《charlie - corbyn besson》chapter one

Corbyn sighed as he poured the uncooked pasta into the boiling water and walked over to the fridge. He checked his watch and grabbed an energy drink, taking a big sip. He ran a hand through his hair and walked down the hall of his house, stopping at the door across the hall from his bedroom. He pressed his ear to the door, smiling to himself at the sound of the Tangled soundtrack—a film he'd become involuntarily familiar with. Knowing exactly what was going on in the room, he opened the door and peeked in to watch. As he thought, there she was; sitting on her bed and singing along to Rapunzel and Flynn's duet. Her small bare feet tapped against the bed frame as she kicked them back and forth while she admired the television in front of her. "Tangled, again?" he said and she turned around, smiling at Corbyn. "It's my favorite." He chuckled to himself, walking in and sitting down next to her. "I know it is, baby. After this song I need you to go wash your hands for dinner." Her thin blonde hair flipped over her shoulder as she pouted at him, making her best puppy dog face. Before she could protest he shook his head, "Nope. You can finish the movie after you eat. I'll even sing it with you, how's that?" Her once pouty face turned into an excited grin as she giggled at Corbyn's offer. "Your singing is my favorite, Daddy." she said and he couldn't help but kiss her forehead. "C'mon, I'm making you mac n cheese." Corbyn stood up and started to walk out of the room and without missing a beat, he knew she was trying to continue the movie as he left. "Charlie." he said in a half warning, half joking tone. "I'm comin'!" she said and hopped off her bed, following her father to the bathroom to wash up.

Corbyn was a single father to his beautiful little girl, Charlotte Marie. He called her Charlie for short, and she was the light of his life. She was a 5 year old spitting image of Corbyn. Dirty blonde hair and blue-green eyes, fair skin and a bright smile. Charlie was the human version of a sunflower; the bubbliest and sweetest girl. She loved her dad so much and though she had little concept of the music industry, she knew that Daddy and her uncles sang for 'lots of people all over the Earth.' When Corbyn toured, she got to join him sometimes. He loved being able to show her the world as early as he could regardless of how much of it she would retain. Corbyn would do anything for his baby girl, but he obviously couldn't do it all on his own. His mom helped out as much as she could and sometimes Daniel's sister, Anna, helped with her as well. For the most part aside from Corbyn, you took care of Charlie. During long stretches of tour when Corbyn couldn't have Charlie, she was with you. You took her to school, made her meals, took her to the park and the movies. Neither you or Corbyn ever spoke about it but you basically were the main mother figure in Charlie's life.
You and Corbyn had been best friends for as long as you could remember. You liked to describe it as you being each other's plus ones for life. Before Charlie, you guys spent almost every day together. You visited him on tour often and you were there at the beginning of Why Don't We. Zach liked to joke around and call you the sixth member because of how often you were with the boys. Because of your relationship with Corbyn, you developed four more amazing and close friendships with his bandmates. You were there when Charlie was born and you witnessed the toxicity of her mother unfold. Corbyn had a summer fling with a girl named Renee. One day she called him in a panic and told him she was pregnant and didn't know what to do. You vividly remember rushing over to Corbyn's house and helping him calm down, preparing him for what he was about to get himself into. They weren't a couple and throughout her pregnancy she distanced herself farther and farther from Corbyn. Once Charlie was born, they came up with a schedule, but it quickly began to fail because Renee stopped coming around. She basically fell off the grid and Corbyn didn't know where she was until she randomly showed up on his doorstep, asking for money. She'd become a drug addict and was spiraling. After weeks of back and forth Corbyn gave her a choice: Charlie or the drugs. She chose the drugs. Since then Corbyn has done his best to pretend like Renee never existed and he began his life as a single parent.

As promised, after two and a half bowls of macaroni, Corbyn sat in the light purple bedroom and sang along to the song. Charlie knew all of the words and called Corbyn out every chance she got when he screwed them up. You opened the door and hung your keys up, kicking your shoes off at the door. You heard the music coming from her bedroom and followed the sound, peering into the room unnoticed. Corbyn was wearing a tiara and Charlie was twirling around her room, singing her little heart out. "Daddy makes a pretty princess, doesn't he?" you said and Charlie raced toward you. "Y/N!" she squealed and you picked her up, kissing her head. "Are we watching Tangled? You know that's my favorite." you said and she gasped, looking to Corbyn. "Daddy, it's my favorite too!" Corbyn grinned at her and adjusted his tiara. "I know! Y/N has good taste in princesses." You sat down on her bed next to Corbyn, setting her down so she could go back to dancing. He wrapped his arms around you and you hugged back, careful not to knock his crown off. "How many times has she watched it this week?" Corbyn sighed and lowered his voice, "Five. I think I might accidentally sing these lyrics instead of my own next month." You chuckled and leaned into his side, both of you turning back to watch the movie. "You're staying over tonight right?" "Yes, I'll bring her to school tomorrow while you have your meeting." Corbyn kissed your temple, "You're the best." "Sleepover!" Charlie screeched and you tickled her stomach, ready for your usual slumber party at the Besson's.
