《For Life》10. Shopping with the boss

I wake up with the events of last night clear as day, I feel more alert and awake than I have ever been before and it's all because of Austin appearing out of nowhere in the middle of the night.
I don't know what I should be feeling worse about, almost knocking out Austin, MY BOSS with a baseball bat, or staring at him like a looney.
Jesus Christ, I was expecting some old man with a belly and a foul mouth as my boss, not an attractive man with a panty-dropping smirk and oddly sexy tattoos covering his body.
Austin was dressed in a very expensive looking black suit with a white shirt that was unbuttoned, he looked freshly cut with his perfectly styled hair and clean shave, I could smell the cologne he had on from where I stood opposite him, it was a musky wood rich smell, it was intoxicating to smell, all while he stood there, the most beautiful and deadly man I've laid eyes upon.
If I think really hard, I could have sworn I've seen him somewhere before, maybe he's famous? It would not shock me if I saw him on TV or in the news, he is clearly someone to own such a big estate and to have bodyguards around the house.
As inconspicuous as they were trying to be, I still noticed them around the property, now I understand why.
Whoever Austin is, he is clearly protected and worth a lot.
I get out of bed and tiptoe to my door, it's time to wake Max up for school and I really don't want to wake Austin, he was pretty exhausted despite him looking really really well last night, he did seem rather tired.
I need to apologize to him properly today, also I need to stop having thoughts of him, noticing things about him, I can't get involved with someone like him, as tempting as he is, he is my boss and someone important, we are both from a very different world, I know that very well just from seeing him.
As I close my bedroom door quietly, I look across from me and see Austin's door is still closed, I walk quietly down the hall to Max's bedroom to wake him up.
Ever since we arrived here, Max has been more cheerful, like a regular kid his age, he has made friends and now talks to the people working in or around the estate, something he would never have done before moving here.
Opening his bedroom door I see him stir awake and tiredly rub his eyes.
"Morning buddy, how did you sleep?" I asked smiling as I walk over to the curtains to open them and let the morning light come through.
He sits up, still rubbing his eyes, his bed hair is sticking up everywhere and it makes me chuckle.
I definitely need to take him to get a haircut after school.
"I slept good Rose, is it time for school?" He asks tiredly and I nod my head as I open the draws to grab his school uniform.
"That's good buddy, did you have any bad dreams?" I ask as he smiles up at me tiredly, shaking his head.
"I had good dreams, I was superman! And- And you were there too!" He says happily and his eyes light up as I begin to dress him.

I chuckle. "Woah, that's so awesome buddy!"
He bobs his head. "Mhmm!"
I button up his jumper and then he jumps off the bed, before he runs out of the room I figure this is the best time to tell him about Austin, my boss is here.
"Max, remember how I told you that this is my boss's house?" I say slowly kneeling down in front of him, fixing his curly hair.
He nods his head and looks at me confused. "Well he's here and I need you to be on your best behavior okay? Remember what I said about manners?" I ask quietly and he grins toothly at me.
"Um.. oh! No running, always say thank you and please!" He says smiling and I sigh and nod my head.
I stand up and ruffle his head. "Good job buddy, let's go eat." I say holding his hand as we both walk out the bedroom and quietly down the hall.
I hear voices coming from downstairs and I see Max look at me so I smile reassuringly at him, as we both walk down the large stairs the voices become louder and I can hear two men speak in a foreign language I can only guess as French.
The voices quieten as me and Max walk into the kitchen and that is when my eyes land on Austins and a man I do not know, they both turn and look at me than Max.
"Um, good morning Sir." I say shyly avoiding eye contact as I lift Max up on the barstool of the kitchen counter.
Austin's mouth twitches slightly as he watches me with Max. "Morning Rose."
His eyes land on Max's who watches the men cautiously but with interest. "And you must be Max.
Max nods his head shyly and glances at me. "You can say hello Max, it's okay." I nudge him and he smiles shyly up at Austin.
"Hello." He mutters out quietly.
I chuckle and nervously walk to the fridge and get the milk for cereal, I notice the man who Austin was speaking to is now leaving the room, which just now leaves the three of us inside the kitchen.
I glance at Austin from the corner of my eye to see he is staring at me as he sips on what smells like coffee, he catches me so I focus on pouring milk into a bowl of shreddies.
"How old are you Max?" Austin asks suddenly and I turn to see Max holding up his small hand.
Max holds up 6 fingers. "Six! B-But I am seven soon." He says proudly.
I place the bowl of cereal in front of Max and he says thank you before digging into his shreddies.
Swallowing hard I look up at Austin to see him staring at me. "Where you off to this early?" He asks, hinting to me and Max.
"Um, school.. it's not that far."
He hums and drinks the rest of his coffee and places it in the kitchen sink. "Is it okay if I tag along? I need to stretch my legs."
I blink and nod my head, not knowing what to say to him, having him speak to me makes my head feel like it's filled with too much air. "Sure.. um if you want to that's okay with me."

He smirks slightly and my throat feels dry.
Max puts his spoon down and looks up grinning at me. "All done! I ate it all Rose." He says and jumps off from the chair.
I put the bowl in the sink next to Austin and being so close to him has my skin feeling warm, is this weird? I feel like this is. He's my boss but I can't shake the tense feeling I get around him, especially this close next to him.
"Let's go, little dude, you need school money or something?" Austin asks Max and Max giggles and I turn to see him shaking his head and grinning up at Austin.
"You're funny." Max says cheekily and giggles, causing me to laugh quietly.
Max runs to get his school bag and put it on and I walk over to Max, Austin following behind us slightly confused. "The school provides all meals for students below the age of ten and to single parents." I say to Austin and he just looks at me with furrowed brows.
"Oh." Is all he says and then it's awkward again.
Did I say something weird? I hear Austin close the door behind us and I lace my hand in Max's as we walk down the large path of the Mansion of the house, I see guards up ahead open the gate like usual and every morning for us.
As all three of us walk to school, I feel Austin walk beside me, I turn to see he's wearing a baseball cap and running shorts with a simple white t-shirt, but even in something so simple, I see other people in cars and walking on the same path as us and stop to stare at him with lustful eyes, clearly admiring him.
I clear my throat and catch his attention, his eyes focus on me and I swallow hard and smile. "I wanted to apologize again, for last night.. I was just being careful." I say with a grimace.
He laughs huskily and my heart beats faster from the nice sound of his deep voice. "Nah, it's all good, I should've let you known I was going to be in town."
"How long are you here for? Sorry.. I've just never.. worked a job like this before." I say shyly and he just smirks.
"A while, until you get sick of me." He says with a wink.
I feel my cheeks blush as we walk up to Max's school. I clear my throat and avoid Austin's captivating eyes as I bend down to focus on Max.
"Have a good day buddy." I say as I kiss him on the forehead.
Max grins at me and gives me a hug whilst nodding his head, I stand back up and before Max runs off, he turns and looks at Austin.
Max runs into Austin's legs and hugs him, surprising both me and Austin as he hugs Austin then runs off, through the school gates into the school grounds.
"Bye Awstin!" He says with a cheeky toothy grin before he runs up to some boys his age and smiles happily at them.
I look at Austin to see that he is still confused and shocked by what just happened and it makes me laugh. We begin to walk away from the school together and I lead the way to the grocery store.
"He's a good kid." Austin says suddenly and I look to him to see him looking at me.
"Thanks, he really is, he's all I have." I say with a smile as I avoid eye contact with his intense eyes.
I hear him sigh heavily and I look up to him, he's looking at something on his phone and he's typing something so I stop being nosy and keep my eyes forward, seeing the shop up ahead I look back at Austin.
"Austin?" I say his name, gaining his attention and he looks up at me from his phone.
I hint to the shop. "I'll go by myself, I will be quick okay?" I say before walking away.
I feel a hand on my arm stopping me and I turn to see Austin holding onto my wrist as he puts his phone away into his short pockets. "I'm coming with, sorry about that, let's go." He says as he pulls me in the direction of the store
He doesn't let go of me and his hand slid to mine as he holds onto my hand and I'm super confused as to what the hell is going on and why he is suddenly holding my hand.
We look like a couple. "Um, Austin.. my hand.." I try to tell him but my face is getting so warm and I begin to feel embarrassed when people look at us.
He turns and looks at his hand and shrugs when his eyes meet mine. "This way you won't run away from me again." He says with a wink and I gawk at him as he picks up a basket and then walks us down the food aisle.
"What did you need in here anyways?" He asks.
Now I really can't control the heat rushing to my face as he stops looks around, oh god, there's a reason I wanted to go in alone, I didn't want my boss... Austin to see me buying menstrual pads, this is so embarrassing and I don't know if it's because he is such an attractive man or because he is my boss.
I hide my face with my hand and groan out while I avoid his eyes. "..pads..." I mutter out quietly.
He furrows his brows and leans closer to my face. "Speak up, what did you say?"
I groan out and look up at him, embarrassed. "Period pads.." I mutter out as my eyes shift from his.
He walks and leads us down a few isles, still holding onto my hand in his larger one until we make it to the women toiletry section, he walks us over until we are standing in front of what I originally came here for and being here with him, someone I don't know anything about, who is now holding my hand and standing with me in front of something I did not want to do with my boss or a strange and buy my menstrual pads...
"Alright, which one?" He says curiously as he scans the shelf.
