Once when The King Akbar

Announced a superb news,

"I will reward money to the one

Strength of patience who will use."

"Just you will need to spend

A night at the royal lake,

In this cold and harsh winter

For that reward's sake."

People backed off, for it was

A night extremely cold,

The water in the lake was icy

No one can do what Akbar has told.

But an old and weak man

Agreed to be in the lake that night,

He needed money for her daughter

As she was going to be a bride.

He spent that night in the icy lake

A guard was there to examine,

But in the morning at the court

The situation was not very fine.

The guard said, "Your Majesty,

Last night this man was there,

In the water of the royal lake but

The task he did was not fair.

"As he used a lamp far away

Which was visible from the lake,

To get some heat all night

His claim is completely fake."

Akbar in anger said so,

"You go back to your way,

And don't show me your face again

It just lies whatever you'll say."

But in this Birbal found

Something really strange,

"A cold winter's night in the lake,

How far was the lamp's range."

So he went home and created a set

Khichdi he decided to prepare,

Down he fired the stove and

H

anged the pot high up in the air.

Some days passed but Birbal

Did not appear in the court,

Akbar asked him to come soon

But he was engaged in a special sport.

Whenever a guard comes to fetch

Birbal from his small house,

He was found to be cooking khichdi

That's what was told by his spouse.

Akbar fed up with this 'Khichdi'

Decided to visit Birbal himself,

While Birbal was still cooking

His Khichdi is on his special shelf.

Akbar astonished to see that

The pot was hanging so high,

"This khichdi is still not ready

And this is the reason why."

He asked Birbal about it

But Birbal's reply was rare,

"If the tiny lamp can heat the man

Why won't my khichdi be prepared?"

Akbar's eyes wide open

Realised his foolish deed,

He summoned the old man and

Gave him everything that he needs.

So that's how 'The Clever Birbal'

Proved himself the smartest of all,

And with his great skills, he won

The hearts of the crowd in the hall.
