"Papa!" I exclaim, "No. This is my boss. My boss."

"Oh, that doesn't mean anything." He dad says with a wave of his hand. "My daughter is beautiful, yeah?" He says proudly. I could fucking die right now and be perfectly fine with it.

"Muy hermoso." Grayson replies quickly, only glancing at me briefly.

Very beautiful. My stomach flutters at the words that leave his mouth. They only stop when I realize that he's only saying this because my dad is standing right in front of us.

"Okay, you need to leave." I tell my dad with an embarrassed laugh. "Gracias, papa. Now leave." I say, standing up from the booth and guiding him away from our table.

As we walk away my dad finally says, "If you aren't with him, then you should be with Jose. He always asks about you." He reminds me.

"Dad, no. I'm not seeing anyone. And that's my boss you were just speaking to! The owner of the startup company. That was so embarrassing." I groan.

"That's what parents are for." He laughs, giving me one last hug before walking through the doorway to the kitchen. I walk back to the table and see Grayson looking at the sizzling food in front of him.

"I am so sorry. That was painful to sit through." I groan as I take my seat.

"Why?" He asks, handing me one of the plates on the table.

"My dad can just be...well, you saw. I'm sorry." I apologize.

"They seem nice." He tells me.

"They're embarrassing." I laugh.

"Aren't all parents?" He asks.

"Are yours?" I counter.

"Something like that." He tells me. When I look over, I see him eyeballing the tray warily.

"It's really good, I promise. Have you had fajitas before?" I ask. As I begin to wonder if this was a dumb question, I quickly remember that this is also the same guy who had never tasted guacamole before.

"No." He says.

"You're going to love them. You can make your own little tacos out of them. See, the tortillas are in this little container here." I say, opening the lid on the little red container holding the warm flour and corn tortillas. "There is flour and corn. They know that I like the corn ones, but they brought you some flour just incase." I add.

He nods and looks over at the other plate.

"Then, you have the limes, lettuce, tomato, some cheese, and sour cream on this plate. You can add whatever you want on top. Oh, and over here is some of our homemade salsa. It's pretty spicy, so that's why my mom asked if you liked spicy stuff." I explain.

"I love spicy food." He tells me, placing his fork into the pile of chicken and trying a piece. "This is really good." He says.

"I'm glad you think so." I smile. "I'm glad you like spicy food, too. My brother's wife can't stand spicy food. So, family dinners at our house are always pretty difficult." I laugh. I almost forget about the entire ordeal with my brother and his wife, but feel an rush of sadness pass over me at the memory.

"Your brother...he's married?" Grayson asks.

"Yeah. For about two years now." I smile. "They're getting ready to have a baby." I add.

"My brother and his wife just had a baby, too." He says with a little nod.

"Oh yeah? Is that their first kid?" I ask.

"Second. They have a son. He's about five." He tells me.

"That's awesome. So you're an uncle." I say with a smile.

"I am." He nods. "And you're going to be an aunt." He adds.

"Yeah. I probably won't see them too much, though." I shrug. "You know, because they're halfway across the states." I laugh.

"Oh yeah." He says, taking another bite of his food.

"So are you close with your siblings?" I ask.

"My sister and I are. My brother and I aren't really." He shrugs.

"Why?"

"We're just different, I guess."

"Well, at least you have your sister. Does she live in LA?" I ask.

"No. She's in Wisconsin for school." He tells me. "She comes to visit sometimes, but she won't be home for awhile. School is busy right now."

"Wisconsin. America's Dairyland." I say awkwardly. America's Dairyland? What in the hell is wrong with me.

To my surprise, Grayson laughs at this and it's the first time I've heard him genuinely laugh at something I've said. I laugh in reply, still cringing at my stupid comment.

"That's what I tell her all of the time." He says, taking another bite of food.

Just as I'm about to speak, Jose comes up to the table.

"Let me get you some more water." He says, lifting my glass and pouring more water quickly. "Hey, I'm really sorry for whatever Ivan said to you." He says, shaking his head.

"What?" I ask.

"You know...about the date." He says.

"Oh, no. We're not on a date." I say, quickly. "This is my boss." I say.

"Oh, no. I knew that...I meant about you and me..." He says nervously, grabbing Grayson's glass and pouring the water.

"Oh." I say, feeling the flush rise to my cheeks.

"He didn't even say anything did you? God, I'm sorry." He says, quickly shaking his head.

"No! He did...I just didn't know that we were talking about that." I say, mentally cringing again. When I look over at Grayson, he's staring at Jose intently. He almost looks...upset?

"I'll leave you two alone then. But...it would be really nice to catch up with you sometime." He tells me.

"Yeah, of course. I know I haven't been around as much ever since I quit...but, I'll shoot you a text sometime and we can go and get drinks or something." I offer, knowing that there is no way I'm going to go through with it.

"Yeah, for sure." He says. "Anyways, I have to get back to work. I'll see you later, Nat." He says, waving goodbye as he walks away.

The table is silent once again, but it isn't the calming silence that has been happening lately. This silence is tense and awkward.

"He seems nice." Grayson says as he sets his fork down on his plate.

"He is." I say quietly. "But I'm not really interested in him." I say.

"Why?" He asks.

"He's not my type." I shrug.

"Oh." He says, nodding his head.

We are silent for a few moments longer as we both take slow bites of our food.

"And what is your type?" He asks after what must be a two minute long silence.

"I'm not sure. Maybe...someone who just understands me?" I say, almost doubting my own response. "What about you? What is your type?" I ask. When I look up, he's sitting and pondering the question.

"I don't have one." He answers finally.

"Everyone has a type." I reply.

"Not me." He shrugs. "I don't really date, though." He adds.

"Oh? Why not?" I ask. I don't know how we managed to get this deep into a conversation like this, but I'm too curious to stop it now.

"I don't really get out much. I go to work and then I go home. I sometimes go running with Shane in the morning. But other than that, that's it." He tells me.

"Then why don't you just get out more?" I ask.

"It's not that easy."

"It kind of is, though." I reply.

"Not for me." He shrugs.

I leave the conversation at that, and change the subject quickly. Something about the seriousness of it all just isn't sitting right. Well, not right now, at least.

I see my mom walking towards us with a large smile on her face as she sees the empty plates in front of us.

"The food was good, yeah?" She asks Grayson with bright eyes.

"It was amazing. Gracias." He tells her with a small smile.

"I'm so glad you two came to eat." She says, holding her hands together as she speaks. "It's on us." She adds.

"Oh, no. I can pay." Grayson says, pulling his wallet out of his pocket.

"No, no, no! It was our treat!" She says, swatting his hands from his wallet.

"It's really no problem, ma'am." He tells her, trying to hand her his card.

She takes his card, hands it to me, and I hand it back over to him.

"We're just glad Natalia brought her new boss to come and eat. She loves her new job! She tells us how much better it is than waiting tables." My mom tells him with a smile.

"She's a great engineer." He tells her, offering me a smile. I smile in reply and feel the blush rushing back to my cheeks. His eyes are so bright, and I could truly stare into them for hours. I quickly shake this away as I notice, to my own horror, that I am staring into them. How long have I been staring at him?

"We should probably go ahead and get back to the office." I say, standing up from my seat.

"Yes." He replies, standing with me.

"Gracias, Mama. Te amo." I say, giving her a quick hug.

"De nada. Come back and see us any time! It was lovely having you, Grayson." She responds. To the two of us.

Grayson gives her another smile and a quick nod as we leave the restaurant. As we head back to the office, there's only the sound of the soft music playing in the background. Neither one of us seems to mind this silence, though.

When we walk back into the building and head upstairs, I can see a small smile playing on Grayson's lips. I can feel the same smile on my own as we walk in silence.

"Thank you for inviting me to lunch today." Grayson says, his voice filling the empty space.

"Of course. Thank you for going with me. Lunch gets lonely sometimes." I tell him.

"Yeah. Maybe we can-" His voice is cut off by a high pitched voice just ahead of us.

"Honey, i'm home!" When I look away from Grayson, I notice the voice came from one of the prettiest girls I have ever seen.

Her long blonde hair cascades down her back, soft curls lifting some of it's length. She's taller than me, but she can't be too much taller. However, she is fit and tan.

"Sofia? What are you doing here?" Grayson asks, walking ahead of me and towards the girl. When I see his face, it has the biggest smile in the world. He goes in to hug her and she hugs him back, arms wrapped around her neck. Despite being taller than me, we're both still much shorter than him. She's standing on his tip-toes just to reach him comfortably. Instead of acknowledging me, he leads her to his office and closes the door behind him, leaving me completely alone on the hallways and instantly forgotten.

This must be the girl that Brian has seen come and visit him. Whoever this girl is, she's absolutely gorgeous and has Grayson's full attention. Of course that would be his type. For the guy who claims he doesn't have a type, he seems to go for the girls that almost every guy wants to be with. Of course the second that the gorgeous blonde with a nice body calls for him, i'm completely forgotten.

"Whatever." I mutter to myself as I go to my office and close the door, locking it behind me. I'm an idiot for believing that someone like Grayson Parker would want to go for someone like me. The fact that this girl is probably rich and well known is much more than anything I could offer. That's the kind of person Grayson should be with, and i'm an idiot for even entertaining the idea that it could ever be me.

As I look out of my office window and into the hallway, I see the two leaving his office. Her arm is wrapped around his waist as they walk, and she looks up at him as he talks.

At this point, the only thing I know is that I completely despise this girl.
