《Please...》Chapter Nineteen

"Harry... Harry, wake up," Remus whisper shouted, slightly shaking Harry's arm. "Pappy? What's wrong?"

"I'm not sure yet, just... grab Lily and your blanket, okay?" Harry took them in arms, along with the stuffed bat that reminded him of Severus. "Pappy-"

"Come here, Harry."

He took Harry in his arms, cradling him against his chest. "It's okay... It's okay, it'll be fine..." Remus muttered, though it was more to himself than Harry. "It's okay." He rushed to the sitting room, where Severus and Dumbledore were talking.

"Daddy!" Harry screamed when he noticed Dumbledore. "Daddy, it's..."

"Yes, honey, I know who it is. He said he was sorry and he wants to help me with something-"

"Why did I have to wake up?! What's wrong?!! D-Did I do something bad!?! Are y-you sending m-me a-away?!"

"No! No, honey-"

"Remus. I would like for you to let Severus and Mr. Potter use your quarters for a bit... The goal is to say they both went to Severus' childhood home for the weekend. You will say you were aware of this and simply came to take back a book of yours, one you wished to read. I will say I wished to speak to you about one of your students, and decided to accompany you to retrieve your book. Understand?"

It was rushed, but he got the gist of what was to happen, so he nodded. "Severus. seal my quarters when you get in, alright?!"

"Daddy!" Harry shouted. "What's going on?!"

"I'll tell you in minute. First we have to go to Rem's quarters, okay? Just don't worry, we'll be fine," Severus lied. In truth, he had never been more frightened in his life. Even his father wasn't as bad as losing Harry. Nothing was.

"Say bye to Rem, Hare."

"Bye? Like forever?!"

"No, no, just for a bit. I promise, you'll see him soon." Making a promise he might not be able to keep was dangerous, he knew that, yet he did it anyway. "Go, Severus. I guarantee you, Umbridge is going to do anything she can... Remember? She tried to rally and tag werewolves?" Remus pointed out.

"Yeah, yeah, we're going. Don't let them trash this place, Remus. Don't tell them we're whatever we are."

"But they know, that's why they're here-"

"No, all they know is that you and Harry are very close and he sees you as a father figure of sorts. I would not tell you to lie about our relationship, but if you don't they might try even harder to take... you know who, and-"

"Alright. Go."

Severus hesitated. Running from a higher-up Ministry official. Not what he thought he would've done that day... Or have to hide his son.

"Sev. Go."

There was knocking on the portrait. "Dad-"

"We have to go. You need to be quiet, okay?" Severus said, leaving no room for question. He quietly walked to Remus' portrait and inside his quarters, making sure to silently cast multiple spells and charms that would prevent anyone coming in.

"What's going on?" Harry asked in a small voice as they sat in between Remus' bed and the wall. "Harry, listen to me," he responded. "Someone wants to take you away-"

"I don' wanna go!"

"I know. I know, so I'm going to try and keep you here for as long as possible. I don't know what to do, Harry... But I won't let them take you away from me, okay?"

"Promise?" Harry was sobbing, clutching the possessions he had brought with him. "Wh-What if they t-take me? I-I don' want to go! Where will I-I go?! Will-"

"Calm down..."

Harry was scared.

Severus was terrified.

What a great Saturday...

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Hello, Madame Umbridge," Dumbledore spoke calmly. "I'm not here for you, Dumbles, and you know that. Why is this... half-breed here?! Just get done shagging your faggot boyfriend?"
"No, I did not. I just returned from breakfast, and I was here to retrieve a book of mine I let Severus borrow. I'm sorry if this is a crime, I was not aware."
"Are you mocking me?!" the toad-like woman shouted. Toad like was almost an understatement. She was so short and squat, with barely any neck and so much makeup it was obvious how ugly she really was underneath it all. "Of course not. I am merely a dangerous half-breed, am I not?"
"Stupid bloody wolf..." she muttered. "Now, where is that Death Eater and stupid bloody child?!"
"I'm afraid you just missed them. Severus had made plans to take Hare to his childhood home for the weekend, to prepare for the Holiday break."
"What in Merlin's name do they need to prepare for?!"
"Well, Harry needs a bedroom there. He's lived at Hogwarts and loved it, but Severus plans on tidying up his old house and making a proper summer home for the two of them."
"You!" Umbridge barked to the young looking wizard next to her. "Search the place. Make sure they aren't here."
"Ma'am, it's against the law-"
"I don't care! No poof will raise Harry Potter! He's a savior, he doesn't need to be corrupted by queers and dangerous half breeds! Look at them! Neither of them have fathers! These kinds of people prey on children!"
"I am not Fenrir Greyback, Delores," Remus snarled. "And neither of us would ever hurt Harry. Harry feels safe for the first time in four years."
"And why is that?!"
"Because he was abused by the whale he was sent to live with, you bloody-"
"Remus!" Dumbledore warned. "Calm yourself. The two of you have very different beliefs, as you are aware."
"At least I don't think Muggleborns should be burned at the stake..." the wolf mumbled as he watched the wizard carefully. Most likely Umbridge's assistant, he decided. "So why're you here?" he asked, gesturing to him.
"Oh... um... well, I'm her assistant, and I need a paycheck... I'm Kandace, by the way. You?"
Remus was shocked, to say the least, at the politeness of the young man. "I'm Remus Lupin."
"Why does she call you a half-breed, if I may ask?" he questioned softly as Umbridge took it upon herself to search the quarters. "I was bitten by Fenrir Greyback because he and my father had a row. I'm a werewolf."
"My younger brother's a werewolf... She shouldn't treat people like that! We aren't even supposed to be here!" he confessed. "You aren't?"
"She's not in child services!" He quickly stopped talking as Umbridge joined them once more. "Well then. Why are you not with them?"
"Is it illegal to want a weekend alone with your son? I had a day with him yesterday, we went Christmas shopping."
"For whom?"
"Why must you know?"
"I just do!"
"We went shopping for Severus. We bought him a new jumper, Harry thought Severus needed more color in his wardrobe." He gestured to the bag still sitting on the table. "Kandace! Check it."
"'S just a pink jumper, ma'am. Nothing else."
"No, this is proof!" she cried. "Proof of what?"
"You've been corrupting him into your queer ways! No other little boy would choose pink! They would choose blue, or green!"
"Am I to assume that colors are now gendered, Madame?" Dumbledore cut in. "No, but-"
"Then why should it matter what color Harry chose? It's a pigment of color, a dye. He's a young boy, let him be."
"If I didn't know any better..." Umbridge started, "I'd think you're trying to stop me from retrieving the mudblood spawn..."
"What did you just call Lil?!" Remus shouted. "Never repeat that word in front of me, you toad!"
"Where are they, wolf!"
He smirked. "Go to hell. You have no authority taking a child from his father merely because said child has two father figures." He crossed his arms over his chest and glared at the absolute bitch in front of him.
She smiled.
"Show me your quarters, Mr. Lupin. If they are not there, I will retreat and leave you alone. If you do not show me, I will have you arrested for harbouring a fugitive."
Remus glanced at Dumbledore for an answer. They couldn't Stun them, then they could get arrested for assaulting a Ministry official. If they ran, they would arrest them for something.
Dumbledore gave a curt nod, and Remus lead them to his quarters; the long way, making sure it wouldn't be known that the quarters were connected. Thank Merlin the portraits are different... Remus though, thinking of the portrait that connected their quarters. Severus had a portrait of a white, fluffy husky. Remus had a portrait of a large, black dog.
Please be hidden somewhere good...
"Have a look around," he said, making sure to be louder than necessary. He thought he heard a few footsteps, but noticed that Umbridge was too busy shouting at her poor assistant for not being thorough enough.
The toad woman proceeded to break a bowl, and Remus saw red. One of the only things he had of his mother, and she had gone and broken it like a cow.
"That was my mothers..." he whispered. He knew it could be repaired with a quick and simple Reparo!, but when she smirked at him and stepped on the remains, he felt something almost... break inside of him.
His mother, was his only parent that loved him. His father, Lyall Lupin, loved him up until that day he got bit... Then, it was isolation. From him, and from his mother. His mother, on the other hand, Hope Lupin, and stuck by him, and made sure he was always okay after a transformation, even if she was a Muggle.
"Reparo," Remus whispered. He felt tears in his eyes. His mother died, his father disappeared.
He cradled it to his chest. "Do your stupid search and leave me alone. Break anymore of my possessions, I will press charges."
"No one will help a half breed like you."
"Kingsley will. I thought you wanted to search."
"We will find them, werewolf." She trotted off as Kandace shot him an apologetic look. Sorry he mouthed, before following.
"Dammit, Dumbledore!" he cursed under his breath. He hadn't thought that this would be a possibility.
He waited for an excruciating ten minutes, though it felt like hours, when he heard a triumphant shriek. With that, a figure dressed in all black shot out of Remus' bedroom and behind him.
"Sev?"
"Hmm," was his response, and he turned to Umbridge, who was advancing on him. "Hid in a closet with some measly charms! As a Potions Master, I thought you'd know better!"
"Those weren't measly charm, miss-"
"Shut your hole, Travis!" Umbridge shouted. "Kandace, miss-"
"I don't care! If I call you Travis, then you are Travis! Do you understand me?!"
"Yes'm."
"Good! Now, hand over the little brat!"
Harry clung to Severus' chest and hid his head. "Don' take me 'way," he whispered.
"Stupefy!" Umbridge shouted, and Remus fell to the floor. "Albus, now would be a good time to try something!" Severus snarled under his breath. With a quick Rennervate, Remus was wakened.
"Madame Umbridge, I have a proposition that would not cause Harry to undergo any more... traumatic experiences."
She growled. "What, you batty old man?!"
"Well, first off, I prefer the term mad, thank you very much, and two, I have a strong feeling that if you rip him away from the only family he's ever known, his magic could possibly lash out. James and Lily were both strong wizards and witches, no doubt Harry's magic will be just as strong."
"Ma'am, I think you should go for that. If his magic lashes out, it could do serious harm-"
"I KNOW, TRAVIS! AND DOES IT LOOK LIKE I CARE!" She reached out, barely gripping Harry's hair, and pulled. Hard. Harry screamed, yanked his head, and...
And he bit her hand.
"Ugh! You little heathen!" She raised her hand, about to strike, when Remus Stupefied her this time.
"Oh my God, oh my God, you Stunned my boss, she's going to kill me!" Kandace mumbled.
"Do stop mumbling, child. Now, would you mind accompanying Remus, Severus, Harry and I to the Ministry? I'm afraid I'm feeling a little lightheaded, so would you be able to Floo the toad?" he asked calmly, a twinkle in his eye as he was able to call her what she was; a toad.
"Y-Yes, sir..."
"No need to call me sir. Did you go to Hogwarts? You seem familiar..."
"Yes, sir, I graduated in nineteen seventy-nine, and I went to America to study, because my marks were... good..."
"If I remember right, a university in America paid for that trip because your marks were above brilliant, young man." The comment made the young man blush furiously.
"The Ministry?!" Severus snarled, cursing himself for doing so when Harry violently flinched. "Amelia Bones is your friend, is she not? I am aware that while she works in the Magical Law Enforcement office, she has some rather good acquaintances in the Child Services department. That is how you got Harry in the first place, correct?"
"Yes, and I wouldn't say we're friends. I'm going to Floo Lucy- Lucius first." He made his way to Remus' room and closed the door. While he was going to Floo Lucius, he also wanted to calm his son before they Floo'd to a busy building, bustling with people and House Elves and Goblins.
"Harry," he whispered. He was amazed at himself, being able to go from terrified to furious to calm and collected. He knew most people would be seething, but Harry was his main focus, and while yes, he was still angry, if he let that anger show it would only frighten Harry even more.
"Harry, can you look at me?" Severus softly questioned, tilting Harry's head up with his thumb and forefinger. "I-I-I don't w-wanna go!"
"You aren't, bambi. It's Daddy, okay? It's Sev. It's okay, bambi." Slowly, Harry looked up after a few minutes of coaxing. "D-Daddy! Sh-She... She..."
"She can't take you, Hare. Remember? I'm never letting you go, and I'm never giving you away."
"No! Sh-She hurt m-m-my h-head! A-And I..."
"Can I look at your head?" Severus asked. He received a nod, and he began to carefully look through Harry's hair. He saw what Umbridge did, it was very possible that she had done something worse.
She did.
"Oh, Hare... I'm sorry, bambi..." he said as he found a small patch of hair that was matted with blood. "I'll heal it right now, okay? It won't hurt at all, I promise."
"O-Okay..." Harry shifted as Severus healed his head, the wetness in his pyjamas becoming uncomfortable. "Are you okay?"
"I-I-I... I didn' try to!" he cried. "I didn' mean it!"
"What happened?"
"Y-You'll get m-mad!"
"No, I won't. What happened, Hare? Tell me, talk to me..."
"I-I... I'm sorry... Big boys aren' s'posed to..." He shifted once more, and this time, Severus noticed. "Oh, Harry," he said softly. "Did you pee in your pyjamas?"
"I didn' want to! I promise, I swear-"
"It's okay, it's okay, it's okay. You did nothing wrong. Let me go tell Remus-"
"Don't leave!"
"Do you think you'll be okay if you come out there?" He nodded. Severus, deciding a third option he came up with, called for Remus to come.
"Hey, Harry. Sev, are you guys ready to go?"
"No... Remus... Hare, is it okay if I tell him?" Harry nodded after a moment, and retreated back to his hiding place under Remus' robes. "Rem, he peed in his pyjamas after Umbridge pulled his hair. She made him bleed, Remus. That is assault. Anyway, he needs a bath, he needs to calm down."
"Do we have time? I mean, she's supposed to be at the Ministry! What happens if they notice she's gone..."
"I don't care, Remus. I'm not going to force him to go to a building full of people, staring at him, whispering. And, I still have to Floo Lucy."
"Lucy's comin'?" Harry whispered. "Yes, Harry. Lucy's going to help us with all of this, so it never happens again. Now, let's get you a bath and some new pyjamas. How about your ones with the footies on them?"
"M-My dragon?"
"Yes, bambi, or any other pair you want."
"I-I like th-the dragons..."
"Okay. Bubbles too?" Harry nodded with a small smile. Bubbles were fun.
"D-Daddy... I'm sorry... I-I r-ruined them, a-and y-you paid m-money for them a-and-"
"Harry, look at me. Sometimes, even big boys wet the bed, or pee in their pyjamas. It is okay. It always will be, and I can clean pyjamas easily. If this ever happens again, I want you to come and tell me, okay?"
"B-But-"
"You have done nothing wrong. Now, let's go get your bubble bath ready!" He tried to sound even a tad bit excited, just to raise Harry's spirits, but failed. Miserably. Though Harry did seem happier, most likely because of the bubbles. "P-Pappy?"
"Yes, Hare?"
"W-Why was th-the man here? Why d-did you p-pass out?"
"He's here to help us, and it was a spell. Now, I have to go ask Dumbledore a few things." He left the room, slightly irate, and shut the door softly. "H-He's mad?"
"Not mad at you, at that lady. Now, bubbles!"
"Thanks, Daddy."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

After a short bath with blue bubbles, Harry was in his fluffy, blue and green dragon pyjamas with footies, hair shiny and clean, though it stood up horribly in the back. He curled into Severus' side as he closed his eyes, wanting to sleep, and whined when Severus stood. "Daddy!?"

"I have to Floo Lucy, bambi. You'll be able to see me, don't worry, but my head is going to be in the fireplace. Come." Harry gripped Severus' hand so tightly his knuckles turned white. "You may sit next to me, but do not pull or push me. If something happens, I can still hear you, and I will come out myself. Understood?"

"O-Okay..."

He watched carefully as Severus pulled a small amount of powder from his pocket and threw it in the small flame.

Severus leaned forward and closed his eyes after saying 'Malfoy Manor!', and was thankful to instantly see Lucius sitting in an armchair, reading glasses on, reading the Daily Prophet. "Lucius," he said simply.

"Severus. How are you?"

"Skip the small talk. Umbridge came and tried to take Harry. I have no clue what to do."

"Sev-"

"Please?"

"The Ministry doesn't like me much, even if I am higher up and you know that. They hated my father, and they don't like me much either."

"You aren't your father, Lucius. You joined the Death Eaters because you were taught that was right. Racism and sexism are learned behaviors. You learned them from your father, and you're trying to make it better."

"I'll help as much as I can, but I must let Narcissa know, and I must be back before ten. I'm taking Draco out today."

"Okay. Thank you, Lucius."

He pulled his head out of the flames, Harry immediately latching onto him. "Don' like you d-doin' that..."

"Lucy's going to come over, alright?"

"O-Okay..."

"Harry... We need to go to the Ministry. It has a lot, a lot of people."

"P-People!?!"

"I know, it's going to be frightening, but we need to. I wouldn't make you if we did not have to, but we do, just to sort this all out."

"But-"

"No one will hurt you and no one will take you. We will most likely be in an office with a very nice lady, and they will be somewhere else. If you want, you may bring Lily, or your bat, and you can out the hood up and hide from it all. I understand."

"D-Do I have to talk to p-people?"

"Hopefully not..." he trailed off as Lucius stepped through the fireplace.

With that, they were off, and terrified.
