《Lawfully Wedded》Chapter 23

I was shaking violently. I may have even been screaming. I don't know so well, all I know is someone was calling my name. I woke up with a jerk, breathing heavily as I realised arms were wrapped around me.

"Sanjana," Rohan's voice brought me back to reality.

"Y-yeah,"

"You scared me," he whispered against my ear.

That is when I realised that he is holding me tight and his own breathing is uneven. He pulled back and then took a look at me and visibly sagged in relief. He then increased the temperature of the AC in the room before shifting and settling in the chair.

"I'm.. I'm sorry Rohan," I whispered.

"You don't need to be sorry, I'm sure the hospital brought back a few memories," he said softly as he held my hand.

It was a little uncomfortable for the fact that some wires was stuck on my hand. I lean back on the bed and close my eyes as I breathe evenly.

"Do you--" Rohan stopped himself before he can speak.

"Do I what Ro?"

"Do you always get nightmares?" He asked hesitantly.

"95% of the time I think, some days I don't but then most of the days I do,"

"And there's nothing we can do about it? And no I'm not uncomfortable but I'm worried about you,"

We? My heart warmed at that word.

"My therapist had just told me to stay away from triggers and that I need to focus on happy things, there were some things she had said that I don't remember because I never even liked going to therapy sessions,"

"I'll try to get you out of the hospital the first thing in the morning,"

"Thank you Ro," I said as I turned to face him.

"Do you think you can sleep now? You need to rest as much as you can,"

"I'll try," I murmured as I focused on sleeping.

He entwined our fingers as gently caressed my knuckles as he lulled me to sleep.

"Sanjana! We're going home!" Monica said.

She threw the door open and almost fell on the floor but composed herself. Sunil followed her and they were followed by my family. Mom and dad were beaming at me and Sonia was glaring in my direction. Rohan must have noticed it because he chuckled as he stared at Sonia.

"Kya hua Sonia?"

"Nothing, I just feel like murdering my sister for scaring me," she mumbled, her chin wobbled as unshed tears welled in her eyes.

"Awe babu, come here," I said as I sat up and opened my arm for a hug.

She tumbled into my arms as started sobbing as she clutched my hospital gown.

"You scared me so much Di, I don't want to lose you yaar I mean you are annoying but then I still love you and I can't lose you," she said softly.

"Awe mera baccha, she's not going anywhere," dad said.

After Sonia had calmed down, she helped me change out of the hospital gown and into a shirt that I knew belonged to Rohan because it was larger and some pants. The shirt had short sleeves which could easily accommodate my right hand which was in a cast. Luckily I hadn't suffered any injury on my legs so I could walk in my own. As we walked out of the bathroom, I could see dad and Rohan talking and Rohan was nodding at something dad was saying.

"Let's go then," Rohan said and walked beside me, keeping a close distance.

We both were walking slowly as the rest of the family walked ahead. I wasn't paying attention because as soon as I stepped out of the room, I crashed into a young girl, probably of three years, I realised she was pale and was bald and yet had a cute smile. I would have fallen down if it wasn't for Rohan's arm that came around my waist, holding me against him.

"Careful Sanjana,"

"Nidhi! I told you to stop running and look at you!" A lady came fussing over the girl as she dusted her clothes and then looked at us.

"Say sorry to aunty, you could have hurt her beta,"

"Sowwy Aanteee," she said, dragging the 'ee' of aunty.

"Ravleen, where did you guys go? One minute you're then and the--" the man stopped talking as he came to a halt.

My knees would have given out the instant I heard his voice and I was thankful for Rohan to be by my side. My family also heard his voice and they swivelled around and came rushing to my side.

"Sanjana," that man whispered and then looked at my parents, who were glaring at him.

Rohan must have noticed my trembling figure because he stood in front of me, blocking that man from seeing me. Sonia came and stood besides me as she wrapped both her arms around me.

"Papa, who are these people?" The young girl asked.

Papa? The world started spinning around me. He'd got a happy ending after all. After everything that he'd done and he'd started, he got a happy ending. A wife. A daughter. A family.

"She's the one?" The lady, his wife said.

"Yes," Sumit said softly.

"How could you?"

"Ravleen--"

"I don't want to hear anything Sumit,"

"It's good to see you getting a happy ending while you ruined every chance of it for my daughter," dad said.

"Chachu--"

"I'm not your uncle!" My dad's voice boomed in the hospital and I shuddered.

"Don't shout at my dadda!"

"Nidhi, shhh!"

"Can we go home please?" I managed to say.

"Sanjana I'm sorry," the lady said.

"Rohan, please,"

I was close to breaking down and Rohan must have heard the desparation in ny voice because he turned around and picked me in his arms as he started walking out of the hospital and I let him pick me, I couldn't trust myself to walk while being lightheaded.

"I've got you Sanjana, it's all okay," he whispered.

Once again I find myself crying at his words, I was hurt. My whole heart was aching as I cried on his shoulder and Rohan let me cry, he didn't even ask a question as I sobbed on his shoulder.

I might have even dozed off after crying because the next time I opened my eyes, I realised I was in our room. A heavy arm laid over my waist making me realise of how we actually lay on the bed. My body was pressed against Rohan's as he dozed off, my hands fisted around his collar and my face was tucked under his neck. The shock registered a little later and I immediately rolled out of Rohan's grip which woke him up.

"Hey," he whispered with a small smile.

"How did I end up in this position?" I asked, my heart was beating wildly as I stared at Rohan.

"You must have been exhausted because you slept on my shoulder throughout the car ride and when I set you down on the bed, you would leave my collar and that was how we ended up this way," he said.

"He was my cousin,"

"I didn't ask Sanjana," he said with a smile.

"I'm sorry I'm so weak," I whispered.

"And I'm sorry you feel that you're weak because I know you're strong, stronger than me too," he whispered back.

"You're way too kind and biased to me,"

"It's the truth sweetheart," he said, causally dropping in the endearment.

My face must have given evidence of my shock because he grinned at me.

"Too soon?" He asked.

"Y-yeah, I mean no! I mean--"

"You're cute," he chuckled.

If my face was red before, my face was beet red now for sure as I felt the heat spreading across my cheeks and ears and neck.

"Shut up," I groaned even though I was smiling.
