《GOOD wife》1. The 16th year

Checking our bag, I checked myself again. I wanted to look good. I hope my makeover works. Without my specs, I feel my eyes are bare, but Norma said I look good. Maybe my husband would like my new look.
I am excited to meet him, again and nervous at the same time. We haven't even talked to each other in these two years. On top of This, it is the first time, I am travelling alone for 33 years of my life.
"Momma...." I heard Jamie whining. Even my 1-year-old son is excited to see his father for the first time.
"Yes, baby. Momma is coming." I rushed to the kitchen to see him struggling in the arms of Norma.
"Momma is here… Baby." I took him in my arms and kissed him. He's a momma's boy. I hope my baby will be as happy as me when he sees his complete family.
Us.
All three of us.
I, Cherish and Jamie.
Frowning his forest green like his father, he hugged me tight. As if I would have left him forever. I cooed him to assure him that no matter what I will always be with him, whenever he needs me.
"You both look like an angel," Norma said adoring us. I was lucky to have her otherwise surviving all these years without anyone around would have been torturous.
"Thank you for your advice. I hope he would be ecstatic to see his son. His Malcolm." I hoped his obsession with having Malcolm in his arms will be satisfied.
My words unsettled Norma. I could see her getting anxious. Her caring nature supported me a lot and even at this age, she cares a lot about me and my children, my both children.
"Dear, he doesn't look like Malcolm. None of your children will ever look like Malcolm."

"But he does look like Sir." My optimism was at its peak, just like the flower of Chrysanthemum.
"No doubt... He is our little James." She tried to pinch his cheeks, but he turned his face away and nuzzle into my neck to his round little face. But then he sticks his tongue out to show his anger to Norma. He doesn't like when someone else touches his cheeks except his momma.
"No baby. That's bad manners." I said with a stern voice. Although he looks like his father, I don't want him to be like him.
"Dear... He's a child." She laughed. "And I like the pink tongue." She somehow managed to pinch his chubby cheeks which earned her his wails.
"Who taught you these tantrums?" I cooed him again.
"Nomi." He pointed at her and pouted. While we laughed at Little useless accusations. He is not even 2 years old.
"These are his genes." Norma packed food for us and placed them in the basket. "David will drive you there."
"We could have managed."
"No... Roads have their own stories." Norma walked to the door and helped with the luggage. "And, my son is always free for you."
"You look beautiful." David praised me causing me to blush. I like this makeover. It was all because of Norma. She took all the advice from my psychiatrist. Even though she doesn't like my doctor, she is ready to co-operate whenever needed..... for me.
I have been visiting a psychiatrist from past 2 years. After having Jamie, I couldn't cope with postpartum depression and the Absence of my family, which I desperately wanted to build, left me heartbroken. No one was there except Norma and her family, Daniel, her husband and of course, David.
"Would you mind, if I sit with Jamie?" I asked.

"Of course, he needs you. Now I can't wait for my daughter to arrive." He chirped with joy.
"I hope it is fine with your wife... How's she?"
"As pregnant as hell. I don't understand those mood swings. Susan make me work on my ass." He grinned like a fool. Stupid man.
"Mr Brown... We have a young audience here." I warned him about Jamie. "This is so inappropriate to talk in this such manner."
"Yeah... Yeah... You must be sad. You will miss this Sunday in church." He teased me.
"No... I am excited to meet Cherish." I could help but jump for joy, thinking about my daughter. It's been 3 years since I saw her. She must have grown. I can't visualize her beauty. She is the first best thing that has happened to me before Jamie.
"She won't be there... She's in boarding school." He continued driving.
"Yes, first we will meet sir then we will ask him to take us to her."
"He won't be happy to see you there." He brought me back to reality. A reality that I have been trying to escape. A reality that will inevitably hurt me, always.
"But he would be happy to see his Malcolm." Trying to be optimistic, I smiled.
"He doesn't....."
"Look like Malcolm." I finished his statement. "I know. But Jamie is his son." I dismissed our conversation. I don't want to feel anything negative. Furthermore, I want to provide all the positive vibes possible to my children.
"You are too good for him.... your husband. He made you call him, SIR." David sounded disappointed. "He is not even loyal to you." I knew he was talking about my husband's adultery. Everyone talks about how unfaithful he is but no one notices that in 16 years of our marriage, he never considered divorce. I feel there is hope for our marriage. We can work on it. We can build the family that he lost 16 years ago. The family that I want to build with him from past 16 years.
"It's all rumours. He is a good man." I defended my husband and closed my eyes remembering his forest green eyes, those eyes that could make a girl go insane. That same eyes, my children were gifted.
"Momma..." Jamie called and pointed at David. "Big." He tried to speak.
We laughed when he called David, big. Indeed, David was big. Giant with his personality. He was once a boxer but left once he decided on the business. It was his free will. He wanted to run a business. His business wasn't as big as My husband's, but he did a good job, from nothing. He has a small chain of cab services. His parents are proud of him. I am proud of him.
"Yes... Baby, he is big." I said while David sulked.
"Dada...." Jamie smiled showing the dimples on his left cheek, that he got from me.
"Yes, Jamie we are going to Dada." I smiled while he touched the dimples on the left side of my cheek.
"That bastar....." I glared at David as I knew what he was going to say. Coughing, he smiled at Jamie. "He is lucky to have all of you."
"Never use bad words in front of kids."
He laughed and continue to drive while I imagined the reaction of my husband when he will see his son for the first time.
"By the way... Happy Anniversary. Mrs Carter."
