《Violet Eyes || Haikyuu!! Fanfiction ||》Chapter 5: Cussing

I couldn't hear anything. The sharp pain on my arm triggered old memories and...why does it have to be that time?! My hands were shaking and I couldn't move my body. The images kept replaying in my mind and it's unbearable. I want it to stop...I want it to keep it away from me...But...
"Mi-Mizuki-san? Please, calm down..."
My senses finally came back after I heard a voice. I felt gentle hands rubbing my shoulders. That voice...it sounded reassuring...whose voice was it? It's clearly a male's voice...
"E-eh? I-I'm f-fine" I answered, lowering my head. I heard a sigh "Thank goodness...Tsukki, she finally answered..." Wait, isn't that Tadashi-kun's voice? What are they doing here again?
"See? I told you she's fine and she agreed to go out on a date with me" Haruiko-san said. Wait...oh...I remember what happened. Luckily, I managed to recover fast from the nightmares. The nerve of this guy!! Can I kill Haruiko-san now?
"What?!" Tadashi-kun said "D-date?!"
I heaved out a sigh and I resisted the urge to strangle Haruiko-san to death "Don't believe him. I didn't agree anything about the damn date, Haruiko-san so..." I took a deep breath and prepared to say the cursed word I've been holding in "Get the fuck outta here and leave me alone before I kick your ass"
.
.
.
His face first contorted from confusion, then realization then lastly horror. "Mi-Mizuki-chan...you...could...curse...I thought...you're...innocent..."
Yeah, right...
"Leave. Now" I said, saying each word with emphasis, a dark aura behind me. I hate it when people judge me quickly. I could curse but for "emergencies" only or depending on my mood.
"A-all right...I'll stop bothering you..." and he quickly left. After he left, I looked around and saw Tsukishima-kun and Tadashi-kun. I'm afraid that they will hate me because I bad-mouthed the second year. I actually thought that if I can be friends with them, since they helped me, sort of. Instead of looks of despise and hate, Tadashi-kun looked concerned, Tsukishima-kun...I don't know, his expression is blank, as always. Is it my imagination or did I just saw a tiny look of amusement in his eyes?

"Are you all right, Mizuki-san?" Tadashi-kun asked me, looking worried "Wh-what did Haruiko-san do to you? D-did he hurt you?"
"I-I'm fine...thanks for helping me..." I said, biting my lip "And...about earlier, can you please keep it quiet?"
"The cussing part or the shaking part?" Tsukishima-kun asked.
"Both"
"Fine, next time, don't go out on your own. You should know that most guys here are like that. Unlike your old school, which is an all-girls school, some guys here are perverts, so you better not fall for their stupid tricks, Mizuki" Tsukishima-kun told me.
I was surprised. Really. I never expected that I trusted someone again of something, regardless how small or big it is.
Trusting someone is a mistake...
I kept thinking that way after it happened. Trusting someone with a secret is a bad thing. It could be used against you.
But I wanted to trust someone...
"Yes, thanks..." I said, bowing "I owe you guys. I promise I'll repay you"
"I-it's fine, Mizuki-san! You don't have to..." Tadashi-kun told me..
"Anyway, I heard from Yamaguchi that you got no sense of direction. We came to find you because class is about to start. Let's go now before sensei will scold us" Tsukishima-kun told me
"E-EEEH?"

The Paths of Magick
Credits: Story by Xcaliburnt. Cover Art by @Bervolart. Magick, the power to bend the laws of reality. All because of a mystical substance known as mana. Mages follow the Paths to achieve power, for there is no more addictive chase. Each Path winds and twists, forcing mages through the flames of adversity and challenge. Though the operative word is "path", the reality is far less straightforward. Instead of a road, Paths are like the branches of world trees, erupting into the heavens, intertwining, and ending in sharp snaps. Only the strongest reach the sky. There are several Paths, and many Ways to walk them—variations of the same Path, and like the stars, they are endless. Magick is the sacred flame that scours the fat, rendering the truest self. Superfluous flesh melting away to show the skeleton of one's being. A chance for ascension—apotheosis. Though not every mage works to godhood, if they survive long enough, It is inescapable. Witness the lives of those that tread the knife's edge of self-destruction. Each one intertwined in their search for answers, revenge, and, most of all: power. These individuals have all lost something precious—irreplaceable—and In search of filling the void left behind, they have taken up the mantle of a mage. Per aspera ad astra. Ad mortem vel divinitatis. (Through adversity to the stars. To death or divinity.) There is no consistent release schedule except my consistent inconsistency. Besides, there’s like a thousand pages worth of content, how can—you already read it? Goddamn. Oh, and there is a very long hiatus between volumes as I intend to edit and rewrite a lot. What to Expect: This story is progression fantasy, so expect a healthy dose of training. It's also heavy on slice of life, and it isn't entirely overarching-plot-driven. Expect characters to live their lives, and not always be on some quest to save the world. There's a lot of magic theory and discussion about it in the story. So, if you don't like impromptu lessons on sorcerous theory by traveling monster slayers, this might not be for you. But if you do like it, rejoice! For there is a lot of it. This is also heavy on prose, purple as a bruised eye. I use outdated, uneccesarily collegiate-level terms and play around with the writing style just for the heck of it. I find it fun to wax and wane poetic, and that might grate on you—I don’t plan to change this aspect of the Paths much if at all. Onto the viewer discretion is advised parts: This is grim-dark/ grim-heart. Take the tags seriously. There will be combat scenes that are brutal and horrifying. Fights to the death tend to be. This is a tale about medieval mercenaries (quite literal killers for hire), man-eating monsters, and eldritch gods beyond the material plane. Beside that, there will be traumatic events that are best left unread. I do not detail certain acts I find heinous enough, instead leaving some parts unwritten but still alludded to if not outright stated; there is simply no graphic narration thereof. This is not for the faint of heart.

From a world of sorcery, his knowledge could have been the exact thing humanity needed. But his magic simply wasn't enough. Florian Cale didn't care. Anything that could see him reunited with his family half a world away was a chance he'd stake everything on. He'd learn magic, and he'd learn it well. Or else... he'd die trying.
