"Shruti?" Aditi called my name and I hummed in response while keeping my gaze on my files. "If you don't remember, party is at five. Cancel all your plans, if you have some."
"I don't have any. It's one of our important days."
"Shruti!" Parth barged inside the room and I widened my eyes. "What's the venue of party?"
"How would I know? Wasn't it your duty?"
"Me? It was on you. I have the bills of food and Aditi is going for the karaoke." He said and I turned to Aditi, who nodded.
"I forgot."
"You forgot!" They shouted in unison and I sighed. "You know it's such an important day for us. Aditi managed to pass the school in the same batch as ours, after so many hardships. How could you forget the day this miracle happened?!" Parth said and Aditi flamed in anger. I chuckled and she glared at me.
"Don't worry. I'll head out to find the venue, now. Okay?"
"Now?"
"Yeah. My work is almost over." I said and packed my purse to head out. The restaurant which we chose last year was entirely booked. Travelling through the city, I stumbled upon a restaurant which had a cabin unbooked for evening with great deals. Thank God!
Making the bookings, I sat in my car and started the engine.
Wait!
Rishabh's office is nearby.
Should I go?
I've never visited his office. Actually, I came here once, before our wedding. But Rishabh was out for some work then. Mumma and papa visited his workplace to check on their son-in-law and his financial status before our wedding.
Taking a deep sigh, I drove to his office to surprise him. Stepping inside the building, I was about to go the lift but stopped after remembering that I didn't know his room. I didn't even know the floor?!
Seeing someone sitting in the reception, I walked to the receptionist to ask about Rishabh.
"Excuse me."
"Yes."
"Is Rishabh in the office?" I asked and he nodded while keeping his eye on the computer screen. "Can you tell me the floor on which his room his?" I asked and he looked up.
"Do you have an appointment?"
"Umm... I don't."
"Ma'am, you need to have an appointment first."
"I'm his wife." I said and he chuckled. "What? I'm serious."
"I've seen many women using this tactic in the last company I worked." He said and I shook my head in disbelief. I took my phone out of my purse and showed him our wedding photos. "They can be photoshopped too." He said and I widened my eyes.
Which fool in this world would spend so much time, just to create a fake photo?
"Wait a minute." I spoke and showed him our marriage certificate in my phone. "Is this fake too?"
"No... I'm sorry for making you wait. He's on the fourth floor. Please don't complain about me."
"I won't. Infact you did your job the best you could. Keep it up." I gave him a thumbs up and went to the third floor through elevator. Checking the titles of all the rooms, I found his room and sighed.

I slowly opened the door and saw him being drowned in work.
"A cup of coffee, thanks." He said while keeping his gaze on the sheet.
"Where's the cafeteria?" I asked and he looked up. As soon as he saw me, he stood up and walked towards me.
"Sorry, I thought that-"
"No, it's alright."
"You're here? Is everything fine?"
"Yes. I was just passing by. So, I thought to give you a surprise." I said and he replied in an oh. "You want coffee?"
"No." He said and I chuckled.
"I think I should leave. It's already four-"
"Ten minutes?"
"Huh?" I asked and he stepped towards me. Slithering his hand around my waist, he placed a kiss on my cheek and picked me up as if I was light as feather.
But I'm quite heavy.
Atleast that's what the weighing machine says.
"Just ten minutes." He said and placed me on his table. Pouring water in a glass, he gave it to me and I raised my eyebrows. "It's the first time you're here and it's my duty to help my guest." He said and I chuckled while sipping water.
After finishing, I kept the glass on table and turned to Rishabh who was standing beside me, leaning on the table. "Rishabh?"
"Hmm."
"Should I leave?"
"Wait." He said in hurry and stood in front of me. "Ugh... Can I kiss you?" He asked and I widened my mouth in surprise. Why would someone ask this? He placed his index finger beneath my chin and closed my mouth.
As he chuckled, I found myself smiling.
"So-" Before he could say anything, I pulled him by his collar and placed my lips on his. I was dying to do this after seeing him in the blue shirt since morning! As he deepened the kiss, I glid my arms around his back and tried wrapping my legs around him, but failed terribly.
Damn this saree!
As he trailed his lips down my neck, a stupid phone rang out of nowhere and disturbed our moment. "You should pick it up." I said and he made a grumpy face while picking the call.
"Yeah... Postpone it... I'll be there in five minutes." He said over the phone and hung the call. Looking straight into my eyes, he spoke up, "There's an urgent meeting. I need to go."
"It's okay."
"No, it's no-"
"It's perfectly fine. Let's leave." I said and got down from the table. I was on the way to go out but my gaze fell on a mirror which showed me my look. My lipstick was smudged and my neck had red marks similar to my lip colour. "Wait!"
"What's the matter?"
I rushed towards his table and pulled out a couple of tissues. Rubbing the colour off my mouth and neck, I walked to him and wiped the same off his lips.
"It's okay now."
"When should I pick you up?"
"Around nine." I mumbled and he nodded. Out of a sudden, he pecked my lips and I widened my eyes. "Rishabh!" I shouted and he chuckled.
"Let's go."
✨
"I hate you...." Aditi shouted the last line of her song and sighed while keeping the mic down. "That was good."

"For which boyfriend of yours was this song dedicated to?" I asked while biting a pizza slice and Parth rolled his eyes.
"All the ones who acted as if I was their world. They acted! It was not true!"
"You mean the one whom you met on a blind date three years ago and broke up with him when you found that he was double timing on you?"
"There was no another girl in the picture. They were in total ten in number. That piece of shit had an audacity to ask me out as his eleventh girlfriend! But, wait, no... This song wasn't just about him. It was about all the boys I met in my life, who were not worth of my love and trust." Aditi concluded and Parth clapped. "What?"
"That's the reason I tell you to think about me. I'm not like them. I'm far mo-"
"Shut. Up." Aditi said and I chuckled. "So, anything else in the plan?" She asked and we shook our heads in negative. "Let's retire to our homes then."
Hearing my phone ringing, I picked it up immediately as it was Rishabh's call.
"I'm out. How much time would it take?"
"We're done. I'll be there just in a minute." I said and hung the call. "I'll get going. Rishabh is here."
"Go on and win the battle!" Aditi exclaimed and Parth laughed.
"Shut up!" I said while controlling myself from blushing and clutched my purse before walking out. Seeing Rishabh's car parked out, I immediately rushed towards it and opened the door to sit in.
"How was the party?"
"Good. Aditi tore my eardrum while singing. She's such a terrible singer."
"What about you?"
"I... I'm not a bad singer. I sing well." I said and he laughed. "Why are you laughing?"
"Nothing. Well, do you have enough space in your stomach to have an ice-cream?"
"Ofcourse. Is that even a thing to ask?" I exclaimed and he nodded before going out. He came back with two cones of ice-creams and I snatched them from him immediately.
"One's mine." He said while sitting on his seat and I passed him a cone, keeping the butterscotch flavour with me. "The one in your hand is mine." He said and exchanged our cones.
"Why would you eat butterscotch ice-cream?" I asked and checked the flavour of the one in my hand, "And, why would I have vanilla flavour?"
"I need to know what's good in this flavour to be my wife's favourite. You can try it too." He suggested and I tore the paper off my cone. As the chilled cream touched my taste buds, I closed my eyes to feel the goddess in it. Despite being a plain and classic flavour, it was delicious.
"It's good." I said while controlling my teeth from teetering.
"Butterscotch is good too." He smiled and I nodded.
Reaching home, I unlocked the main door and walked inside while Rishabh was parking the car. I switched the main lights on and walked to the stairs to go to our room.
"Wait!" Hearing Rishabh's voice, I turned back and saw him coming in my direction. "Where are you going?"
"To our room." I said and he replied in an oh. "What's the matter?"
"Nothing." He sighed and accompanied me to the stairs. He raised his head in a sudden movement and spoke, "Well, there is one actually. Don't go to the terrace."
"Why?"
"Just don't."
"But why?"
"No questions to be asked." He said and walked ahead, leaving me behind.
Is there a surprise on the terrace?
Or an anaconda?
If there was a surprise, why did he even tell me?
Just to anticipate me?!
Holding my saree, I ran up to match his pace. Before he could enter the bathroom, I rushed inside and closed the door on his face. "Shruti?" I heard Rishabh's voice as I washed my face. "You'll take more time. Let me use the bathroom first."
Paying no heed to his words, I used the toilet and stepped out, where I saw him sitting on the couch. "You can go." I said and he nodded.
On the way to washroom, he stopped in his tracks and spoke, "Wait. Where are you going?"
"Closet, to change my clothes." I said and he shook his head before going in. Without getting changed into comfortable clothes, I rushed out and ascended the stairs to terrace.
As I opened the door, a cool rush of air struck my face. Just when I was about to step out, I was pulled inside.
"What were you doing? I clearly told you not to come here. You're really a traitor!"
"What do you think I could do? It was your fault to tell me about it. I mean, it's a human tendency, I can't help."
"Human tendency! You lied about changing your clothes too." He said and I smiled sheepishly. "I..."
"Hmm?"
"I don't know if you would like it or not." He scratched the back of his neck and mumbled, "I'm seriously not good at these things. But, I'll try."
These things?
I'm sure it's a surprise!
He showed me the way with his hands and I shook my head before walking out in the open sky. He switched the lights on and I saw the arrangements he did.
Not bad.
"I told y-"
"It's good. It's really beautiful." I said and he raised his eyebrows in question. "Thank you." I mumbled while nodding in positive and he smiled.
Uff... That smile!
"May I have a dance with my wife?" He asked and I couldn't control myself from smiling. It was really happening! It felt as if I had returned to my teenage, when I wished this to happen.
How I used to wish for a dance, where I'd be paired with him!
But nothing like that ever happened!
I shook my head and he switched a soft music on before pulling me gently towards him. His arms went around my waist while mine were settled around his neck in an instant.
"Don't you think the neighbours would see us?" I asked as they do nothing but poke their nose in other's special moments.
"Practically not. Only a few houses have the height similar to ours, rest are shorter. As for them, it's the time for dinner. Moreover, we're just dancing." He said in his butter smooth voice and I nodded.
Without sharing any words, I leaned my head on his chest and closed my eyes.
The moment was serene.
And he was my home.
