time is fast. I guess his body moves faster than his mind could do. Kageyama-kun, on the other hand-" she stopped after realizing she talked too much "S-sorry! I did it again!"
"Nah, no need to apologize. Go on..." he said, motioning her to continue.
"Anyway, Kageyama-kun has great upper body strength, which is usually a necessary physical attribute for a setter to have. His speed, jump, and stamina are also one of the highest in the team. I heard from Daichi-nii that he always jogged early in the morning so, his stamina is the same as Shoyo-kun's. But his accuracy in calculating the perfect place for the spiker to spike is terrifying and amazing"
"Yeah...which makes these guys different from the others...their combination is terrifying..." he said.
"Anyway, since practice is over, I'll be helping Shimizu-san in preparing dinner" Ayame told him.
"Before that, Ayame, can I borrow your sketchpad?" Ukai asked her. She nodded and gave it to him "Thanks. Is everything here complete?"
"Yes. Player's stats and abilities, attack and defence patterns, and of course, some information about Nekoma's players from the time I know them but it's not that accurate" she said.

"It's all right. Better than nothing, I guess. Thanks again" he told her and she nodded.
"Kageyama, I challenge you! Let's play volleyball! You and me!" Hinata challenged the setter. Kageyama scoffed and told him it is pointless playing a one on one against him so it ended up as a three on three match with the other players.
*Kitchen*
"What are they doing, Ayame-chan?" Shimizu asked her as they are preparing dinner.
She sighed "Well, Shoyo-kun challenged Kageyama-kun to a match again..."
"Ah, Hinata-kun wouldn't really give up at defeating Kageyama-kun in a match" Takeda-sensei said.
The three of them helped each other in preparing dinner. While they were preparing, Ayame noticed a figure near the doorframe. She looked closely and saw dark green hair with pieces of flyaway hair sticking up.
"Tadashi-kun?" she called. The said teen flinched and turned to face her. He cursed his self for hiding in the most obvious place. He just wanted to watch the girl cook dinner and he knew he looked like a stalker.
"Wow, she's sharp..." he thought.
"Ah, sorry, Ayame, for disturbing you....Can I...uh...help you guys in preparing dinner?" he asked.
"Oh, sure! We could use a hand here. Thanks, Tadashi-kun" Ayame said. "That's weird...Oh well, at least he's more helpful than Tsukishima-kun..."
He was doing rather well in cooking. However, every once in a while, he would glance at Ayame's direction, her hair is tied in a loose ponytail with small strands framing her face. She had a small smile and her eyes are twinkling with happiness...and sadness? It's like she just remembered something sad that relates to what she is doing. Was that in his imagination again? Or was it real?
"Yamaguchi, the soup's boiling!" Shimizu told him. The teen snapped back to reality and quickly grabbed the pot using hands without thinking, burning his hands in the process.
The freckled teen hissed in pain and quickly removed his hands after putting the pot on the table. "That freaking hurts..." he thought, wincing in pain.
"Tadashi-kun! Are you all right?" she asked him, concerned "Let me see your hand"

Ayame held both of his hands and inspected them. They were red and his hands were slightly shaking. Concern was written on her face. Yamaguchi cursed his self for letting himself get distracted yet his heart was pounding when he saw her concerned face.
"Yamaguchi, you shouldn't do that. There's pot holder on the table, you should've used that" Shimizu told him. He meekly bowed his head and apologized.
"Will he be all right?" Takeda-sensei asked her and she nodded "There's a medicine box on the corner. You should use that"
"Thank you, sensei. Shimizu-san, Takeda-sensei, can you please finish preparing dinner without me? I have to treat Tadashi-kun's injury" Ayame told them. They nodded and she gave them a thankful smile.
"Tadashi-kun, this might sting a bit" she told him. He nodded in response. She turned the faucet on and he let the cool water rinse his burned hands. It sting a little but he didn't show it. She dragged him to the corner part of the kitchen and opened the medicine box, looking for the bandage for burned hands. Once she finally found it, she gently applied it on his burned palms.
"Thank you, Ayame..." he told her, suddenly feeling embarrassed "Sorry for making you waste your time on me. I shouldn't do that..."
"I'm such an idiot..." he thought.
She gave him one of her gentle smiles "It's all right, Tadashi-kun. It wasn't your fault. Accidents happen"
"Accidents happen...but that was no accident that time..." she bit her lip nervously, remembering her past. Yamaguchi noticed this but he kept silent.
"How's your hand?"
"It's starting to cool down now. Thanks"
"Don't mention it"
Awkward silence...yet a comfortable one. "She looked really cute when she's concerned" he thought "W-wait, what am I thinking?! Gah! Snap out of it!!"
Ayame was not looking at him and she was still holding his hand. Unconsciously, Yamaguchi slowly lowered his head. Ayame was about to look up when Hinata arrived and called them "Hi Ayame, Yamaguchi!"
Ayame averted her gaze to Hinata and Yamaguchi quickly drew back, trying to calm down his beating heart "Shoyo-kun, what happened to you? You're so...beat up"
"Ah...Daichi-san made us run ten laps after I...well...we accidentally hit his head with the quick..." he shuddered. Ayame had a feeling there was more to it. She knew how scary her "big brother" is when angry.
"Yamaguchi, what happened to your hands?" Hinata asked the freckled teen, pointing at his bandaged hands.
"It got burned..." he sighed.
"That sucks...Anyway, what were you guys doing earlier?" Hinata asked them.
"Oh we were preparing dinner..." she answered.
"But I suck at cooking and I got this as a result..." Yamaguchi sighed, raising his bandaged hand.
"You're not that bad, Tadashi-kun. It was an accident and honestly, you were doing well..." she praised him "Anyway, you and Shoyo-kun should go ahead first. I have to finish helping Shimizu-san"
After she left, Hinata looked at Yamaguchi with a questioning face.
"Were you about to kiss her?" Hinata asked the first thing that entered his mind. Yamaguchi's face heated up and he didn't know if he wanted faint or if he wanted to hide in embarrassment or both.
"Wh-what made you s-say that, Hinata?!" he stuttered, waving his hands frantically.
"Well, you were lowering your head earlier and...I don't know, it just came in to me. I saw that once in one of my classmate's books..." he explained, scratching his head "She said that it was a shojo manga, I think"
"Was I seriously lowering my head earlier?! Was I about to kiss her earlier?!" Yamaguchi thought, covering his red face "B-but that doesn't mean that I was about to k-kiss her earlier! I-I was just trying to...to...to...! Forget it, Hinata..."
"Eh?" Hinata tilted his head in confusion "Oh well, I should better ask Sugawara-san about this..."
"Ah! Hinata, it's best if you don't ask them about it! Just forget it!"
