《Interspecies. (Alien Fanfic)》Chapter 9

I woke up from my short nap, my hand feeling the spot next to me only to be met with emptiness. I opened my eyes, sitting up quickly to get my bearings. I rubbed my eyes, coming to realize I was still on the ship. Yesterday's events quickly flooded back to me as I felt my face heat up. I looked down, seeing I was naked before I scrambled to get dressed, and putting my boots on.
I stood up before seeing James come back in. It gave me a slight startle, gasping in surprise. He chuckled, standing in front of me and dropping a bag at his feet.
"Sorry, I didn't mean to startle you. I was getting supplies ready for the trip... You alright?" He asked, peering down at me as I nodded.
"Yeah, I'm good. I just forgot where I was for a second there. Thought you left me." I bit my lip as I explained, fiddling my thumbs as I looked up at him. It was embarrassing to admit, but I was scared that I was abandoned and alone.
"Oh, doll I would never leave without you." He attempted to reassure me as he wrapped his arms around me. I sighed happily before pulling away, picking up the backpack and slinging it over my shoulders and clipping it to assure it's safety. I sighed, putting my hair into a pony tail and following behind him to the entrance of the living quarters section.
"Ready?" He asked.
I nodded. "Ready."
He opened the door quickly, making sure to not make any unnecessary noise. I followed behind him closely as we first moved quickly, the only sound we made was the sound of our boots against the floor in combination with some electric sparks sounding off. I tightened my jaw as I looked around, seeing numerous corridors and hallways.

"Which way?" He asked in a whisper, before I pointed towards the left.
"That left. Then go on the third right." I instructed as I kept my body close to his. I stopped as soon as I heard hissing, forcing him to stop as well while we practically glued ourselves to wall. I took a deep breath before I heard quiet chirping along with the hisses. I perked my head up, placing my hand in front of James.
"Wait."
"What?"
"That's Zerksis. I know the way he signals me..." I said, taking the lead in front of him and gesturing him to follow me. I kept my eyes and ears peeled, waiting for any other signal before I heard a loud thud, making James and I jump slightly as we watched the large black figure stand straight. I gave a gentle smile as I noticed it was Zerksis, the friendly nature inclined me to believe so.
He gave a low growl as he approached me, before butting his head against mine softly. I took a deep breath as James lowered his gun, causing Zerksis' curiosity to peak. He looked up from me, bearing his sharp silver teeth at James as his hands gripped my arms and pulled me behind him. He did what he always does when he grew protective of his mate, set a boundary or a wall between me and the threat. He crouched, as if he was ready to lunge with a loud his and a snap from his inner jaw. I panicked, thinking Zerksis would kill James.
I ran out from behind Zerksis and in front of James to protect him, placing my hand in front of Zerksis.
"No, stop!" I yelled, earning a snarl from him. He stood back with a gentle growl before placing my hand on his carapace dome.

"It's alright. He's with me alright?" I said, giving a gentle kiss on the top of his dome. I gave a deep breath, turning to James and nodding to him.
"It's alright now. He knows you aren't a threat." I said before I nodded towards the way we're supposed to go, and looked back at Zerksis. "Alright, I need you to protect us while we head to safety." I said not sure if he would understand but I knew he would try. I quickly started walking ahead of James, before I heard a loud crash and bang as Zerksis jumped in the vents again. I could hear my heart pumping my blood through my system, the sound filling my ears. It felt like it was the only thing I could hear, that was until a hostile hiss echoed throughout the halls.
I stopped, as soon as I saw the shining black carapace through the darkness, the Alien revealing itself.
I swallowed a lump in my throat, knowing this wasn't my Alien. He slowly stalked towards me, my feet frozen in place before I heard a familiar click of a gun. I snapped my head towards James, pushing the barrel of the rifle down towards the floor.
"Don't... If you shoot it then others will come." I said with a stern voice, James practically shaking in his boots.
"Then what do we do? Let it kill us?"
"No, we let it get killed FOR us." I smiled before I heard a loud screech, Zerksis flying out of the darkness and tackling the hostile Xenomorph. I ran past the two fighting Aliens, the sound of inner jaws snapping past me as we got across safely. I heard a loud sizzle as I turned around seeing the hostile xenomorph go through the floor from the acid blood. I nodded towards Zerksis as he ran back into the darkness.
We made it into a broom closet to take a breather. I let out a deep breath, nervously laughing at James as he did the same back to me.
"Lady, I don't know how you did it... But you have got an amazing ability over that Alien. I have never seen anything like it." He crouched down after peering out of the square window on the door.
"It's uh..." I sighed, trying to form an explanation.
"They're really smart creatures, years and years of Evolution running through their systems. He's just... A little more developed than the others. He understands the meaning of trust... That's what we have." I explained, also crouching down to his height.
"Trust? Mutual trust, like a dog? A mans best friend is now a Xenomorph?" He asked, giving me a skeptical look. I nodded, that was more of a simpler explanation to mine.
"Just him though. He's the only specimen shown to build trust to a human. Everyone else seems Hostile. The Queen more so." I shrugged, leaning against the wall as I took a drink of water from a flask.
"My work was building that trust between us two, and then working more to find out why or how he is able to do that and not the others."
"I see... That is interesting." He said before standing up, reaching out a hand to me. "Shall we continue then?"
I nodded.
"We shall."
