Sadie shifted nervously from foot to foot as she waited for the door to be answered. She tried to imagine how her mother would look. 'Has she put on weight? Has she lost weight? How long is her hair? What colour is it?'

"Hey, calm down." Peyton chuckled next to her.

The door opened and Sadie stood in shock. Standing before her was the same woman she walked away from almost four years ago. She was that same woman but something about her was different. There was an air about her that she had never had. It didn't take long for Sadie to put her finger on it. It was love. She was happy.

"Mom?" She whispered as a tear glided down her cheek.

"Baby girl?" Her mother whispered as well.

Sadie felt a slight push in the middle of her back and only then remembered what Peyton had told her - 'Make the first move. Hug her.'

She took a step forward and wrapped her arms around her mother who made no delay in wrapping her own arms around Sadie. She whimpered as more tears left her. She had missed her mother's hugs. She felt safe and loved in her mother's arms.

When they finally pulled away from each other she saw that her mother was crying too. "I missed you so much baby girl." She said with watery eyes as she kissed her daughter on the cheek.

"I missed you too mom. I am so sorry for all of this..." Sadie hung her head.

"I know baby girl. You're here now and that is all that matters to me."

Sadie smiled and only then did she remember Peyton was standing there. She looked to see that Peyton had shifted a few steps away and was looking off into the distance. She smiled to herself. 'You sure are sweet Peyton.' She saw it as Peyton's way of giving them some privacy for their reunion moment.

"Mom," Sadie beamed as she pulled Peyton next to her and into her mother's line of sight. "I would like you to meet my friend, Peyton."

Peyton offered her best smile as she nodded slightly with a small wave, "hi."

Sadie's mother beamed and Peyton immediately saw where Sadie got her looks, "hello darling." She stuck out her hand and Peyton took it, "you can call me Maggie."

Peyton released her hand and said, "umm... I'm not exactly accustomed to calling my elders by their first names, I could always just call you Ms Wells or are you using your maiden name? I don't know what that is but I could call you that."

Maggie chuckled at Peyton's awkwardness. "Please, come in girls." She said as she shifted for them to enter. "Well, there's a first time for everything. I am fine with you calling me Maggie. And yes, I am using my maiden name - Parker."

"Okay, I will try but please don't hate me if I call you Ms Parker."

Maggie chuckled again, "I won't hate you darling." She turned to Sadie and questioned, "is she always this polite?"

Sadie glanced at Peyton and said simply, "no."

Peyton huffed, "hey! I don't want your mom getting a bad impression of me."

Sadie smiled at her, "it's the truth and you know it."

"Yeah, but it's your mom, I don't want her thinking bad of me and by extension bad of you because you know what they say - show me your friends and I'll tell you who you are."

"Peyton! Calm down. Nobody is thinking bad of anybody. You're being paranoid."

"Maybe this was a bad idea, you should have brought Casey instead." Peyton did not understand why she was so nervous and wanted to give Sadie's mother the best image of herself that she possibly could. She wanted to impress her, she cared what she thought of her and it confused her because those were extremely unfamiliar feelings. She genuinely does not care what other people think of her.

Sadie took hold of her shoulders and looked her in the eye, "I told you already, there is no one else I wanted to bring. Okay? I want my mom to meet you. I mean, I want her to meet everyone else but you're the one I really want her to meet and get to know. Okay?"

Peyton looked at her confused and questioned, "why?"

Sadie sighed, "because... you're the most important person to me Peyton. You come before anyone else." She then whispered, "you're the one I love. Remember?"

Peyton opened her mouth with the same expression on her face and Sadie just knew what was going to come so she spoke, "do not ask me why."

Peyton shut her mouth and sighed, "fine."

"You two sure are cute." They both jumped at the sound of Maggie's humour-filled voice.

"I'm sorry Ms P." Peyton apologised.

Maggie simply smiled while shaking her head, "you have nothing to worry about Peyton. I like you already."

Sadie laughed and nudged Peyton, "see silly? You worried your pretty little head for nothing."

Peyton stuck her tongue out at Sadie earning her a laugh from Maggie.

"So, you girls had a long trip. You hungry?"

Peyton glanced nervously at Sadie before looking at Maggie and shaking her head, "I'm not."

"I'm a little peckish..."

Maggie nodded, "okay well lunch will be ready in about an hour so how about a muffin?"

Sadie perked up at this, "blueberry?"

Maggie nodded, "of course baby girl. I baked them this morning."

Sadie smiled and bounced up and down, "mom makes the most amazing blueberry muffins!" She gushed to Peyton as they followed Maggie to the kitchen.

The kitchen and dining room were basically in the same room, separated by a breakfast bar. Maggie motioned to the breakfast bar, "sit."

The girls sat as Maggie set a plate of blueberry muffins on it and went about tending to her pots. Sadie wasted no time. She grabbed a muffin and bit into it before she could even remove the paper cup. "Mmmm..." With a full mouth she spoke, "mom... this is soooo gooood! Mmmm. God I missed your cooking!"

Peyton could not help but smile at Sadie and admire her as she ate her muffin. Sadie turned to her and again with a full mouth asked, "you want some?"

Peyton shook her head. She was not feeling to eat and she wanted to save whatever bit of eating she could manage for lunch. She did not want to totally embarrass herself nor did she want to insult Maggie by not eating any of her food.

Sadie finished her first muffin and started a second. After her third bite she put it in front of Peyton, "come on, just a bite. You have to taste this. If you think my cooking is good, wait till you try my mom's!"

Peyton shook her head again, "Sadie..." She pleaded, "please don't force me."

Sadie dropped her eyes and nodded, "sorry... "

Peyton felt a pain in her heart at seeing Sadie so disappointed so, she put herself aside and said, "okay, just a small piece."

Sadie instantly perked up and broke off piece of the muffin and fed it to Peyton.

"Wow... this is really good miss Maggie." She said looking at her.

"Miss Maggie?" Maggie asked with a smile.

Peyton nodded, "I thought we could come to a middle ground."

"I like it and I am pleased to hear that you liked it. What's the matter though? You don't eat much?"

Peyton shook her head, "no. I have a bit of an appetite problem."

"What is the problem with your appetite?" Maggie asked in a very concerned motherly tone.

"I just don't have one."

"You're getting one though." Sadie smiled.

Peyton nodded with a smile of her own, "it sure seems so."

"So mom, where's Fiona?"

Maggie stopped what she was doing to turn around and watch Sadie with a smile, "she'll be here soon. I forgot to buy milk so she ran out to get some."

Peyton looked on at the two as they conversed. Sadie told her all about school and her friends and important things that happened to her. Peyton did notice that she skillfully avoided the topic of Adam and or any relationships of the sort.

Maggie was facing the girls listening to Sadie tell her about the time she joined the volleyball team and broke her arm when her eyes lit up and a smile graced her lips as she said, "you're back."

Both girls turned around to see a beautiful woman standing there with a lovely smile on her face. She walked around the bar and stood next to Maggie handing her a grocery bag. "You must be Sadie?" She smiled at Sadie.

Sadie nodded, "I sure am."

When Fiona stuck her hand out introducing herself to Sadie she stood, walked over to her and hugged her. "Nice to meet you Fiona. I am sorry for taking this long to do so."

She sat back next to Peyton, "this is my friend, Peyton."

Peyton gave her a small wave and a, "hi miss Fiona."

"Just Fiona is fine."

Peyton opened her mouth but didn't get the chance to speak as Maggie beat her to it, "don't bother going down that road hun. Just leave her to call you miss Fiona."

Fiona smiled, "okay then. When is lunch going to be ready? I'm starved."

Sadie handed her a muffin, "have a muffin. They're miraculous."

Fiona laughed heartily as she took the muffin from Sadie, "don't I know that."

It was only about five minutes wait before lunch was ready and they all sat down to have a lovely meal. Maggie made scalloped potatoes, roasted beef, green beans and a salad.

As they passed the food around Peyton took tiny amounts in everything and looked at her final plate dauntingly.

It was a small round table and Sadie was sat next to Peyton so she leaned over, "just pretend I made it."

Peyton glanced at her, "we both know that won't work. I will try my best to eat though." She forced a smile.

Maggie and Fiona exchanged a worried look as they observed the little conversation between the two young girls.

The four made light conversation as they ate; everyone of them enjoying the others' company. After lunch, a slice of triple chocolate cake for dessert was offered. Peyton declined but she did eat some out of Sadie's slice.

"Are you girls ready to head back home or would you like to stay a little longer." Maggie asked trying to hide the expectation in her voice.

Sadie looked to Peyton and Peyton knew that Sadie wanted to stay longer so she spoke, "if you're not kicking us out, we're not going anywhere."

Sadie beamed, "there you are! I was wondering how long it would take you to be yourself."

"I was just trying to control my comments. I don't want your moms hating me. You know I can be a bit... out there..."

Maggie and Fiona smiled brightly at their conversation. "We would love to have you." They said simultaneously.

They all relocated to the living room where Maggie and Fiona sat on one couch and Sadie and Peyton on another.

"So Peyton, I've been dying to ask you since I came in, what does your t-shirt say?" Fiona asked with great curiosity.

Peyton smiled mischievously as she looked at Sadie. In that moment Sadie knew it was something raunchy or something along those lines because Peyton was like that.

Peyton unbuttoned her shirt and opened it revealing her t-shirt which read: "Nobody Knows I'm a Lesbian"

"Peyton!" Sadie pushed her.

"What? You don't like it?"

Both Maggie and Fiona were cracking up with laughter as Sadie crossed her arms and glared playfully at Peyton.

"Awww come on, you know you want to smile." Peyton teased as she began poking Sadie's cheeks.

After a couple seconds Sadie swatted her hands away and burst out laughing causing Peyton to smile triumphantly.

The four spoke for about an hour about everything and nothing. That is until Maggie said to Sadie, "I have something for you baby girl. I found it in my things after the move." She got up then returning several seconds later with an envelope.

Sadie took the envelope and immediately her eyes got fuzzy. It was the envelope that Astrid had left for her. "I... I thought I lost this..." She whispered sadly as a tear escaped her.

Peyton pulled her in for a small hug as she composed herself. When she sat back up Maggie explained, "I left you messages about it."

"I never read most of your messages... I'm sorry..." Sadie said with a hurt voice as she looked at her mother.

Wasting no time, Maggie made her way back to Sadie and pulled her into a hug. Peyton and Fiona left the room leaving them to have a moment together.

It was not until after having dinner that the girls waved and hugged goodbye to Maggie and Fiona promising to come back for lunch and dinner next Saturday.

"So, what were you and mom talking about when Fiona and I were washing the dishes?" Sadie asked as they drove.

Peyton smiled, "you."

"You were talking about me? What about me?"

Peyton shrugged, "just random stuff. She told me about how when you were five you were convinced that your dog was a pony and you used to ride on his back declaring you were princess Sadie."

Sadie facepalmed herself.

Peyton chuckled at Sadie's embarrassment but it soon died as she thought about what she had asked Maggie and what her response was.
