《charlie - corbyn besson》chapter five

You hurried out of work and got into your car, extremely thankful to be done for the day. It was around 9:30pm on a Wednesday, meaning Charlie would most likely be asleep and you could sit down with Corbyn. You shot him a text to tell him you were coming over, but he didn't reply. You shrugged it off and headed in the direction of his house anyways. You rehearsed what you wanted to say to Corbyn over and over on your drive. You didn't want to pressure him, but you didn't want him to just ignore it. You didn't want to upset him, but there was no way to talk about Renee without him having some feelings about it.

You took a deep breath, shutting off your car and walking up to the front door to let yourself in. When you walked in you expected Corbyn to be in his room, or maybe in the living room playing his guitar. Instead you open the door to the sound of Corbyn shouting. "Charlotte Besson you have ten minutes, and if you're not in bed by the time those ten minutes are up I'm taking your TV away!" he yelled and groaned out loud. He put his head in his hands and leaned on the kitchen counter, trying to calm himself down. He didn't even notice you came in until you dropped your bag on the floor. His head shot up for a brief moment and you stared at him, taking in his state of mind right now. His hair was a mess, his eyes were bloodshot and he looked like he was about to scream, cry, or both. You shed your jacket and threw it on the couch, approaching him in the kitchen. You put your hands on his arms to pull them away from his face and he let you, too exhausted to put up a fight. One single tear fell down his cheek and he brushed it away quickly, turning to avoid eye contact with you. "Talk to me, please. What do you need?" you asked gently and he let out a shaky sigh. "She–she just won't listen to me! She should've been in bed thirty minutes ago!" he strained and you rubbed his forearm. "And you have a deadline for the new song, and less than a month before tour starts." you finished for him and he nodded, wiping his eyes with the bottoms of his hands. "I try so hard to not take my stress out on her," he breathed, "but she was throwing a huge fit and I just snapped." Corbyn's voice was so sad and so defeated. At the end of the day he was Charlie's only parent and that could get really hard for them sometimes. There was no one to balance things out when Corbyn got upset with her and she only combatted his anger with tantrums; she hated to be yelled at. "Take a minute to yourself, go take a shower and settle down. I'll go check on her." you said and he nodded, softly smiling at you and kissing your cheek. He mouthed a 'thank you' and the two of you went upstairs, parting ways at the end of the hall.

You creaked open the door of Charlie's bedroom and walked over to her bed. You heard quiet whimpers coming from her small body under the covers. You sat down next to her, gently pulling the covers away. "Hey, it's just me." you whispered and she turned over, looking at you with tears in her eyes. You stuck your bottom lip out and smoothed her hair down. "Are you okay?" you asked and she shook her head, launching herself into your torso. She hugged you as tight as she could with her small arms and you rubbed her back trying to comfort her. You shushed her lightly and told her it was gonna be okay, pulling back to see her face. "Why are you giving Daddy such a hard time tonight, hm?" you asked and she shrugged. You sighed, not buying it. "Charlie.." "I wanted to stay up longer but he told me no and when I said pretty please he got even madder. And then I got mad so I stomped away and he yelled again. I don't wanna talk to him." she pouted, crossing her arms. You pulled her in for another hug and tried to explain to her that sometimes Daddy gets upset and he doesn't mean to yell. "He loves you so much, sweetheart. Even when he's mad or sad, he loves you more than anything in the whole world." you told her and she nodded, cuddling into your shirt. "Get some sleep, you and Daddy can talk tomorrow okay?" you suggested and she whispered an 'okay'. You tucked her into bed, kissing her head and walking out of the room.

You tapped on the wood of Corbyn's door, wanting to make sure he was decent before you walked in. "Come in." You sat on the bed and exhaled deeply, taking your shoes off and tossing them in a corner. "How is she?" he asked and you gave him a reassuring look. "She's alright. She just doesn't understand that you can be in a bad mood and it's not because of her." He let out a deep sigh, sitting next to you on the bed. "I feel like a shit dad. She's only five years old and I already feel like I'm setting the wrong example." he said and you took his hand, squeezing it gently. "You're not a shit dad, Corb. Everyone has bad days and you're a single parent. You are the best role model for her and she's lucky to have you as a dad. She knows you love her and I know you love her. It's gonna be okay." you told him and he turned to you, a soft smile on his face. He squeezed your hand in response, "Thank you, Y/N. I honestly don't know what I'd do or what Charlie would do without you. I love you." he said and you booped his nose. "I love you, Besson. Now get some sleep." you said, standing up to leave. Before you could even take two steps, Corbyn called out for you. "Actually, will you stay? Please?" he asked and his big eyes stared at you, hindering your ability to say no. "Yes, I'll stay. Let me steal some clothes though." you said and rummaged through Corbyn's wardrobe, picking something out to sleep in. You followed his lead as he and got comfortable under the covers. You cuddled in next to him, letting him pull you closer to him by your waist. The two of you laid in comfortable silence, trying to fall asleep. "Wait, why did you come over? I didn't even know you were coming." he mumbled and you yawned, "We can talk about that tomorrow." To your surprise, he let it go and resumed his attempts to sleep. You were on the cusp of falling asleep yourself until a loud, harsh knock at the front door woke both of you up.

"Corbyn, I know you're in there! Open the door!"

Even in the dark room, you could see Corbyn's face turn white and he froze.

"Corbyn, who's here?"
