《How to be a dragon [HTTYD Fanfiction] [Toothcup]》Chapter 3

Hiccup's POV
I was so happy. The human, Toothless, taught me how to speak human language. He called it Norse. He had taught how the symbols spoken, calling the symbols 'runes'. Human was so weird. Why would they speak such hard words?
As we bonded, I knew why he was my mate now. He was a bright person, and the way he looked at me... It looked as if he was adoring me. And I fell for him more and more as we got along.

The next day
Toothless's POV
I woke up in the morning. Ugh... I had to go to the arena again. I was feeling lazy, ut dad would scold me if I skip the class. Even though he was on the trip to the nest. I dressed up then ate breakfast quickly.
Grabbing my sword and heading to the arena. I saw the others heading there too. "Hey Tooth. Where were you yesterday?" Snotlout asked as we entered the arena.
"In the forest... Practicing!" I replied a bit too quickly but Snotlout seemed to buy it. Credited to his stupidity. But Astrid surely gave me a look, telling me how suspicious she was but she didn't push me further.
Today we were training in the wooden maze with the Nadder. And I kept avoiding the dragon. I didn't even know how to finish this training. I didn't focus much on the training as I was daydreaming about that dragon boy. I was tackled by Astrid and she scowled at me and then the Nadder ran passed me.
Then Astrid messed the maze up. She fell on top of me and I was sure I heard "Ooh, love on battlefield" From Ruffnut. Astrid stood up and pulled her ax along with my shield then smashed it at the lunging Nadder. It fell back dizzily.
"What's wrong with you?! Tooth? Our parent's war is about to become ours. Figure out what side you are on" Astrid scolded me and went away. Yeah right. But I wasn't a Viking. I am me. I be what I want.
I stood up and walked out of the arena, heading to the cove where the dragon boy stayed. I couldn't wait to teach him more Norse so that we could finally communicate. I decided to grab the fish from my home to give him too.
I walked passed the narrow entrance of the cove and walked along the lake. I called out to him "Hey dragon boy?!"
Then a pounce on my back made me yelped and fell to the ground. The dragon boy purred and licked my hair. "Okay okay! Please stop licking me" I said and he obeyed. He sat up and sniffed at me as I stood up then brought out a fish that I had stolen. "Here you go. I think you maybe hungry"
He purred and grabbed it in his mouth and slowly ate it whole... I meant he ate all of it... The bone too... He looked cute when he took a bite. I had to admit that if he wasn't a dragon hybrid. He would look like a famous cute guy for the girl. The thought of that made me angry... I didn't know why.

When he finished we continued the lesson. Today I was gonna teach him about the introduction, because I didn't want to call him 'Dragon boy' forever. It took a short amount of for him to learn how to make a sentence and his name. It seemed like he had a name already. I let him practice how to say his name while I was catching some fish for myself and him.
When I finished. I approached him and heard him murmuring "Wee...are mat-" He turned around and looked at a pile of fish then looked at me with curiosity. "W-what... Isss that?"
"Oh? The fish are for launch.. And I see you're able to speak a bit now" I applauded "Try to introduce yourself"
He nodded before speaking "Ah am Hi-cap Horrendousss Ha-dock The Third...."
Hmm... That name was familiar. I heard it somewhere. It was... 'His' name wasn't it? It was Chief's lost son's name. What?
"Your name... Is Hiccup Horrendous Haddock The Third?!" I exclaimed. It was a rare name and no one would use a name 'Hiccup' and the last name that long. It must be him. It must be the lost son of Stoick and Valka! But... How could he have these dragon things?
"A-are yu okai" Hiccup asked as he saw a surprised expression on my face. I snapped out and gave him a grin, telling him that I was fine.
"Hey, Hiccup... Can you tell me where you get that name?" I asked.
"Ma.. Human.. Pawent gafe.. ma that name.. That.. isss what ma dagon father.. told me" Hiccup said with broken words, but the sentences was in an understandable order. I had to admit that he was a fast learner. But what matter here was... He was taken by a dragon and then I guessed the dragons raised him. And somehow he was able to talk like dragons.
I wasn't sure if I wanted to tell Valka and Stoick. I meant... They had believed that their son, Hiccup, was dead for years now. What would happen if they couldn't buy it? But Hiccup also reminded me so much of Stoick. The auburn hair and beautiful emerald green eyes. They were just like Stoick's eyes. Wait... did this mean he was my adoptive brother? What a shame, I really was attracted to him.
Hiccup leaned in and licked my lips and I felt a sudden tickling sensation move down my spine. "Uh.. Why would you do that..?!" I asked a bit startled. I felt my cheeks burning up.
Hiccup pouted "Ah think... ya like it..." He said. Maybe that was a dragon habit. "Ah am sssowwy.."
"Uh... It's okay" I said. I swore a part of me had liked it. Sighing as I stood up, prepared to go back to the village.
"ya are going?" Hiccup asked.
"Ahh... Yes" I said and started walking but Hiccup pounced on me.
"Ton't go... I want ya" Hiccup said and nuzzled against my chest. "Pleasss"
I scratched his back and he purred in happiness. It seemed like Hiccup really liked it. I didn't know what had happened to him. I was sure normal human couldn't create ice and have a forked tongue.

I somehow stayed like that for a while until he fell asleep on my lap. He looked so peaceful and...not dangerous. What if other dragons had emotions and minds? What if all that Vikings learned about dragons was wrong.
His body was very warm. I thought I could use him instead of a blanket. He was so cuddly. As I think about that I moved and arms around his ribs and cuddled with him before falling as sleep.

Hiccup's POV
You may asked, why hadn't I used my magic to master the Norse language. Well, I wanted to spend time with him as much as possible. "Toothless?! Toothless?!" I heard a voice of a female being shouted. She was shouting my mate's name. I could sense her near the cove where I stay.
I was still in my mate's embrace and didn't want to go out of it. He looked so peaceful. And I could sense happiness from him.
I quickly made my icy tail disappeared when I felt that the human entered the cove. I could feel her curiosity toward me. Maybe she was my mate's parent. But I didn't care anyway. I was with my lover, that was all I cared.
"Umm.." She murmured and then I felt a touch on my shoulder and a little shake. I pretended to wake up peacefully and looked at the figure in front me.
She had long braid and somehow she reminded me of someone. My hands moved to my mate's arm and jointed him awake. He yelped and looked at me before turning the attention to the woman had woken me.
"Toothless. Let's go home... And who's this?" She asked.
"He..umm ah... My new friend! I found him in here!" Toothless lied. He was smiling.
He got up and I did too. "Who are you, lad?" She asked "What's your name?" She smelled like Toothless's scent. Maybe I could trust her.
"My name's H-" I said. Ah... I had used my power to boost the learning up 'a bit' (I would let my mate teach me if she didn't show up!) but I never spoke my name because my mate interrupted me.
"Hatch!" Toothless exclaimed "His name is Hatch" That wasn't my name! And I wasn't a hatchling anymore! But I didn't mind if Toothless wanted that name.
I gave him an adoring look but then the woman spoke up "Oh! I'm Valka! Let's go back home, children. It's freezing out here" She said and led us out of the forest.
I leaned against Toothless all the way. His scent was so comforting. He kept blushing all the way too. "So Hatch. You are obviously not from Berk. Where are you from?" Valka asked me.
I wasn't really sure where I was from so I answered honestly "Don't know"
Toothless gave me a 'what' look. "Since when you could speak properly?" He whispered.
"Five minutes ago" I whispered back.
"How?" He asked.
"Magic" I said and grinned softly.
"Oh..."
We walked into the village and a big guy... Okay, there were so many big guys here, he approached us and hugged Toothless. I growled quietly, trying to restrain myself from harming the guy who hugged him.
"Oh lad. Where have ya been?!" A meathead said.
"Gobber! I...I was with Hi- Hatch" Toothless mentioned me and Gobber looked at me and waved.
"Aye, Lad. Where are you from?" Gobber asked.
I shrugged before saying "I don't know sir. I crashed here"
Gobber looked at me with confusion but he didn't say anything more.
Valka brought us to her nest... uh... House. I had never been in anyone's nest before. This was so interesting. Toothless led me to his room and he said that I could sleep with him on his bed. He set the bed and motioned me to sit with him.
"Hey... How about we talk about you?" Toothless said "Tell me your story, I want to know it"
I cleared my throat before saying "Well... I was just a hatchling...baby. When I was taken by Storm Stalker-"
"Storm Stalker?" Toothless repeated.
"Ah... He's my dragon brother" I replied "Yeah. He took me to the great bewilderbeast, the alpha king of the dragons. And the gave me his blood adopted me as his son and heir. I was raised by the dragons... And when I was thirteen summer cycles old-"
"Summer cycles old?"
"Humans call it 'Years'... But yeah. That was when I started rescuing the dragon from the Red Death. The greedy dragon queen. She has been raiding your village for ages. Her size is like the mountain. I could bring the dragons out of the queen's command and send them to my father's nest. That is one of the reasons why the dragon raid had been weaker lately. And that's all"
"That makes sense..." Toothless said.
"How about you?" I asked.
"Well... I was born with different eyes. Everyone thought that I was abnormal and they abandoned me. I was adopted by Valka and Stoick. They are the chiefs of Berk. They lost their baby and they thought it was a curse so that they adopted me instead" Toothless said.
"I'm so sorry.." I said and nuzzled him affectionately.
"Uh... Why are you doing this?" He asked.
"That's how dragons comfort" I said. "I was raised with it, you know?"
"Ah... Maybe?" He said and chuckled.
"I was wondering if I could stay here a bit longer..." I said.
"You can stay here as long as you want.. But I want to know that why haven't you fly away yet?" Toothless asked.
I felt my cheeks burning up suddenly "W-well... My instinct won't let me... My....mate is here" I said.
"Mate?"
"Y-yeah... Humans call it 'lover' but this mate thing...is deeper than a lover. It means a soulmate, a destined lover" I explained. "Once dragons find a mate, it's for life"
"Oh... Who is it then?" He asked.
"A secret" I said quickly. I had to make him develope a feeling for me first.
Soon enough. He would love me back.

Nero Zero
Monsters plagued the lands for too long. No matter if one had fangs, beak, teeth, skin, fur, or feather, or was tall, stout, or diminutive, the people suffered. Until the Gadgeteers came with a device that could allow people to fight back. Powered by one's own magical power, feeding off of monster Essence, the Arbitrium bracer turned the tables. It also changed society. Strength of one's level cap was all that mattered. The strongest were Kings and Emperors. The weak or those too poor to afford the marvelous device, destitute. And so it has been for millennia. All that mattered was one's level cap. High, low, a fate decided the moment the strange contraption came alive. Too high and you were a threat to those interested in keeping the status quo, a weed to be nipped before it could grow and take root. Too low and you were nobody, fated to be a bit more than a simple farmer. What if someone, somewhere, came up with a zero for their level cap? Unable to use Essence, unable to level up. On all of recorded history, it never happened. Until it did. In a small village of fur-less and tail-less ape-beastkin, a boy found out he was uniquely handicapped. Nero's level cap was Zero. But he'd never let that stop him from reaching his goals. ------------------------------------------------ All stories have already been told. We merely reuse elements from them. From Joseph Campbell's Monomith to Stephen King's advice, and that encyclopedia of tropes you've visited, fiction has been dissected and reassembled countless times. One will surely find elements inspired on other works here. Just like cooking from basic ingredients, the recipe and presentation is what really matter. This is a fantasy adventure, of someone that goes from a zero to a slightly bigger zero. It will have romance but no harem. Cruelty but with hope dimly shining ahead. Lightweight where it can be, heavy where it must. Thanks for reading. Cover Credits (The cover is CC-BY-NC-SA): Steampunk Spider Bracer, by Daniel Proulx. Primal Adaptation
The story of a little soul that ends up tangled in the games and bets of entities that utilize beasts of any primordial planet as a game avatar to make the Perfect Primal. This tale is not only its story because it will also share its destiny with the entity that will help it in its journey, and together they will rise from their particular situations one way or another. Primal Adaptation is a history with some RPG elements in it, but the MC can't look at a status screen or skill page because it's a beast through and through. I have implemented an evolution system for all the creatures of this story, where they grow or mutate depending on what they consume. In this tale, you won't find a Deus ex machina to give the protagonist power-ups. Everything must be learned and comprehended before its use unless it's something it gets immediately, or the abilities get understood by instinct. In essence, it is survival and gambit for opportunities, be it from one MC or the other.
