《Broken Together (Dramione)》Chapter 10: News

Hermione and I were eating dinner with light conversation. We were talking about a case I have with a vampire when Hermione suddenly cried in pain.

I froze and looked at her, unsure if I was just imagining it.

She held her stomach.

"Draco! Help!"

She yelped loudly.

I rushed to her side.

"Hermione?!"

Her eyes closed and she started screaming. I quickly picked her up and apparated to St Mungos.

Many eyes were on me as I carried Hermione in the hospital.

"I need a healer!" I shouted.

A man in light blue clothes rushed up to me, put a silencing charm on Hermione, and took her from my arms.

"What's her name?" He asked.

"Hermione Granger," I replied.

He nodded and bolted.

A nurse came up to me.

"Sir, please wait in the waiting area, one of the best healers here is tending the Ms. Granger," she told me.

I nodded and sat down.

It was a few hours before a nurse came and brought me to Hermione's room.

I was shocked to see her still writhing in pain. She had a silencing charm still but she was obviously hurt.

"Why is she still in pain?! She should be better?!" I yelled.

The nurse remained unfased. The healer came in.

"Sir, I'm assuming your the father?" He asked me.

"What does that have to do with anything?!"

"Sir, please sit and answer the question," the healer asked.

I sat down.

"Yes."

"Are you aware of your Veela heritage?" The healer continued.

"What? I'm not a Veela," I replied.

"No, you're part Veela," the healer corrected. "So only some of the traits are present. In this case, the most dangerous."

"What do you mean?! What's happening to her?!" I asked, getting more and more worried by the second.

"Most male Veela have a trait were when they get their mate pregnant, within two weeks on conceiving the child, the mother goes through a... Test to see if they are fit to be the Veela's mate. It is usually painful, the woman is always unconscious, like Ms. Granger, and many have died," the healer explained. "It's best if you stay close to her, don't leave her side, but there's nothing we can do."

"So I take her home and wait for the best?" I asked in a strained voice.

"I'm afraid so," the healer replied.

"How long will it last?"

"Anywhere from an hour to a week," the healer stated. "Just... Stay close to her, she will want to be close to you. She will get better faster."

I gently picked up the sobbing girl and apparated home. I took her to my room and laid her in the bed.

"Timmy!" I called.

"Yes master?"

"Is there," I swallowed, "is there anything you can to to help her? I know house elves have different magic than us."

Timmy approached Hermione and tried a few different indications. He looked up.

"I'm sorry Master, Missus is in a fairly dark spell. Timmy doesn't have the power to help her," Timmy replied quietly.

"Thank you Timmy."

"Master, I do know it's best to be close to her, it should ease her pain," Timmy continued.

I did as I was told. I laid down and put my arms around her thin waist. She visibly relaxed a bit. She was still tense and let out silent whimpers.

I took the silencing charm off her. Her whimpers were soft and forced. I had a sinking feeling in my stomach. It was my fault. I should have been smarter. If I hadn't gotten drunk, if I hadn't convinced her to drink, then we wouldn't be in this mess.

I pulled her closer so her body was to mine. I buried my face in her neck. Her hand clutched my shirt, completely unconscious.

"Timmy?"

"Yes master?"

"Can you please tell Percy I'm not coming in tomorrow, tell him it's a," I took a deep breath, "it's a life or death situation?"

"Yes master."

I heard him apparate away.

I closed my eyes and tried to ignore Hermione's whimpers.

It's been a day and Hermione still hasn't come out of it. I realized she would need food sooner or later. I read a bit on Veela and learned a lot on what she's going through. If she didn't have energy, she wouldn't live.

"Timmy!" I called.

"Yes master?"

"Please get me something she can eat."

He brought back some soup and set it on the Nightstand. I pulled Hermione into a sitting position, making her cry out. I gently had her lean on my chest and I put one arm around her waist to steady her. She started sobbing loudly again.

I grabbed the spoon from the soup and carefully fed her. She choked multiple times and twitched. I was able to get her to eat about half the soup and drink a bottle of water before she jerked in my arms. I gently laid her down and laid next to her.

It wasn't long before she started crying and screaming again. She sobbed and twitched.

"Master! Master! Wake up!" Timmy begged.

I quickly woke.

"Master! Missus isn't well! Missus isn't well!

I quickly looked over at her. She was so pale, tears streamed down her cheeks but she was silent. I quickly pulled her towards me and checked a pulse. It was so faint I thought she wasn't going to make it. She was barely breathing.

I suddenly felt a bit panicked. I was worried beyond belief.

I knew what to do, having read the veela books earlier, so I held her as close as possible and pushed my lips to hers. Her hand was on my arm and it lightly closed.

"Come on Hermione, you can fight this," I whispered before kissing her again.

She moved a bit, like she was trying to cuddle. I helped her by putting her arm around my waist. I relaxed a little.

"Wake up Hermione," I whispered.

I kissed her again. Her breathing sped back up to an almost normal rate. Her skin slowly gained color as I kissed a line down her jaw.

"Come on Granger, wake up already," I whispered in her ear, testing her with her surname.

I kissed her again but I made it deeper. One of her hands gripped my hair, giving me even more hope.

"Hermione, wake up, you gotta baby to protect," I muttered, nibbling her bottom lip.

She suddenly released me and a loud sob escaped her lips.

"Hermione, don't give up so easily."

She went back to how she was when this started. I sighed and laid back down. She curled in a ball and held her stomach. Her eyes flew open, making my heart stop.

"Dr....Draco," she whimpered.

I shot up.

"Hermione?!"

"Shh, m..m..my head h..hurts," she whispered.

I lent down and kissed her again.

"Hermione, I'm so sorry," I whispered.

"Sh..sh..shut up.. M..Malfoy," she muttered.

I pulled her in my lap, making her wince.

"Careful," she gasped.

"Sorry," I whispered.

"I'm gonna... I'm gonna s..sleep n..now," she whimpered, snuggling into my shoulder. "I d..d..don't feel w..well."

"Alright."

She closed her eyes. She was still shaking slightly and twitched once in a while. She cuddled close so her body was completely against mine.

I held her comfortably in my lap, leaned on the headboard, and fell asleep.
