《Alpha Cravings》Chapter 21 Funeral

After my long day yesterday, I thought I would be able to get the sleep that I needed but no, I was awake tossing and turning for most of the night. I’m sure it was because I spent the night on the floor on my mattress. Damon had linked me late yesterday afternoon that my bed would be a day or two away. My wolf also went crazy that her mate hadn’t been beside her for a couple of days. Letting out a sigh I hopped out of bed and headed to my shower.
Dressing in a long black winter dress, stockings, long down jacket, and putting on black boots I sat looking in my mirror debating how to do my hair. I decided to just lightly curl it. Applying just the barest amount of makeup as more would only be a waste, I hoped and prayed that I was going to be strong enough to get through today.
I didn’t feel like eating once I got to the kitchen. The thought alone had my belly churning. Mum came down the stairs, dressed in black slacks, white shirt, black woollen jumper, scarf, jacket and black boots. Her hair was left down and she had no makeup on. Mum didn’t feel like eating either, so the pair of us settled on a cup of tea. The kitchen was very quiet without dad. His un-opened newspaper from days prior still sat on the table. I choke back a lump that had formed in my throat as I wipe away a tear. I sneak a peek at mum who’s eyes are fixated on the fridge looking at a recent photo of her and dad as they looked into each other’s eyes. I’m surprised when she smiles at the memory. “I miss your dad so much Phoebe, it hurts.” I hear her as her voice starts to crack and sound toneless and quiet. She then turned to me; I could see she looked really tired, sighing she drops her head. I quickly stand and walk to her, wrapping my arms around her, we stand there silently trying to comfort one other. Pulling away from each other, mum informs me that she is going to go and get dads favourite flowers and will meet me at the pack house in 30 minutes.
Standing on the front porch the air smelt clean but felt really icy on my exposed cheeks with the new snow that had fallen over night. Thick grey altostratus clouds have completely covered the sky. It will surely snow again soon. A freezing cold breeze was blowing through the trees, disturbing the snow that had fallen. I huddled in my long winter jacket as I made my way down the steps. The crunching of my footsteps hitting the snow was the only sound heard as I walked to the pack house.
Entering the pack house I’m greeted by Melissa, Violet and Tania. Drawing me into their arms as each of them gave me a cuddle and expressed their condolences to me. Wiping at my misty eyes, I thanked them trying not to break down. Sounding a bit croaky, I quietly ask, “Do any of you know where Damon is? He has blocked the mind link.”
“He has gone with his dad to get the funeral celebrant. They should almost be back." answered Melissa.
“Sorry for the loss of your dad, Luna” A pack member by the name of Jane shrieked while being chased by her mate as she ran past running into the games room.
Jacob came barrelling down the stairs scratching at his arms before engulfing me in his big strong arms. “I’m here for you today baby doll. I also promise, no pranks.” He whispers lowly in my ear before heading towards the kitchen obviously to get more food.

Damon, his father and an old greying man aged around 60 dressed in a black suite entered the pack house. “Phoebe, meet Mr Plummer. The Funeral Celebrant" announced Jason, as they walked towards me. Shaking my hand Mr Plummer expressed how sorry he was on the loss of my dad and meeting me on such sad circumstances.
“Where is Elvia? Phoebe.” Jason asks. ”She’s on her way she just had to go grab some flowers for the coffin.”
“Ok I will get Ava to meet her, when she gets here.” replied Jason as he turns and leads Mr Plummer in to the kitchen for some refreshments.
Damon yells out after him “I’m going to go up and change into my suit. If you need me I will come straight after.” as he grabs my hand taking me with him.
Closing the door in his suite Damon pulls me into his hard chest. Tilting my head up, he brushes his lips against mine in a slow kiss. My wolf happy to be with her mate again, as she now stands up wagging her tail.
“I missed you last night.” he admits to me as he breaks the kiss. “Edmund was really restless last night, I fought to keep him under control he wanted you in our arms.”
“Ella was as well” I tell him. “But I needed to be with mum more.” I confess.
He looks me in the eye “don’t feel bad my love, it was your dad you lost. I know if it was my dad, I probably would have done the same thing. I understand why you didn’t want me there I really do.” He tells me being honest.
He moves into the bedroom I follow. Looking around I notice the renovations are all most done. Then I notice the bed I picked out at the shop yesterday. Feeling a bit confused I ask “Damon isn’t that the bed I picked out yesterday?”
“Yes, it arrived a while ago, the delivery men got confused on the delivery address. I will gather some men after your dad’s service to take it over.” he says looking through his closet.
“No, it’s fine. It looks better in here anyway” I answer truthfully.
“Does that mean you're staying here from now on?” Damon questions me.
“Yes. Home doesn’t feel the same anymore.” I answer as I walk towards the bed and sit down on the end of it.
“What suit?” he asks holding out a dark blue and a black one. “I like the dark blue one.” I tell him. Putting the black one away he goes into the bathroom. “Follow mate” my wolf pleads in my head.
Following Damon, a short time later into the bathroom to satisfy my horny wolf we hungrily watch as he lathers the soap onto his body. “Like what you see princess.” he asks catching me ogling him. My wolf comes forward and lowly growls in approval at her mate. Taking back control, I voice my displeasure at her at the inappropriate time for such behaviour.
Damon steps out of the shower, I can't help but watch as water droplets run down his chest. My wolf licks at her lips. Turning away I exit the bathroom and make my way back to sit on the bed waiting for Damon to finish dressing.
Making our way on foot through the snow to the pack's private graveyard, both mum and I are quite surprised on how many pack members braved the weather to attend dad's graveside funeral service.

Chairs were set in place for mum, myself and Damon and his parents. Every other pack member stood. As mum took a seat beside Ava, I sat beside her, Damon beside me, ‘Dancing in the sky’ was playing as we waited for the celebrant. Dad was like me an only child and both Grandpa and Grandma were deceased.
My eyes strayed to the coffin that held my father. Mum had combined lilies and red roses for the top of the casket. With single ones in baskets for anyone who would like to place one on top of him.
Mr Plummer approaches the front of the coffin, and proceeds.
“Thank you everyone for attending the life of Mr Leo Wall. Please accept my sympathy for your loss. I've heard from everyone that Leo was a great man. My deepest condolences go to Leo's wife Elvia and his daughter Phoebe, who he tragically left behind. Now he is back home with the moon goddess watching over you both, waiting for the day he will get to reunite with you once again.
I couldn’t stop the tears as ‘Jealous of the Angels’ started playing. I felt Damon as he grabbed my hand rubbing in soothing circular motions. Looking through my teary eyes I see that Ava has hold of my mother's hand, both of them crying. Jason had the inner corners of his eyebrows raised, his eyelids loose and the corners of his lips pulled down. He looked away when he caught my eye but not before I seen a tear slide down his cheek. Damon also has a few tears running down his cheeks. I looked up as I felt hands on my shoulders to see Jacob, Tessa and the rest of my friends standing behind me they too wore sad expressions on their faces.
I noticed that Jacob was scratching at himself through his clothes before focusing my attention back on Mr Plummer who was ready to speak again.
“Now is the time to dry those tears and think about all the good times that you all had with Leo. It is time to move forward and away from all the grief, as he wouldn’t have wanted that.”
I turn in my seat as I hear Jacob's moan of pleasure behind me only to see that he has moved further back and is up against a tree trying to scratch the back of his body. What the hell is wrong with him?.
Mr Plummer continues. “If anybody would like to come and share a memory or say anything about Leo please do so now.” as the celebrant pauses waiting for anybody to make a speech, I hear.
“Mmm that feels good.” Moaned Jacob. Turning in my seat I see that he is still rubbing his back on a tree as he has his eyes closed and sighing with contentment. OMG is he for real?
Jason gets up and takes Mr Plummer’s place at the front. ”Leo was my best friend as well as my Beta. He was a wonderful, kind loving husband and he absolutely adored his little Phoebe. The first time he held her, there was so much love and pride in his eyes. Leo became the man he was, from the birth of his daughter. Somehow, he always knew that my Damon would be Phoebe's mate. I lost five thousand dollars the day his prediction came true. Leo was always a hard worker sometimes I had to tell him when enough was enough.....”
“Yes! Oh god that feels so good, don’t stop. Oh my.... down a bit more, oh yeah. Don’t forget my arse.” came Jacob's husky voice. We all turn around mouths hanging open to see that Tessa has her hand up Jacobs top scratching at his back as Jacobs is scratching the front of himself.
“Jacob is everything ok” Jason worriedly asks. “Um... well..... Oh yeah....Yes, sir don’t let me hold you up. I'm just feeling rather itchy.” came Jacobs hasty reply.
Mr Plummer took over again. “Ok if anyone would like to place a Rose or Lillie on Leo's coffin you may do so now.”
Imagine started playing as pack members came up and placed a flower on dad's coffin. A little girl about the age of Three stopped in front of mum and I and gave us a bunch of flowers and asked if she could give us a hug. Giving mum a hug first, she quickly made her way to me and climbed up into my lap. She wrapped her tiny arms around my neck and placed a kiss on my cheek. I couldn’t stop crying. She wiped at my tears with a tissue she pulled from her pocket “It be ok Luna da Alpha will ook afta you.” came her sweet little voice. She quickly climbs down and runs back to her parents.
Damon helped me to my feet and we both head to place our own flowers, and a hand full of dirt on dads coffin. Mum, Ava and Jason follow our lead and do the same.
I take a glance over at Jacob who has moved further back and now has his dress trousers down around his ankles, tearing at his legs with his now elongated claws.
“Ok if we could all say the lord's prayer” came Mr Plummer’s voice
Our Father, who art in heaven;
Hallowed be thy name; Thy kingdom come;
Thy will be done; On earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses,
As we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation; But deliver us from evil.
For thine is the Kingdom,
The power and the glory,
For ever and ever. Amen.
“Phoebe would like to share a poem with us now,” said Mr Plummer. I got up from my chair and was quite surprised when Damon came with me. Wrapping his arm around my middle pulling my back into his front, offering me his warmth and support. Standing in front of everybody I read my poem.
The moment that you left me
My heart broke in two
One side filled with memories
The other side died with you
I choke back a sob and continue
I often stay awake at night
With thoughts of just you
With tears running down my cheeks
Wondering why does life
have to go on without you
Remembering you is easy
I do it everyday
But missing you is a heartache
That never goes away
I was to emotional to glance around at the pack members after reading a poem I had found in one of the library books. Mr Plummer took over again. “Ok if everybody could do one last complementary run in wolf form of the pack's territory in honour of Leo that would be great. Ava, Elvia and Jason will be staying behind but your new Alpha and Luna will be leading. Once you are done there will be refreshments available in the party room at the pack house.”
The sky blackened as everybody started stripping getting into wolf form. A fresh lot of snow began to fall, it was beautiful. Jacob rolled around on the snowy cold ground in wolf form trying to scratch at himself. Ella loved the snow; the coldness didn’t bother her from copying Jacob and having her own roll around in it. Edmund walked over and licked the top of our head telling us everyone was now shifted. Standing, Edmund and I headed out with the rest of the pack behind us.
As the day came to an end, I found myself in mine and dads favourite place, on top of Saint Elias Mountain. It was one of the highest mountains, in Canada. I could also see the pack territory from here with all the lights ablaze it was beautiful. But here is where I felt closest to the moon goddess, and now my dad. Looking up at the moon it shined the brightest I’ve ever witnessed. It also looked like it was full of colour. Sitting here hugging myself for extra warmth my thoughts were running wild. I recalled Tessa’s words as she told me that she had put the itching powder in Jacob's powder bottle. She was just deeply sorry that he had used it today.
Dad loved and treated Jacob like a son. If he had still been here, he would have told everyone that had Jacob not done anything outrageous, his funeral would have been fake. Mum cuddled him while telling him not to change who he was for anyone or anything.
