You were lying in the bed in the hospital, wide awake, as you have been for the past 4 hours. You were sure that the Thunderman family were getting worried about why you weren't getting up, judging by the amount of times they came in to check up on you.

When you heard the door click open again, you shut your eyes and turned so your back was facing whoever entered.

"I know you're awake, (Y/N)," Riley spoke, startling you, "I can sense it."

You didn't budge.

"You know you're awake. I know you're awake. So why are we both pretending that you're not."

You didn't open your eyes when he sat beside you and even snored to make a point but he laughed at you, amused, "You're being ridiculous."

You snored again.

"Alright, if you are actually asleep, I might have to wake you." He said contemplatively and you felt him get up.

For a second you thought he might be leaving before he shoved you off the bed.

"Hey!" You yelled from your place on the floor. You glared at Riley but he returned it with an infuriating grin.

"I'm trying to sleep!"

He snorted, "Still pretending that you were actually asleep?"

"Yes." You huffed, sitting back onto the bed and he settled next to you. You promptly kicked him for payback but he caught your foot and tugged harshly and you ended up hitting your head against the wall.

"Why are you annoying me so early in the morning?" You asked, annoyed.

A look of disbelief crossed his face, "Early in the—it's 4 in the afternoon!"

You raised a brow, "Your point is?"

He sighed, taking you hand in his and you already knew he was beginning to use his powers on you and in hindsight, his powers always seemed to bring something good along with it, "What's wrong (Y/N)? Why don't you want to see them? They're really worried about you."

You licked your lip, ashamed to even look at him, "I'm embarrassed. They all had begged me not to leave. I made a decision based on pure impulse, and look where that got me."

Riley sighed, leaning over and brushing a lock of hair behind your ear, "You know the worst thing about being an empath?"

You looked up at him, having caught your attention, "What?"

"It's that I'm super aware of my emotions, so even if I'm feeling really angry, I can sense it before anything and it makes me control myself. So I can never really do something without thinking, on impulse."

You leaned forward, patting his arm gently in a poor means of consolation and he sent you a bright smile, "From what I've noticed though, when you do something on impulse, you're just portraying how you really feel, doing what your heart wants, and that might not be all bad."

You snorted, "You know, you really didn't have to tell me that first part, you could have just skipped to the advice."

He laughed, ruffling your hair affectionately, "I needed time to think about what to tell you."

You grinned and he got up, heading towards the door, "I'll tell them you're awake now."

"Wait!"

"What?"

You bit your lip nervously, "Adam. He's out of surgery, right?"

He paused and sighed, "He's still in critical condition, but keep your chin up, he has an amazing sister waiting for him, why wouldn't he wake up?"

You sent him a small smile, "Thank you, for everything."

He snorted, "You sound like I'm leaving forever. I'll send them in."

You didn't have to wait long before the thunder-clan came in, giving you cautious smiles.

Phoebe settled onto the bed beside you, wrapping an arm around your figure, "How're you feeling?"

"Better than I thought I would be."
