I don't know what I was thinking inviting a complete stranger to the house. If Liam had to find out it would be the end of me. I'm quickly snapped out of my thoughts when I hear ringing coming from the kitchen. Deciding to lift my lazy ass I walk towards the build in camera to see who is by the gate.
I see Blake in his car talking with one of the guards. He must of noticed my face pop up on the little screen as he switches his attention towards the little screen.
" I come baring gifts." Blake smiles in the little screen.
I reassure the guard for the third time that it is alright to let Blake in. He only agrees when I agreed to let another guard accompany us. Walking to the front door I patiently wait for Blake's car to appear in the driveway. Leave it to Liam to find a house with a forest as an entrance.
Blake gets out of his car and raises his right hand which is holding a jar.
" Home made fudge for the sweetest girl in England." he smiles.
" Stella already left so I'll leave it on the kitchen counter for her." I joke as we enter the house. Soon enough a man in a dark suit appears and quickly follows us into the house while speaking into his little earpiece.
Blake looks a little confused as he eyes the guard. He throws me a questioning look and I just wave it off. It must look a little odd for him. Me in this big ass house with guards surrounding me. He probably thinks I'm some sort of criminal. If only he knew.
" Nice house." Blake says in awe as his eyes travel over the modern house.
" Thanks. " I don't really know what to say. It's not my house. It's Liam's. Try explaining that to a stranger.
We walk over into the kitchen. I offer to make him some coffee and he gladly accepted it. Although he did tell me to pour in the milk before I pour in the boiling water. I don't know what the difference is. It's gonna get mixed either way. Deciding not to argue with him I do as he asks.
" Not too bad." Blake says taking another sip from the coffee. I sit down next to him with a similar mug of coffee.

" Thanks." I smile and take a sip from my own.
I don't know why but it's really awkward between me and Blake. We had a great time earlier today. Maybe it's the fact that we are in Liam's house and that he could show up any minute that makes me feel a little uncomfortable. I did invite Blake over and I also live here so I shouldn't be acting this way. Right?
" So how'd you end up pregnant?" Blake aks the question that I've been hoping not to answer. I can't blame him. I'm a pregnant teenager.
" Oh well I had a douche of a boyfriend who made me feel very vulnerable. One thing led to another and bam... Baby." I shrug. No need to go into detail.
" And where is he now? The baby's father." he continues being curious.
" He doesn't want anything to do with the baby. " I say but my voice comes out softer than I intended.
" But I prefer it that way. He's a child on his own so what would he even do with a baby? " I continue, trying to lighten the mood.
Blake gives me a sympathetic look and reaches over for my hand that is not holding the mug.
" He clearly doesn't know what he lost. " he smiles.
I smile back. Blake really is a nice guy. He might be a little forward at times but that means he's real and that's something I really need at the moment.
" Any crazy past lovers?" I ask him.
He shakes his head. " Don't even get me started."
I roll my eyes. " I just told you how I ended up pregnant. The least you can do is to tell me a little about you."
I stand up and take the now empty mugs to the sink. Blake stays quiet as I do so. I turn around and smile at him again.
" I understand if you don't want to. " I add hoping that I didn't upset him in some way.
" No, I want to. " he sighs.
I go sit on my previous chair as Blake starts telling me about the girl he fell in love with who ended up being pregnant with his brother's child. She acted as if it was his own child but the truth got out and the news quickly became major gossip in his neighborhood. He left her after he found out. His brother and the girl ended up dating afterwards and are now raising their child together. Hectic.

" I think it's safe to say that I'm not really the relationship type." he chuckles.
" Yeah, no kidding." I say in awe.
I feel bad for the poor guy. He thought he had everything and it got ripped away from him so easily. This world we live in can be cruel.
After the intense talk we decided to watch a horror. The guard of course invited himself to join us. He's been a mute most of the time. I only hear him talk softly when someone is buzzing in from the front gate. Just as I was getting comfortable on the couch with a piece of fudge, I hear what sounds like a phone going off.
" Who's phone is that?" Blake asks the same thing I wanted to ask.
I take out my phone to see its dead. Blake also looked over at his phone and shakes his head. I look over at the guard that is sitting on a chair not too far from me. He doesn't show any emotion as he takes out his phone to show the sound is not coming from his phone. Oh well it's probably going to stop anyways. After what seems like an hour but really it's been 10 minutes I start to get frustrated.
" This ringing is going to irritate me. I'm going to follow the noise and turn that damn phone off." I say frustrated as I struggle to get up.
Damn you belly bump.
The guard is immediately on his feet as he follows me. I follow the noise up the stairs. Just as I think I have it, it stops and then it rings again but in a different part of the house. This is strange.
I decide to follow the noise to one of the bathrooms but it stops yet again. It starts to ring again but this time coming for Stella's room.
I think I'm going mad.
" Do you think it's one of the guards trying to prank us?" I question the guard who is also getting frustrated.
He doesn't answer as he continues on searching for the mysterious sound.
I walk over to Stella's room. This better not be a fucking joke. This is a lot of excersize for me. The noise stops once again.
I'm snapped out of my concentration when I hear a loud crash coming form downstairs.
" Blake?!" I yell over the contentious noise. The guard is immediately in front of me as he takes out his gun.
" Everly what's going on?!" Blake yells back.
The guard and I storm down the stairs to find Blake standing in front of the sofa he was sitting on with an confused yet worried expression. Nothing seems to be broken in the living room. A loud crash comes again and I'm certain this time that it is coming from the kitchen.
" Stand back." Blake says as he pulls out what I fear the most.
Resting between Blake's hands is a shining black gun. The guard immediately lifts his gun towards Blake, obviously seeing him as a threat now.
" Why do you have a gun with you?!" I whisper yell as Blake tries to reason with the guard that he isn't a threat and that we have bigger worries.
Blake doesn't spare me a glance as he starts walking closer to the kitchen with the guard short on his heels. I follow them slowly. It feels as if time has slowed down when I hear another crash.
Who ever the hell is breaking all of our shit better replace them. I'm not going to sit with a cranky Liam when he gets back.
If he gets back, my subconscious reminds me.
" E-EVER-EVERLY!" My blood runs cold when I hear a familiar voice yell my name in pain from the kitchen.
Without even thinking I rush past the two armed men and into the kitchen. The whole kitchen is a mess. There is blood covering the counters and plates crashed on the floor along with other appliances. But what shocks me the most is the person who's trying to get up from the floor, covered in bruises and blood.
" Oh my God."

Wander West, in Shadow
BOOK 1 COMPLETED A young wizard journeys west, through dark forests and dangerous lands, searching for something. Accompanied by a wild witch who has secrets of her own, they come across terrible creatures, hauntings, cursed villages, and memories from their past. Who else will they meet along their journey, and to find what he is looking for, how far will the wizard have to wander west? NOTE: The above synopsis is intentionally written to be as spoiler-free as possible. If you would like a more in-detail synopsis, one that contains minor spoilers, please check out the "Synopsis" chapter at the beginning of this fiction. If you read and enjoy, please leave a rating or review! FORMERLY TITLED: THE GLIMMERLING This story was formerly titled "The Glimmerling", because the first part was a short story of that title; it has since been expanded upon, thus the title change. Chapters 1-8 (30k words) are the first 'arc', if you want to get a feel for the story. To give some context on the setting: Magic is a bit weaker in this story than you might be used to, and we start off following some relatively new magic users. For some perspective, being able to light a campfire with magic is considered relatively advanced for someone who is the age of the main character. Magic can become very powerful - and there are some examples of powerful wizards within this story - but it's not where the main characters are yet. Part of the story is about following them as they learn more about magic. Enemies are also very dangerous, and running, hiding, or trying to talk their way out of a dangerous situation is often a better choice than fighting for the characters. While I have added tags for traumatizing content, sexuality, violence, swearing, etc. I try to avoid super-explicit descriptions of these things. But they are part of the story.

Dan Martin has a good life. He's respected at his job, and enjoys his work. He is close to his family, and they love and support him. With engaging hobbies, relative financial security, and freedom to learn and pursue his interests, Dan is happy. So it's not particularly welcome when he's selected by an inscrutable and seemingly omnipotent System as a test subject. The downsides: All of this is insane and by any rational analysis he's gonna die. The upsides: Super powers, a cure for a physical disability that had limited him, and above all, so very much to learn (for as long as he can avoid dying). I am very much a beginner as an author, and any feedback or suggestions on how to improve would be deeply appreciated. Chapter releases should be daily for the first two weeks and sporadic after that as I use up my buffer. Please consider this work as a rough draft subject to revision and/or retcon. It is not only my first attempt at original story telling, but at world building and RPG style system design. The latter has been very difficult, even drawing on the brilliant work of many RPGs and LitRPGs for inspiration. Thank you to any willing to give a new story and a new writer a try!

They're hard to miss because they are easily one of the most attractive couples that I've ever seen. I'm convinced that I must be hallucinating, because he makes eye contact and walks towards me. Unfortunately, he's also failing computer science which is the one thing he sees that is in the way of his pro career.
