《For Life》3. Establishing grounds

Pulling up my pants I move away from the desk. Laura the secretary, her legs shake as she begins to pull up her tights and skirt, I watch her bored as I light up a cigarette from my pocket.
I sit on the windowsill and stare at nothing in particular, same old shit, birds, cars, clouds. Nothing ever changes, fucking Laura has to be the only thing that almost makes me feel human in here.
I close my eyes and take a deep breath. "Satisfied? Now give what I asked for." I say hard, opening my eyes to stare at the woman nodding her head, going behind her desk.
She grabs a file and comes over to me and hands it to me, taking it off her hands I skim the words on the front.
'Rose Clark'
Opening the file the first thing I see is that she's young, surprisingly young.
Her photo alone doesn't do her justice though, she looks like she's had to grow up fast, living on the streets can do that to a kid, men or women, it's either survives or die out there, this Rose Clark knows it best due to these records.
"Is this everything?" I ask, staring down at Laura.
She nods her head and gets a cigarette from my pocket, she puts it between her lips and leans forward towards me, I take my cigarette out of my mouth and light hers up with mine.
"That's all, why the sudden interest in a nobody?" She says hinting towards the girl in the photo.
Good question. The fucking number I got, I must've definitely put the wrong number in, that fucking pencil must have smudged and I whatever number I typed it, went straight to little miss Rose.
Ever since, I've been curious, simply curious and nothing more to who she was, I'm getting beyond bored in this prison, being the boss in here has it's perks but I'm still a prisoner, nothing about that is changing anytime soon.
"None of your fucking business." I say deadly, as I glare at her. "The money will be in your account tonight, now fuck off." I say annoyed, not looking at her but at the photo of the young woman, I hear the door close, leaving me alone in the room going through the file.
Rose Clark hmm, let's see who you are.
It says here she's Twenty Seven, has no living relatives other than her little brother Max who is 7. She grew up in the system until she was 18, she has full custody of her little brother, after that there is a time skip, a few part-time jobs, nothing too serious until a few months ago, meaning she was on the streets for a few years until she landed a job at a diner.
She was let go last week due to cutbacks, meaning her source of income is practically pennies at this point in time, unless she had somehow gotten a new job so soon in this shithole of a city.
But the main thing that intrigues me is how careless she is, there's no doubt she's an attractive young woman, striking, beautiful, smart, and caring, she puts others before her, especially her brother, which I assume why she is doing all of this.

Hmm. Well. I'll admit, I'm interested in this girl, and I feel somewhat bad for her, I know exactly what she is going through.
My parents were gone all my life, my old man was murdered and my bitch of a mom passed from drugs, I spent my whole life in the streets until I made a name for myself, it's tough alone, and this young woman did it with while looking out for her younger brother, it's admirable.
I put out my cigarette on the wall and flick it on Laura's desk, after I put the file in the shredder, watching as the picture of Rose is shredded into pieces, an unknown feeling washes over me and I feel.. excited, for unknown reasons, I want to know more about her.
I leave the office once the file has been completely shredded, I don't need fucking Bishop digging into anything, not even the CIA could get anything to do with my life out of me.
I pass Laura without looking at her as I nod towards the guard who sighs and instructs for me to turn around, arms behind my back, I turn to face Laura, giving her a wink as the guard puts handcuffs back on me.
I think of this Rose as I'm being led back to my cell, there's something about her that is piquing my interest way too much, I don't feel that sorry for her, sure id definitely fuck her, but it's something else.
The metal door beeps open and I'm being escorted back down my cellblock towards my cell. My cell door opens and without being told I wait for the doors to close, move backwards and stick my hands out the bars to get the cuffs off. Honestly, it's the same shit, for someone like me, being told is exhausting when I know exactly how shit goes down in here.
That's why I rule this shit, guards can play it cool, but at the end of the fucking day, I am paying their wage. I can leave here any time I want, but being I'm here is somewhat calming to me, stress-free if I dare say, nothing waits for me on the outside, might as well enjoy my time on the inside.
I nod to Danny who grimaces at me once I pass him to get my cell. "Fuck man, why did that bitch have to smell like my Cindy?" He says groaning out annoyed and I laugh.
"Did you text the right number for me?" I ask, turning to glance at Dan as my phone turns on.
He raises a brow and nods. "Yeah, course man, we need to get a pen up in here, your writing sucks man, cant read shit you write." He says as I kick his leg, making him fall of the chair.
"Asshole." He grunts out as I ignore him and nod towards the bars.
He moves to keep a lookout as I begin to type a text to Rose Clark.
what u up to?
I lean against the wall near the loose brick and wait for her reply, it takes a few minutes but she eventually texts back and I smirk at my phone as I read her text.

Yes, why are you still texting me? You got no one else to be rude to?
She's a firecracker, I find it amusing as I play along, liking the feeling of talking to someone that has nothing to do with what I do in here. I text back grinning.
nah i got plenty, u still texting me bk, you must like me being rude to u
I tap my foot and wait for her reply, which comes 20 seconds later.
You are so arrogant. Who are you anyway? Why won't you leave me alone
i'm bored and u are fun to annoy & you can call me Austin
Her reply comes instant and it makes me laugh out loud.
Well Austin, I can't entertain you and your small dick, I have work to find, not all of us have time to be bored
Danny looks at me amused as I glare at him and text one of my guys who handle one of my many offshore accounts I hid from authorities, instructing him to deposit anonymously 50,000 into Rose Clark's account.
I text her back quickly as Danny hints to speed it up, I hear the metal gate beep from down the hall, meaning I only have thirty seconds.
trust me love, i'm anything but small. i gotta run, see u later Rose Oliva Clark
I quickly hit send and turn off my phone, putting it back into the wall, covering it with the brick. I stand up and lean against the wall and watch as the guard walks past, one that's not on my payroll, the new fish guard has a stickler for rules, one that's going to cost him in here.
I kiss my lips at him as he passes, my eyes hard, he glares at me before walking past my cell and on to the next one.
All the cell doors open meaning roll call before we head out to the yard, me and Danny go to stand in line outside of our cell and wait for our names to be called out.
"AUSTIN SILVER." Rookie guard yells and I roll my eyes.
"Here." I say with a yawn as I notice the scowl on his face, making me stare into his eyes hard.
Is he challenging me? He moves onto the next guy and I watch him like a hawk, knowing that I'm making him uncomfortable, another guard I have on payroll shakes his head at me and I simply smile darkly back, making the air around me thick.
Roll call goes by in a flash and we make it out to the yard, everything is the same, gangs and split in their according groups. Being affiliated here is like high school, you need your people or you're simply fucked, prison is no exception, only worse.
Gangs are sorted by race and religious and political views. Once you get in prison, you need to figure out immediately who is affiliated and who is not, you need to be observant.
Yard time is like being at the zoo, yet every single creature is in the same yard as you, someone is always bigger than you, and having them square up in your face in front of all those creatures can only mean you are the weakest of the animals.
My point is, we are all animals surviving together for our own survival, once we out it's back to killing each other.
"Ey Silver my man, what's new bro?" Ronnie asks, coming up next to me and I raise a brow at him.
"When the fuck did you get out?" I ask, hinting at solitary confinement he's been in since fuck knows when.
Ronnie counts on his fingers and I keep my eyes on the group giving me very suggestive looks as they shift, their eyes moving to the guards and back to me, I look over to my gang and they noticed, smirking at me at what's about to go down.
"Err well lets see, one, two..-"
"Stand back Ronnie." I say clicking my neck and taking my shirt off, wrapping it around my fists, showing my tattoos off proudly as the gang that was eyeing me begin to stand and group together, heading my way and wrapping their shirts in their fists the same way.
Ronnie nods wearily and moves away skitterish as I watch Toby's crew pull shivs from their waistband, I watch amused as they run in my direction, preparing myself I see two other gangs going in towards them from the back, not surprised by the not to obvious change, I walk up to one guy and wrap my arm around his neck, my hand covering his mouth.
I squeeze his neck and turn his head hard, causing him to cry and yell out in pain as I finally snap his neck, dropping his lifeless body onto the ground, blood spilling from his eyes.
The prison alarms go off and we are open fired upon by the prison's tower snipers, bullets shoot at our feet and everyone in the yard get down on the ground, the fighting has somewhat stopped, apart from two who kept fighting and got a bullet in their head.
The two now dead guys fall to the ground and the sound of dogs barking and whistles can be heard as the prison alarm sounds throughout the prison, putting us on lockdown as guards and dogs swarm the prison yards. I see guards throw smoke bombs inside the yard as they begin to enter through the locked gate.
I turn my head and look to see Danny with blood covered his face with a smirk as he looks at me amused, I shake my head, knowing full well I got no blood on me, just the death of a banger who thought he could pull one up on me.
In here, it's kill or be killed, just like inside the zoo if you put all the animals together, you cant expect shit not to go down.
Nobody expects animals to be on their best behavior, not even the most powerful ones, we all get a little bored and crazy sometimes, but this shit is bad for my business, meaning someone has to pay for making such a mess of my free time, after all, it's important to me.
Toby and his crew will learn that the hard way, MY way.
