《Lawfully Wedded》Chapter 24

I was working on my laptop when Rohan walked inside the room. He looked tired with his loose tie around his neck and two of the buttons of his dress shirt unbuttoned.
"Sanjana, you need to stop working! You'll tire yourself and you're supposed to rest," he complained as he walked towards me and snapped my laptop shut.
"Hey! I hadn't saved it,"
"Don't worry I'm sure it was auto-saved, now did you eat dinner?"
"No I forgot," I said.
He was sitting a little closer than usual and that was making me uncomfortable. He must have noticed it because he sighed and rubbed his hand over his face. He looked at me with tired eyes and then hesitantly took hold of my hand.
"Sanjana,"
"Ha?"
He offered me a small smile and then place my hand on his heart.
"This might be too straightforward but just know that my heart beats for you and that somewhere inside my heart you've carved a small space for yourself and that space keeps growing everyday,"
"Shut up," I whispered.
"And I'm sure your heart is beating as fast as mine though I'm not sure if it due to discomfort or something else," he said and then gave a forced laugh.
"I--"
"Let's go eat dinner," he said as he pulled me to my feet.
In the dining room, Rohan served me the lasagna that mom had made and we ate in silence.
"I have to go on a small business trip tonight, I'm sorry I forgot, will that be okay?"
"Why are you asking me? And why are you sorry?"
"I thought it would upset you because you're injured and that I'm going on a trip right now,"
"It's okay Rohan, I would say that it would have been better if you'd told me in advance so I could pack your bag but then again, I can't really working with my non-dominant hand," I said.

"I would never ask you to pack my bags," he said with a small smile.
"Mhmm,"
After dinner as we retired to our room, Rohan started packing his bag, all the while cursing himself for not packing his bag before.
"Chalo good luck beta," mom and dad said as they hugged him.
I was going with him to drop him at the airport.
"All the best and I hope this helps you with that case," Sunil said.
"Yeah," he said before sitting in the car.
"Don't work too much,"
"Okay Rohan,"
"And take your medicines on time,"
"Ha baba,"
"And--"
"Shut up," I interrupted him.
"What? I'm just worried okay,"
"You don't need to be Rohan, I'll take care of myself," I replied with a small smile.
"Promise?" He asked raising his pinky finger.
"Pinky promise Ro," I murmured as I locked my own pinky finger with his.
"Sir, we've reached,"
"Okay," he replied as he got down and I followed him.
"Good luck Rohan," I said as he stood there.
"Take care," he said and turned to walk.
Just as he was about to enter the airport, I called his name and ran to him as I hugged him. God knows what overcame me. Rohan must have been shocked because he turned stiff before he dropped his luggage and wrapped his arms around me.
"You know Ro, it has never been discomfort," I said.
"Good to know," he said as he pulled away and looked at me.
"Sanjana,"
"Hmm?"
"Don't be angry at me," he said before he leaned forward and kissed my forehead.
A warm feeling bloomed inside my heart as heat rose to my cheeks. My lips widened to a huge smile as I stared at him.

"I'm not angry," I whispered as I let my hands drop to my side.
"Thank god and bye I'll see you in a few days,"
°
"I'll see you tomorrow," Nisha told me as she sat inside the cab and drove away.
I waved at her before walking towards the nearby café for a coffee and as unlucky as I am, it started pouring.
"Fucking hell," I cursed under my breath.
I held my bag over my head and started running but stopped when I heard footsteps approaching me.
"Who's--" I slipped while turning around and would have fallen if someone hadn't held me in place.
"Not the way I wanted to greet you," Rohan's voice greeted my ears and I smile through the rain.
I stood up as Rohan picked the umbrella and held it over our head.
"It's no point with that, I'm already drenched," I said with a shiver.
"I missed you Sanjana," he said as he wrapped his arm around me, pulling me closer.
"Me too," I muttered as my whole body quivered.
"Where were you running in this downpour?" Rohan asked.
He handed the umbrella to me as he unbuttoned his jacket and then placed it around my shivering body.
"I wanted to drink coffee," I said softly.
He pulled me close and we started walking in the opposite direction, presumably to his car. He opened the door for me and let me slide into the passenger seat before passing me a blanket and then ran to the driver's seat as he settled in. As soon as he started the car, the cold air of the AC greeted my cheeks and I cursed loudly.
"What the fuck?"
"Sorry, I'll just turn on the heater," he said.
He messed up some settings and I sighed in relief when warm air caressed my cheeks. I leaned my head against the cold window and closed my eyes and Rohan drove.
"You're so careless Sanjana, you should have carried an umbrella,"
"I didn't know if it was going to rain,"
"Still, you know it rains sometimes in October too!"
"Sorry na yaar,"
He sighed out at my response. We didn't speak anything else as we drove in silence. By the time we reached home, it had stopped raining and I immediately rushed to my room to change into something comfortable, which was difficult considering that one of my hand was still in a cast. Once I had changed, I immediately slid into the blankets and sighed at the warmth they offered me.
"Sanjana,"
"Yes?"
"Here's your coffee,"
Rohan walked in with a mug of coffee and as he placed the warm mug in my hand, my whole body shivered. I held it closer to my face so as to let the steam caress my cheeks as Rohan disappeared inside the closet to change.
"You feeling better now?" Rohan asked.
"Yeah," I barely managed to say before I sneezed two times.
"I thought so," he muttered under his breath as he shook his head.
"Sorry," I said while pulling the covers closer to me.
"Here take these, hopefully you won't catch fever,"
Fever? That's a fucking nightmare.
"I'm hungry," I said sheepishly.
"I'll go get some food," he said before jogging out of the room.
