I always knew this day would come, where my mum finally moves on from my dad, don't get me wrong I'm very happy for her, but this all happened soo fast. 5 moths ago I was sat on the couch with my single newly-divorced mother and now were getting ready to move in with her Fiancée. but I guess that's life, she's getting older now and must fear being alone.

things were rough when my mother decided to file for divorce. my father was an alcoholic druggy who didn't care for us, all he cared about was his drug and alcohol money. we would go for days with little to eat because of him. I was by her side throughout the whole ordeal, keeping her strong. without my father it was just us alone for 3 months. I held her most nights whilst she cried in my arms, apologising for it all. after 2 months the crying turned into freedom. and honestly, I was soo proud of how far she came.

I first met John Avery 4 moths ago when he took my mother out on a date, this was like the 5th or 6th date, before he asked her to be his girlfriend. he came over for the night and watched some films with us. At first I thought he was slightly over working the whole nice thing but when I got to know him I found out what he was really like. he was very charming, just as my mother described him to me, he was also hilarious, the type of guy to make you cry from laughter. perfect for my mum. Later on that evening when my mother got up to use the bathroom he turned around to me and asked if he could ask my mum to be his girlfriend, of course I said yes. he was over-joyed and thanked me with a big hug. And with my permission he asked her out later that night.

And now 4 moths later, my mother is engaged to John and were moving in wit him. I remember him telling me about his children, he has 3 girls; Isla, Ava and Sydnie, and one boy called Jack. I didn't know much about the girls since they live with their mother, and all I know about Jack is that he's 21 and is a Recording Artist/ singer in a band called Why Don't We. don't get me wrong, that's cool and all but i could never really get into their music when mother shown it me, I just smiled and nodded, pretending i liked their music.

As I feel the moving truck finally come to a stop, I rub my eyes and stretch.

Y/M: COME ON Y/N, I NEED HELP BRINGING ALL THE BOXES

she shouts as she's getting out of the van and opening the side door, i grunt and slowly climb out of the van. taking one more stretch I open my eyes and look to my right. I am stunned with the sight before me. mother always told me John had a nice house, she failed to mention he lived in a mansion like house. I stare at the home in front of me with awe, this was nothing compared to our tiny bungalow we rented in town, it was grand and suburban. I'm going to enjoy living here, I thought to myself

Y/M: come on Y/N we don't have forever

Y/N: sorry mum, I'm coming

I ran to the back of the van and grabbed the first few boxes I could see, we didn't have much. its mainly just clothes and a few pieces of furniture we couldn't bring ourselves to get rid off.

Y/M: okay follow me, be on your best behaviour and don't embarrass me

she said as we reached the door

Y/N: why do you always say that?

she gives me a stern look

Y/N: ok ok I wont embarrass you, sorry

and as if right on que, John opens the door

John: oh my girls, its amazing to see you

he says as he takes the boxes off my mother and gives her a hug, then doing the same with me

John: how was your journey up-state?

he said, turning to me

Y/N: it wasn't too bad, managed to have some sleep on the way up. you have a gorgeous house by the way

Y/M: i told you it was breath-taking

she said as she turned to me, i mentally roll my eyes

John: thankyou soo much love, here let me give you a hand bringing the boxes into the entrance before it gets dark....
