《Lawfully Wedded》Chapter 17

"Ah freak, I'm so late," I muttered as I jerked the umbrella to get rid of the excess water.

I look up and my eyes widened.

"What the fuck is happening in here?"

The two goons who held Rohan and Sunil, smirked in my direction.

"And who must you be little firecracker?"

I cringed at the nickname.

"That can blow up your ass!"

"Feisty, boss would love her,"

The man's comment irked Rohan because he slammed his head back so that it slammed against his face.

"Don't talk to her like that," he hissed.

"Ae chotu, what are you waiting for?" That man said and a small guy moved forward.

"Haha, you wouldn't want to come near me, I hate it when unfamiliar men touch me and--"

I couldn't finished the sentence as the man held my hand and tugged on it. My reflexes got the best of me and I slammed the umbrella on his head.

"Don't say I didn't warn you, you son of a bastard!" I snapped and I kept hitting him with the umbrella.

Unfortunately, the umbrella gave out and broke and I resorted to my fists and kicks. My fighting must have motivated the people around me because they also started fighting.

I head butted on guy and held him by his collar as his eyes glazed over.

"Now who sent you here?"

"The MLA,"

"Good to know and why did they send you here?"

"I don't know," he said and I slapped him once before letting him drop on the ground.

"Guys!"

They all looked at me.

"Let them go and take a message to the MLA that we are not backing off the case and that I will not rest until those son of bastards are under bars or better yet given a death penalty," I spat in those goons' face before I walked over to Rohan whose lips were busted and nose was bleeding.

"Nice skills,"

"I'm a Kung Fu black belt Rohan," I said.

"Oh thank you for telling me, now I know never to get on your bad side,"

"That MLA won't leave you," one of the goon grunted and I flipped him off as I led Rohan to his office.

"Come on, let's put a bandage on your cuts," I said as I settled him down on the sofa and rummaged his drawer for a first-aid kit.

"There it is," I muttered as I walked to his side.

I cleaned his cut and put the anti-septic cream on the cut and then bandaged it, all the while ignoring how close we actually were.

"There you're done,"

"Thank you," he said softly as he stared at me.

"You're--you're welcome,"

It was two weeks after the incident that I realised how powerful the MLA must be.

"Hello ma'am,"

"Yes who's this?"

"We're calling on behalf of Mr. Mehra, he met with a minor accident--"

"He's alive right?"

"Yes ma'am, just a fractured leg and a mild concussion, we will need you to come to Tagore hospital,"

I immediately drove to that hospital and found my husband laughing at something the old nurse had said.

"She must be the one then," the old nurse asked as she looked at my panting self.

"Yes, hi Sanjana," he said sheepishly.

"Hi yourself, what the fuck happened? Shouldn't you have been a little careful while driving? What if you'd died or something! What would happen to mom and dad and Sunil?" I said as I walked closer to him.

"Sanjana,I wouldn't have worried about them, I would have worried about what would have happened to you? Would you have married some other guy?"

"Stop being cheeky you asshole and tell me what happened?"

"Here," he said as he handed me a crumpled paper.

'Better back away from this case otherwise this was only a trailer, you'll be surprised what we're capable of'

"That son of a bastard!" I screamed and I crumpled the paper and threw it on the ground.

Before Rohan could say anything, the doctor walked in and informed me that Rohan's leg was badly damaged and that he would need almost complete rest for a month and that for now I could take him home.

"Perfect! Those assholes did enough damage to persuade you to get off the case,"

"Well, I've decided you can take my place," he said as the nurse helped him on the wheelchair.

"I don't think I can,"

"Oh trust me, if there's anyone who can, it's you, I know you'll do it, plus Nisha will be there to guide you,"

"I'll see," I muttered.

I wheeled him to the parking lot and helped him stand up before setting him down in the passenger seat.

"I'm so sleepy," he said as he leaned his head against the window and closed his eyes.

"Rohan,"

"Hmm?"

"I wouldn't marry any other guy," I said.

"Oh that would be too sad,"

"Why? Do you plan to die early?"

"N-no! I was just--"

"Forget it, and sleep if you want, I'll wake you up when we reach home," I said while looking at him.

"You said home," he grinned.

"Your head must be pretty damaged for you to say that,"

"What? You called our home home,"he gushed.

"My my what a sappy man," I muttered under my breath while shaking my head.

°

"Urm... Hey guys, so I'll be heading this case since our boss is on bed rest for a month," I said uncomfortably.

"That's perfect! We need to look into the details and then collect evidences against those bastards, Satish and I are doing that, till then I suggest you also go through other files Rohan was currently working on, that man was dealing with 2-3 cases,"

"Okay, thank you so much Nisha,"

"No worries, we'll get back to you by the end of the day, let's go Satish?"

"Hmm? Yeah let's go," Satish said as he followed Nisha out.

"Oh fucking hell," I muttered as I sagged against Rohan's chair.

I picked up a file and groaned in exhaustion, I hadn't had a wink of a sleep because of my nightmare and because last night, for the first time in my life, I was sharing the bed with Rohan and to say I was uncomfortable would be an understatement. Uncomfortable not because of him but because it was my first time sharing a bed with a man who wasn't my father.

I picked up the file and decided to head home.

As soon as I was home, I noticed Rohan was in the living room so I'd decided that I would sleep for some time and then at night I could work on the file while Rohan slept.

"Hey guys, I'll just go take a nap, I'm super tired," I muttered and not waiting for any of their response, I went inside the bedroom and immediately dozed off when I got under the covers.

I woke up, not even an hour later I realised, due to my annoying phone.

"Hmm?"

"Must have been a difficult time all those years ago right?" A gravelly voice greeted me.

My heartbeat rose, my hand tightened around the phone as sweat broke out on my skin.

What was he talking about?

"What are you talking about and who are you?"

"I'm your well-wisher darling and you know very well what I'm talking about, that incident when you were 17 hmm,"

I immediately hang up and throw my phone across the wall as I hide my face behind my hands and try to calm my breathing.

Think of something.

I think of my family, all of them laughing, I think of myself in a happy way and I think of Rohan, his calm and soothing voice.

"Sanjana?"

"They're getting out of control, we need to file a complaint, I--I got a call, t-they know what happened to me a-and I don't know, b-but he kind of th-threatened me," I stuttered as I wipe my face.

When I look at Rohan, I'm surprised to find him next to me on a wheelchair, staring at me as his lips are pressed in a grim line.

"We'll immediately do that okay? But first you need to calm down," he said softly as he looked at me tenderly.

"Y-yeah," I managed to stutter.

Once I was calmed and he'd called Sunil to file a complaint, he sat next to me on the bed.

"You know Sanjana,"

"What?"

"I just want you to stop being so scared of the past, I know it's difficult but I just wish that some years down the line you would stop letting this thing control you so much, I know you're scared and sometimes you have no control over it but I feel like you haven't moved on from the past,"

"You don't know what you're talking about Rohan,"

"It may be true but I still think you're letting it control you,"
