《For Life》7. New opportunities

A knock at the door wakes me up, the loud banging stirs Max in my arms as I look at the time on my phone from the bedside table.
My eyes are blurry but it says it's currently 5 AM, and it's Saturday.
I get up from the bed without trying to move too much and wake Max up, he had another bad night trying to sleep, the nightmares are back and once they return, it's almost impossible to calm him down and get him to sleep.
I grab my robe and put it on, wrapping it around my body as I close the bedroom door and head towards the front door.
I look through the peephole and see a man dressed in a very expensive-looking suit, he has tattoos visible on his neck and on his knuckles, his hair is styled to perfection, and if it wasn't for the tattoos... I would be less afraid to open the door.
I keep the chain lock on the door as I open it halfway until I finally see him face to face. "Yes?" I ask, trying not to be too loud and wake any of my neighbors.
The man stands up tall and smiles politely at me. "Good morning Miss, I'm sorry for the early visit but I came with documents to do with the job offer you received." He says, hinting at the file in his hand.
I stare at him perplexed, what is he talking about? "I'm not sure what you mean Sir. I already have a job.." I state confused.
He smiles handsomely. "I work for Austin Si- Sullivan, can I come in and explain the offer in full detail, Miss Clark?" He says politely and I blink at him utterly confused.
Austin Sullivan? The Austin that I have been speaking to? Just who the hell does this guy think he is, showing up at 5 in the morning for a job interview.
I wrap my dressing gown around me tighter and sigh. "Um, look I don't want to seem rude.. I just don't know Austin that well.. and I don't even know you.. this is just all.." I mumble out, not sure how to say this.
The man shakes his head and smiles. "I understand, I'm a stranger, here is my ID." He says, holding up an ID that says Lawyer and his name 'David Garcia'. It seems all very legit so I nod at him wearily.
"How about this, I leave this file with you and if all is good, I will come by later and we can discuss it in more detail and then we can go from there, how does that sound?" He offers and I think that would be the best cause of action, even if I know his name now, I feel weird about letting him inside my home with my little brother here.
I nod my head and take the file from him as he holds it out through the gap in the door. "It was nice meeting you, this is my card." He says handing me a small piece of paper with his details on it, with his personal and office number. "You can ring me on this number here once you've read through, ok?" He says and I nod and give a small smile.
"Um, yeah, thank you very much, and sorry it's just you know.." I mumble and he waves me off.
"Nonsense, I get it. I'll be waiting for your call Miss Clark, have a good morning." He says smiling politely before he turns and leaves until I can no longer see him from the gap in the door.

I shut the door and lock it once again and look at the file, what the hell is going on?
I move to the kitchen and make myself a cup of tea, while I wait for the water to heat up I open the folder and begin to read the contents inside.
The first thing I see is an NDA inside, why would this be here, isn't this a job? Who the hell is Austin Sullivan and why would I need to sign a non-disclosure agreement?
I read further and it states in caps everything that I have to follow, including no phones or cameras permitted on the premises of this Austin guy and absolutely no visitors, only one exception of my little brother Max, it states that he is the only one allowed to come and go whilst I am working in this house.
The more I read the more I can't believe this is actually real, there are rules, do's and don'ts for things that are starting to worry me, like never locking doors and multiple safe room combinations, multiple hand signals for warning, cover, stop, go, etc.
What the actual F!?
Now I'm beginning to worry that this guy is dangerous, I should've invited David the lawyer inside to explain this to me because right now I'm trying not to panic and freak the hell out.
I continue reading and one thing makes me spit my tea out all over the piece of paper I'm holding.
"Fuc-! ouch!" I whisper out harshly as the hot water hits my leg, a spot on my thigh is already beginning to turn red as I burnt myself.
A $15,000 MONTHLY PAYCHECK? Who the hell pays that much for a job???
I did not read that right, the job description is basically a house cleaner, and from the sounds of it, this guy clearly doesn't need one do the amount of effort his lawyer has put into this contract.
It also states as a requirement to work as a live-in employee.
Ok, now I need to know what the hell this is all about, this is getting shady and weird by the minute.
Hi Austin.. so a guy claiming to be your lawyer woke me up at 5 AM then gave me this weird folder with an NDA and a contract with an insane amount of requirements with a HUGE UNREALISTIC PAYCHECK for a job offer, I thought you were joking lastnight! You don't even know me Austin!
I hit send a lean back in my chair and stare off at the folder. Okay, that was ok, right? I wasn't too freaked out in my text? Ok possibly, but who the hell does this.
I wait for a reply and when it doesn't come after ten minutes I gain some strength and text Austin's lawyer, David Garcia.
Hello Mr. Garcia, this is Rose Clark, I apologize about early. I would like to talk about this contract face to face, how soon can you meet and talk about this in person?
I hit send and wait nervously for a reply back. Five minutes later and he texts me back.
Perfect! I am on my way.
Oh god, I hope this is a good idea.
"So, let me get this straight... If I accept this job, I move in straight away and Austins 'people' sort of my belongings and apartment contract?" I ask, going over it one last time.
David nods smiling, showing his perfect white teeth. "Yep, it's that simple really, all you need to do is sign the NDA and the contract then you leave immediately in the car waiting outside to take you to Mr. Sullivan's home to get settled in." He says leaning back and looking at me with a smile.

I grow tense as I nod and flick the pen around my fingers nervously.
Is this a good idea? "Um, when will I meet Austin? I mean Mr. Sullivan, in person.." I ask shyly and David smirks at me and leans forward with a twinkle in his eye.
"In a week, tops. He has some... Business to attend to out of town I'm afraid." He says and I nod my head.
I sigh out and grip the pen tightly and write my signature down on both the contract and NDA before I get any second thoughts about this job offer and how crazy this all is, but the contract states I can leave, come and go as I please, so it's not like I'm a prisoner in this guys house.
I move the documents towards David and he inspects everything while nodding his head with approval. He shuffles the papers together and puts them back in the folder. "Perfect, all is settled. A limo is waiting downstairs for you and Max to take you to Mr. Sullivan's home, is there anything else you would like to ask me before I go?" He asks and I swallow hard.
A limo? Oh wow okay um. I shake my head, completely speechless and David smiles and stands up, holding onto the file with one hand and the other fixes his tie.
"It was a pleasure meeting you, Rose, if there's anything else I can help you with, don't be afraid to text or call to ask. Good day, Miss Clark." He says politely as I walk him to the front door and I smile back politely.
I shift awkwardly and unlock the door and hold it open for him. "Thank you for reassuring me, goodbye." I say with a small smile and he shrugs grinning and waves at me before he walks down the hall and opens the front door to the sidewalk.
I close the door and rush over to the front window and he was not joking, theirs a freaking long black Limo waiting for me and Max, there's a driver dressed in a black suit waiting outside of the limo for us and I feel the sweat begin to drip down my forehead and back at how unreal this is all becoming.
I get off the sofa and walk towards the bedroom where Max is. He's awake and is watching TV quietly as he sits on the edge of my bed, his hair is everywhere, sticking up on all sides, and has yet to notice me as he stares fixated on our black and white TV as cartoons play.
"Morning buddy." I say walking up to him.
He turns his head and smiles toothly at me. "Is it time for school?" He asks tiredly and I laugh shaking my head.
Oh god, how am I going to explain this for a six-year-old? "No.. Listen, Maxy, I got offered a job but that means we got to go, right now, do you think you can pack a bag real quick and brush your teeth for me, like a big boy?" I ask, kneeling down in front of him as he bobs his head up and down excitably.
"Okay!" He yells before jumping off the bed and grabbing the new red backpack I bought him, ever since he has taken it with him everywhere and brings it with him in every room he enters.
I take a deep breath and calm my thoughts as I do the same, I pack some clothes, as much as I can fit inside my small shoulder bag. David said that we didn't need to bring anything and that Mr. Sullivan had already prepared everything for us, from clothes to toiletries and more, basically anything we needed I just needed to ask for they will deliver.
Max appears dressed in his pajama top and school trousers and his brand new sneakers with his puffy winter coat on as he grips onto his red backpack, he's grinning widely at me. "All done?" I ask, chuckling at how hard he tried to dress.
He puts his thumb up and stands in his favorite superhero pose." Ready!"
I laugh and take his hand as I walk with him towards the front door, grabbing my phone, purse, and keys before I leave through the front door.
This is it, no turning back now... oh god, I hope whoever this Austin guy is isn't really just giving me a job so he can sell me into slavery or murder me, even though he said he was just a normal guy.
If he's a normal guy then I must be a wealthy woman, HA, yeah right.
After I lock the door, me and Max make our way towards the limo, and seeing it up close is even more insane than seeing it in a magazine or from afar, the limo is the most luxurious car I've ever seen, nevermind sat in, I have never seen someone so beautiful so close to me before.
"Wooaahhhh.." Max says amazed as I walk us towards the limo and the man who stands holding the door open for us.
"Good morning Miss Clark, I'm Stev your driver, I will be escorting you from now on." He says introducing himself and I shake his hand, to which he awkwardly shakes but smiles warmly at me.
"HELLO!" Max yells out excited to the driver and I grimace but Stev just smiles widely at Max.
"Hello young master, please, sit. Our destination is a little while away, there is food and drinks in the back, help yourselves." Stev says politely with a warm smile as I nod and Max giggles as he jumps into the limo.
I thank him and get inside to sit beside Max, Stev closes the door. My eyes finally adjust to my surroundings and I finally see how incredibly the inside truly is, I'm scared to even move just encase I scratch, mark or break anything in this expensive limo.
There is a rather large minibar positioned in front of us, filled with wine, snacks, sandwiches and soda's and Max helps himself as he takes out a can of Pepsi Max and I look inside and get him a chicken sandwich, that looks freshly made and hand it to him and then I open the Pepsi for him and place it in the cupholder.
Okay, this is not normal, definitely not normal, but act normal.
The car is quiet for the longest time as I get lost in my thoughts until I hear the sound of a TV playing. I pull myself from my thoughts and stop gazing outside the window as I look at Max to see in front of us that a TV had come up from the floor of the limo and Max somehow found it and turned it on, immediately onto the kid's channel.
I have no words but...
Oh. my. god.
Who the hell is Austin Sullivan?!

Highest rank #1 in Historical He glared at me with irritation. "Come inside!" ...And I did. He pointed to the stack of books on the floor. "Pick them up and arrange them the way they're supposed to."With trembling hands, I did what he asked quickly. Fret in the way I moved, picking up the books into my arms and lap one by one only for them to fall back on the floor over and over. I was a mess, upset, and it was obvious. This wasn't the kind of first meeting I dreamed of.The second prince was mean, and he was irritable. He had no clue who I am which made me resent it even more.He scowled as he watched me made mistakes after mistakes and after a while, he grew frustrated and bent over, picking the books himself."Forgive me, I didn't mean to snarl at you the way I did. I'm not used to being distracted. No one ever walks in my office unless they have my permission. I don't even know how the guardsmen let you in." I wanted to say because unlike you, they recognized who I am. But I kept my mouth shut in fear of aggravating his anger. This man was so impolite to me that I couldn't wait to get away from him."I apologize, your highness. I didn't mean to distract you in your private office." I stepped back getting ready to leave when a sliver of sunlight struck highlighting my face. "Wait!" He murmured and I turned back to look at him."You're beautiful." He said breathlessly.I would have blushed, but he was so mean and rude to me that his compliment lost its impact long ago."I need to go," I told him."Wait." A wave of panic rose in the tide of his voice. The prince was afraid to lose me. "What's your name, girl?" He asked quickly. "Jasmine, my name is Jasmine, your highness.""My Jasmine?"
