《Reader x Toothless (how to train your dragon) Toothless x Reader》Closer and closer still

The sun started setting in the distance.

I sighed with sadness. Toothless went home whenever the sun started to set.

He slowly unraveled his tail and mine and slowly started moving away from me.

I shivered as his familiar warmth was replaced with icy prickles of cold air.

Ever since I had gotten sick a week and a half ago, I had been more willing to snuggle with him.

Besides... He needed the emotional support. Apparently a female human named As-... No. Asd-... No. Ast-... Maybe? AHA! He said it was Astroid or something close to that! Yeah, apparently she hit Hiccup with her wood axe handle thingy after a big fight with complicated details I wasn't paying attention too.

Apparently having a human makes you soft and emotionally unstable when their emotionally unstable.

So, yeah, since Toothless came to me and needed a snuggle to get in a better mood, i let us cuddle a little bit.

Toothless did a little bunny jump and spread his wings.

"Bye Y/n! And thanks for the snuggles!" Toothless yelled from mid-air, a few feet above me.

"Bye." I said sadly, but he was already gone by the time the words left my mouth,he was gone.Gone back to his human, anyway.

That was good, i guess. It left me to my practicing.

It'd been months since my ribs had broken. Now they were all healed, and I could finally fly with Toothless.

I was excited at the thought, but since I hadn't used those muscles for months, the flight would be short and tiring. But I didn't want that. I wanted a long, wonderful flight to show off my skills. I mean, come on. I wanted to show off a little bit...

So that's why I'd been practicing. For the last week I had been stretching out my wings and doing short flights, even easy tricks. Tonight I was going to do a longer flight. I wanted to fly all the way to my island. I wanted to check on the dragons I had left behind when I had fallen and been taken away.

I lifted off the ground and into the clouds. It felt so good to fly again. It was like I finally had control over the world again. I settled out above the clouds where the air is nicest and the wind drafts would take me exactly where I wanted to go. I soared.

I twirled though the clouds, the wind gently caressing my wings. The clouds welcomed me with tufts and swirls of white. The wind gently drew across my scales and tickled my tail. I was where i belonged. I was wild and free.

Above me the stars shone clear and bright. They twinkled at me, smiling at me. The constellations danced and played above me, welcoming me back. With a holler of delight, i shot a plasma blast and twirled through it, showing off for the stars that celebrated my return.

The moon rose into the sky, slowly at first, almost unsure. It lifted and lifted into the sky, challenging me to fly higher. It called to me, challenging me, loving me. In all my glory, i danced a flying dance of twirls and flips.

I bounced out of a cloud, the white tufts and tendrils swirling as i escaped. I banked into another one that shone pure white with the moon's light.

Dipping out of the could again, I spotted a black dragon flying.Everything was black in this wonderous night, so I banked closer to it. It was Toothless. I quickly disappeared back into the friendly clouds and watched him.

On his back was Hiccup, leather gear, messy hair and all. They were flying in the same direction i was.

SO I did what any sane dragon would do during a night fly... I decided to follow him.

I looked up at the stars for a moment, and one by one they twinkled back at me. They approved of me following him.

As a well trained hunter, i knew how to track my prey without giving hints as to my presence. It was easy, for me at least. Let's just say that I haven't had the most pleasant life, and had to learn some skills that were useful in the moment... I mean, that much is obvious. I have stars and a moon for friends during a night fly.

Besides all that, following Toothless was simple enough. He was weighed down by the human on his back and a basket held fast in his paws.

I swooped between the clouds making a game of dodging them and still not being seen. It was only as my Island came into view, did I realize where Hiccup and Toothless were actually headed. I also realized that if I didn't land on the island first, there was going to be no way of landing without them detecting me. I looked around methodically. I would need to land first, but that risked them seeing me from the air. And if I let them land first, Toothless could look up and see me. A blotch of dark orange quickly approached. It was a flock of Timberjacks were quickly approaching. I could hide in with them and land on the island undetected.

I got close to them and wove myself into their bird-like formation. The wind that had so carefully danced over my winds and head had turned to violent, as it was thrashed and churned by the Timberjacks in front of and around me. The big orange bodies of the Timberjacks stole Toothless form view. I since i couldn't see him, I also knew he couldn't see me in the mass of Timberjacks surrounding me. We descended to the island, the wind from their wings violently pushing me down. I landed on the island roughly, and darted into the tree line. I did not EVER want to do that again. The timberjack's huge wings beat the wind violently instead of letting it lead them.

From the undergrowth and the darkness hiding me, I saw Hiccup direct Toothless to land near the Timberjacks. Once landing gracefully, Hiccup got off of Toothless and took something out. He concentrated on that thing for a long time, a stick moving across it.

"There we go bud. I got the info Fishlegs wanted and a good moonlight drawing of them. Let's go and hope we don't find what we came here looking for. I got the info from a passing traveler and we're just going to have to hope he was wrong."

What were they looking for?

Whatever it was, I was going to find out.

I followed them as they trampled through the plant life and moved rocks and bushes aside. They peered into any nest they came across, wakingmany mothers. The mothers all roared in anger or prickled with anticipation and the desire to protect their young.

"Not this one bud." Hiccup kept saying as he passed different nests, always wary of the sleepy mothers.

A short distance away, I could hear a mother dragon leaving her nest. She was probably going night fishing. She wouldn't cast a shadow and it'd be easier to catch something. Besides, all the predators that would normally steal her eggs would all be asleep.

"Not that one. Don't find that one." I prayed silently.

My prayers were left unattended as a "AHA! HERE WE GO!" came from Hiccup.

I snaked my way up close to them, watching ever silently from a distance.

Hiccup was climbing into the nest. He picked up an egg. It glittered in the moonlight.

"I've never seen this one bud, and it looks like their mother is not around." Hiccup said to Toothless.

What was he planning behind that calculated look of his?

"A mother would never leave her eggs unattended for more than a moment. Her mate would be here to protect them."

"Unless she's a species that doesn't mate for life." I growled under my breath.

Toothless's ear twitched slightly. I silently hoped he didn't hear me. I stepped back a pace and let a few leaves cover part of my face.

"So we'll wait a here for a few minutes before deciding if this batch has a care taker." He continued, turning the egg in his hand.

I failed to notice the amount of care he was taking of the egg, for I was mad. What would he do if "this batch" didn't have a caretaker? Hunting for a single dragon could take up to an hour. What would happen if she did not return in a few minutes as he had so bluntly put it.

So we waited. The seconds dragged on and on forever into eternity. When Hiccup finally did stand up, he did not put the egg back into the nest.

"Alright bud. Looks like this nest has been abandoned. The trader said that dragons on this island were abandoning their nests. Let's take them back to Berk and find a mother for them." He said.

This is why he came here? To steal eggs? How sickening!

No mother would just up and abandon her eggs! And she would do everything in her power to come home to them, no matter what!

The crisp clean air was cut short by a defining, unnatural shriek. I was instantly on alert and the darkness started feeling creepy and clammy.

Toothless and Hiccup both jumped up, their heads high in the air.

"Drago Bloodvi-..." Hiccup's words were cut short by another shriek.

I didn't know what the name meant, but it sent shivers up my spine. Anyone named that had to be a bad guy.

"We've go to go bud. He's going to try to capture the dragons and their eggs. We need to stop him. And maybe by the time we're done here, the mother will be back. But we have to go." Hiccup said, putting the egg tenderly back into the nest with the other three.

Toothless and Hiccup got up into the air before I could even think of what to do.

If this Drago was as bad as they said, steeling eggs and hunting dragons, then I needed to do something.
