《A Little Good Influence | Max Thunderman x Reader》Chapter 3

The time you spent wondering what to wear today was time you could have spent packing your bag. Now you were running late and struggling to put the pin in your hair as you shut the door behind you with your foot and pressed the button at the zebra crossing with your knee.
You huffed, a frown on your face. It was morning rush hour, people were going to get to where they needed to be on time, except for you it seems. It would be a whole 10 minutes before you could cross the road, you knew this, which is why you often leave the house before the rush. It would have to take a miracle or a snow day for you to be able to cross the road and get to school on time. A loud honk brought you out of your thoughts as you saw an old lady cross the road with a leash in hand. In confusion, you looked at the signal but it was still red, why was she crossing?
Taking a closer look at her, you realized she was blind and that was her seeing eye dog. Deciding to not waste time, you sprinted across the street and onto the pavement. Readjusting your bag comfortably on your shoulder, you power-walk to school. You walked forward and was about to pass the building that was getting re-painted, you kept that as a milestone in your head because there were short-cut 2 buildings after it.
'It' so sunny today.' You thought as you walked underneath the awning of a salon. The building was coming up and there was no awning there to shade you. You slightly pouted, you didn't hate sunlight, you just disliked it when it was warm enough for you to feel your skin burning. You squinted as you stepped into the light and used a hand to shield yourself.
The harsh sunlight was blinding you so you didn't notice the person you bumped into. The man gave you a harsh shove to the wall and you yelped, feeling a sharp pain against your arm, not sparing you a glance and walking forward. You turned to glare at him, just in time to a bucket of bright pink paint crash against his head, covering him in the sticky paint. He immediately began cursing and you let out a few giggles before stifling your laughter with one hand and rubbing the sore spot on your arm with the other.

As you neared the school, you could see that there were no more students outside, which meant that school had already started. You ran inside the building, praying that your homeroom teacher was called for a meeting and didn't take attendance yet. As you neared the classroom, you began slowing down and trying to catch your breath and then you pushed the door open, head bowed in case the teacher was feeling prickly.
"Happy Birthday (Y/N)!" You looked up in shock to see your whole class standing there, Phoebe in the front with a cake in her arms as they began to sing for you. You had dropped your bag in shock, both hands covering your mouth and your eyes as wide as saucers. The chalk board even had your name scribbled out in big, bold letters.
"Wha-Oh my gosh! I can't even- You guys! Thank you!" You scrambled for words as they each began giving you hugs, Cherry and Phoebe hugging you the last and longest.
"Happy Birthday (Y/N)." The brunette said and handed you a small box. You smiled widely and whispered to her that you'd open it later.
The class erupted into giggles as the teacher came into the class and looked suspiciously at the chalk board and then at you, wearing a birthday cap and having a cake on your table and conveniently said that she had forgotten to put on her contacts this morning while she marked you present.

As a treat for your birthday, Phoebe and Cherry had taken you to the mall to shop (though more likely than not you would be taking selfies in clothes that probably costs more than your tuition fees). You went from store to store, making a mess and a couple of enemies with those who had to clean them up.
When it got close to lunch, Phoebe and Cherry said that they'd go and get lunch while you were trying to wrestle out of a particularly tight dress. After you finally got it off (you realized that the pin in your hair kept catching the fabric of the dress. You were lucky it didn't rip).

You were in the elevator and you were a couple of floors before reaching the floor Phoebe and Cherry were on. You waited patiently, humming a jolly tune when the lift stopped, a floor before yours. The doors opened with a ding and your greatest enemy came strolling inside.
"Max Thunderman. What a pleasure." You seethed and he rolled his eyes.
"And here's the she-beast in person, I'd feel honoured if it weren't so ugly." He says and you scoff.
"What are you doing here?"
"A person can't just go to the mall?" He shot, "Well, a person can but since you're some kind of alien dog, I'm not so sure." You shoot back.
He rolls his eyes, "For your information, I'm here to give Phoebe her purse, after I filled it with month-old chili." He says, triumphantly and you snort, "You're disgusting."
"You think you could do better?" "I know I could do better!"
The light suddenly flickering broke your argument and you realized that the elevator had stopped moving.
Max groaned in exasperation, "Great! Why d'ya gotta be so fat! You broke the elevator!"
You gasped, "Excuse me?! It was working fine until you got here! You overweight nincompoop!"
He ignored you, "And after I spent my bucks on month-old chili! Chili that's a month plus a day is not nearly as bad as month-old chili!"
You grimaced and just slid to the floor and pulled out your phone, "Great! No reception!"
Max followed suit and slid to the floor, leaning against the wall opposite to you. "Don't put your smelly feet on my side." You snapped and kicked his legs away, "As long as you don't open your mouth with that reeking breath of yours."
You scoffed, face turning red. 'My pin must be searing.' You thought as you reached for the pin, expecting to come in contact with some metal, instead your fingers just combed through your hair a couple of times, looking for the hair ornament, panic bubbling in your insides.
"If you're trying to fix your hair, there's no hope for a nest like that."
You glared at Max who was smirking at you and a scowl took over your features.
"I knew it was a good luck charm." You said and Max looked curious, "Good luck charm?"
"My hair pin-" You began and he cut you off, "Oh, that eye-sore? It makes you looks like you're dressing for a re-enactment club meeting."
"My hair pin," You repeated with gritted teeth, "Saved me from a bunch of things this morning and also got me out of trouble while everyone was celebrating my birthday in that class."
"Everyone celebrated your birthday?" "Wish you had a friend that would do that don't you?"
He rolled his eyes, "Please, everyone should be mourning the sorrowful day you were born." He said and your glare got even more murderous (if possible).
"And as soon as I take it off, I get stuck in this elevator with you!" You huffed and he looked at you incredulously, "Then your dumb monstrosity wishes for my day to go bad as well!"
The both of you met eyes and you turned away, huffing, "We're never getting out of here, it already feels like an eternity!" Max moaned.
"At least there are no cameras here, then I could commit murder without anyone knowing, then at least I could spend the time here in this insufferable box in peace!"
"You're such a drama queen, it's barely been 30 minutes!" Max tutted and you scoffed, "Who was it saying it felt like an eternity?"
"Who was it wanting to commit murder! -"
"WHY DID I HAVE TO TAKE OFF THAT PIN!!"
