《The boy down the river》Chapter 1

(Marco's POV)

"Snrrr...."

Ugh what is that snoring noise? Oh right.

I sit up in my torn and tattered bed. The room has a faint brush of early morning; I get up from the bed.

This room is an attic, the favourites get the nice private rooms downstairs. The rest of us sleep in the same rooms. I'm lucky I'm not in the basement; so are my roommates.

I pull the curtains. Morning light streams through the window with a yellow glow. The room is full with dazzling light. I cover my eyes as if that would shade me from the power of the sun.

My friend, Yuni rolls over; "Oof! Whaa?" I turn my head to see her sprawled on the floor. "Marco....? Eh? Since when do you get up early?!" She springs up from the floor and hugs me.

She's very cheerful. Her golden hair bonds with the sun's light. She looks up at me, her brown eyes tint yellow slightly in the sunlight. She's in the attic because she's clumsy and annoying in Miss Travis's view. I strongly disagree with Miss Travis.

"We've got to go Marco!" Yuni suddenly looked worried. She started to shove a girl next too us, "Wake up you lazy bunch!" I glanced around too see our friend Inni. She was unhappy that she was woken so unkindly by Yuni.

"Jeez Yuni. Can you ever shut your mouth for one second and let me freaking sleep! Oh hey idiot, get any beauty sleep with dumbass yelling at ya?" She said. "C'mon, lazy-boots! We'll miss breakfast if we don't run!" The others started to wake up and realise what was going on.

We were down the stairs and in the hall in a matter of seconds. "No running!" Miss Travis shrieked. Her screech pierced through the hall making everyone's heads turn. "Marco you will sort your punishment later with me! Yuni, Inni! You can sweep up the mess down in the kitchen later!"

After a while everyone stopped staring.

This is what it is like at the orphanage.... Living hell. If you do one single thing wrong, you could get a night of cleaning.

After we got some food we sat down at the shabby wooden table and started to eat our food.

"Hey losers!" Oh god it was them. The bullies. They sleep down in the basement because they cause too much trouble. They walked over to us and said in a cocky tone "This is our spot, freaks." One of them laughed at us and shoved Inni onto the floor "Argh! What is wrong with you?!" Inni protested. "What's wrong, you puny runt!" They all laughed at this.

I lost it.

I punched him.

Straight in the jaw.

If Miss Travis wasn't going to do anything, I would.

He fell over by the power of my punch.

"Agh! Travis will hear about this you scrawny little-"

I punched him again.

"Don't push my friends.... or you'll get another punch....." I couldn't help it, those words just slipped out of my mouth.

They ran.

I saw them talking to Miss Travis.

I didn't care.

I helped Inni up and Yuni ran over too check if she was ok.

Luckily nothing bad happened.

We carried on with our meal.

(Time skip to end of day)

I walked up the rickety old stairs to Miss Travis's office.

"You punched someone Marco... I'm going to have too do something so you can't be anywhere near the other children for a long time." She smiled.

"You shall fish from the nearest river all day instead of your chores. That way you will not hurt any other children or talk to any children for a long time" Her smile widened. I couldn't spend any time with my friends....
