"Woahhh," you squeal when you enter the gym.
"What are you so excited about Shortie. You've been in a gym before." Tsukishima flicks your forehead.
"Owwww. I've never seen an actual game, even though its a practice match before..." You poke at where Tsukishima flicked.
"Tch" Tsukishima walks away to join the others.
You make your way onto the court when a boy with dark roots and bleached ends catches your attention. A voice in your head tells you to go and talk to him.
"H-hey?" You say.
His head turns to meet your gaze, "Are you talking to me?" He says quietly.
"Yeah! I'm (Name) Shimizu! You can call me (Name) I'm an assistant manager for Karasuno. Im guessing you go to Nekoma! Its nice to meet you!" You hold out your hand smiling.
"Y-Yeah. I'm Kenma Kozume. I go by Kenma though," he gives you a small smile and shakes your hand.
"Kenma-kun, who is this?" A tall man with messy black hair puts his arm around Kenma.
"I-I'm (Name) Shimizu. It's a pleasure to meet you" You say stammering.
"Nice to meet you (Nickname)-chan! You must be with Karasuno. I'm Tetsuro Kuroo" he shakes your hand with a bright smile.
"WHO IS THAT!" you hear a Nekoma player holler, who points in your direction.
"P-Pretty lady manager" He says.
'M-Me?? Beautiful?' You look puzzled. You turn around to see that the player was referring to your sister. You let out a deep sigh.
"Woah! She's beautiful!" You hear Kuroo say.
Kenma looks at you with a worried expression. "Hey, (Name)-chan," he says tugging at your black club jacket.
"You wanna see my game?" He asks, directing your attention away from your sister.
"Sure!" Your face lights up and you walk with Kenma to a bench.
—
"Oi, Shortie." Tsukishima walks over to you and Kenma who are laughing about the game.
Your expression changes as you give the beanstalk a disgusted look, "What the hell do you want Tsukishima"

He gives you his usual sly smirk and shrugs, "I don't know maybe because your sister was calling for you to give you a snack."
"What?!" You stand up, handing Kenma back his game. "Sorry Kenma-kun I have to go and see my sister! She told me she packed me takoyaki and I realllyyyy love takoyaki." You smile and make your way over to Kiyoko.
"Who were you even talking to?" Tsukishima asks as you two walk over to the other side of the court.
"Why does it matter to you? He's my friend."
"You're actually social?" Tsukishima gasps in the most sarcastic tone.
"Considering your only 'friend' is Yamaguchi-kun I don't think you should be talking about being social."
"Relationships are a waste of time. Yamaguchi has been there for me since junior high so he's an exception. Other than that, its a pain," Tsukishima says with narrow eyes.
"Whatever you pessimist," You smile.
"Shut up Shortie," He says whacking your head lightly.
"Beanstalk!" You put your hands on your head.
—
The whistle blows signaling the start of the practice match. As you sit on the bench with Kiyoko, you happily eat your takoyaki with the face of satisfaction.
"You eat like a pig," Tsukishima says in disgust.
"Shut up beanstalk, I can eat the way I like," you say continuing to eat ignore the actual game.
As soon as you finish your attention is drawn back to the court where you cheer for everything everyone does.
"GO BEANSTALK!" You say as the middle blocker plays.
"(Name)-chan, calm down ahaha," Suga chuckles.
"Oh.. right ahahha. Sorry" You say in embarrassment.
—
The game ends with Nekoma taking both sets. You walk over to Nekoma to congratulate them on their win.
"It's no big deal (Name)-chan. It's just a practice match..." Kenma says slightly flattered.
"I know... but you did so well Kenma-kun!" You say smiling.

"Ah... thank you.." Kenma's face turns a light pink.
"Hey! You first year manager," You hear a guy call out.
"Huh?" You say turning around.
The Wing Spiker of Nekoma makes his way over to you. "Hey there! I'm Taketora Yamamoto!"
"Uh... hi?... I'm (Name) Shimizu..." You say reluctantly.
"Would you mind helping me?" Yamamoto asks.
You feel slightly flattered that he came to you for help and not your sister so you nod. His face lights up, "Great! Would you mind introducing me to Kiyoko-San! I heard you're her sister and I was wondering if you would put in a good word for me,"
You get drawn back due to his request.
-
"Hey (Name)-chan! Can you do me a favor since you're my best friend?" A boy asks.
"Sure Riko-kun! I'll do anything to help my friend!"
"Can you go to your sister and put in a good word for me? I really want to get to know her!"
'Onee-chan? Why does he want to meet her?'
"Oh— um sure I guess?" You say, "Do you want to go to my house and hang out again?"
"Uh... will Kiyoko-senpai be there?" he asks.
"Oh.. no. She has club and—"
"No thanks then. I have to go bye! Remember to tell Kiyoko-senpai about me!!" He runs off to go play with the other boys.
You stand alone in the classroom while everyone passes by.
It's been like this ever since junior high, everyone asking for Kiyoko and only her.
-
'It's happening again isn't it?' you think.
'People always using me to get to Kiyoko....'
Kenma notices the expression you are making and turns to Yamamoto, "Yamamoto-kun, if you want to talk to her do it yourself and don't ask others to do it."
You look up with surprise in your eyes at Kenma. Yamamoto steps back, "Fine then," He puffs out his chest and walks over to Kiyoko but is then put to a stop by Tanaka.
You look away, embarrassment crosses your face as you rub your arm. Kenma turns to you, "This is normal huh?" He says quietly. Your eyes meet his.
"I guess I know how you feel..." he starts. "I haven't been noticed at all in junior high unless someone wanted to talk to Kuro..."
"I love Kiyoko. I really do. Shes been there for me since I was born and I love her. I'm trying my best so that people like me for me and not my sister..." You say, spilling all your feelings out.
"It's okay (Name)-chan. I'm here for you and you also have all of Karasuno to help you." Kenma gives you a sweet smile. "How about this," Kenma takes out a paper and writes numbers on it. "If you need me then just call or text and you can vent to me,"
"T-Thank you Kenma-kun, really I—"
"Oi, Shortie" Tsukishima cuts you off.
"Tsukishima-san...." Kenma says bowing hello.
"What do you want beanstalk," you say taking the paper and standing up.
"Kiyoko-san is calling for you,"
You look in the direction of your sister who is holding her hand up. "Oh... Sorry Kenma-kun. Turns out I have to go..."
"Don't worry I understand... Just text me later ok?" Kenma says with a smile.
Tsukishima gives Kenma a look that lasts for a split second. Glowing golden eyes with an intimidating affect takes over Kenma.
"Come on beanstalk," You motion Tsukishima to join you on your walk out of the gym.
"Shut up shortie," Tsukishima says pushing you forward while he passes you.
"You stupid dickhead," you stick out your tongue "RACE YA!" You say running pass Tsukishima laughing.
"Like hell you'll beat me," Tsukishima charges forward and you two leave the gymnasium.

Starchild
“It’s life’s illusions I recall. I really don’t know life at all.” from the song, Both Sides Now, by Joni Mitchell Starchild is an adventure novel set within an understanding of reality that is rooted in Eastern spiritual traditions. It takes as its starting point experiments in remote viewing that were genuinely undertaken by the American military in the nineteen-nineties under the name of the Stargate Project. It then imagines how a more advanced attempt to weaponise the capabilities of consciousness might have been developed in the present day.The story then explores how Ultimate Reality might respond to such a threat.Deep, elemental forces thus bring together Samantha Martin and Sahadeva Varma, old colleagues from the Stargate Project, to avert the apocalyptic consequences of this military attempt to weaponise consciousness. This fast-paced story spans genres including romance, action, adventure, science fiction and more. Although this story is based on concepts drawn from established spiritual traditions, these have sometimes been extrapolated to the point of very extreme speculation for the needs of an adventure story.Much of the underlying philosophy, however, as explained in the dharma talks given by Samantha Martin, is paraphrased from the guidance of respected spiritual teachers. Scheduling: Starchild is a previously unpublished novel of one hundred thousand words which was serialised in weekly instalments over twenty-five weeks from 15th November 2021 to the 29th April 2022. Each instalment contains five chapters – an average of approximately four thousand words in each instalment.
