《Dear, JJ | JJ Maybank》06. trophy wife.

trophy wife.
Otto lied in the hammock with Kie sitting beside her, and Maria sitting on the other side of Kie. Laying back she was wearing JJ's sunglasses.
She kept mumbling complaints and cursing the sun, something about wanting external darkness and to fuck all the consequences. JJ, who was sitting in a chair beside the hammock heard them, he didn't even bother to stand up, he just chucked the stolen frames onto her lap.
She didn't complain.
She and JJ were also sharing a blunt, the third of the day the duo went through.
To be fair, they had spaced them out over a good few hours so neither of them stumbling all over the place.
The golden afternoon sun bathed the group.
Soft snores could be heard from Maria, her and Kie's relationship was good - at the moment - and Otto began properly getting to know her. They got along really well.
She got along with the entire group, although Pope and Belly were a little obsessed with one another, meaning they didn't spend as much time with the group as Kie and Maria did.
Otto probably didn't spend enough time with her boyfriend, if she was being honest with herself, which she wasn't, she wasn't that into him. She truly only agreed because she liked him enough that she didn't mind spending time with him, but not enough to spend a lot of time with him.
And now she felt bad for him, she knew how much it hurt to be cheated on and how that can affect future relationships.
But she always showed up to whatever he called her for, whether that be a barbecue at the Harrington manor were women and men were separated. A concept that made Otto want to drown herself in the Olympic sized swimming pool or something else just as ghastly. Wes only brought her along to show her off, like she was a object and not a person.
She was a trophy wife without all the benefits.
Wes liked her way more than she liked him, that was painfully obvious, it was one of the reasons she stayed with him. It was a dumb and counter-productive reason, but she truly felt bad for him.

A few times they were together she could've sworn he was going to tell her he loved her.
She assumed the terrified look on her face scared him off.
Kie was rocking the hammock back and forth with her feet which slowly but surely coaxed Otto into sleep. Once asleep JJ stared at her for a little too long, the last time she looked this peaceful was the night they met. Normally she looked tense, her jaw tight and eyebrows always ever so slightly pinched together
She dreamed, likely due to the THC in her system working its magic.
She dreamt of a holiday, the dream was rather nonsensical, the holiday was being held on the moon. But what was more important was who was there. Everyone surrounded a circular dinner table; like the ones used at important conferences that makes everyone feel equal. Otto was obviously in attendance, as was Dolly Parton, who sat to her right, then to her right was David Attenborough, then Greta Thumberg, then Pedro Pascal and finally, sitting to Otto's left was JJ Maybank.
She had no clue what the table could talk about that she and JJ could every join in on.
But it was a dream, that didn't matter.
Her dream was cut short when someone flicked her forehead, Otto shot up, her hand flying to her forehead.
"What the fuck was that for?" She asked looking at Kie who looked a little too pleased with herself.
She then noticed the warm golden light had disappeared, the afternoon had turned into night.
The group moved indoors to escape bleeding out via mosquitoes.
Feeling thirsty Otto walked over to the fridge, then there was pounding on the front door.
Otto looked at the group with a puzzled look, the trio that had gone through the gold hunt last summer looked worried. Otto wasn't nearly as cautious, she put down her drink and walked the half a dozen steps to the front door.
Wes.
A very angry Wes.
What confused Otto was that he was dressed in formal wear, he had ditched the jacket and the tie hung loosely around his neck but everything else was in order.

He pushed himself a few feet into the house, letting the rickety front door slam closed behind him. "You better have a good reason that you weren't at the charity gala tonight." He seethed.
"Charity gala? Wes, you didn't tell me anything about a charity gala." She sounded a little confused.
The group all listened cardful, their conversation was cut off. None of them liked Wes, he was from the richest family on the island, and he was a notorious arse.
"I texted and called you a thousand fucking times!" His calm front slipped, "And you where here of all places? With you little friends in a some shitty derelict house?"
Otto bit her tongue, she couldn't say what she wanted to say. She didn't want to piss him off. She had forgiven Wes for his actions weeks ago, but she hadn't forgotten. Since that afternoon she was cautious, never wanting to set him off, always trying to diffuse his anger.
"I'm sorry, Wes. I would've been there had I known." She said uncharacteristically calmly.
Maria had stood up to go to the kitchen to grab herself a drink, to which JJ had followed.
"We're leaving." He stated, leaving no room for her opinion. She showed hesitance which was not okay with him, his hand shot out and grabbed Otto's biscep.
That was not okay with any of them, but Maria was the first one to act. "Get your fucking hands off her or I swear to God I will cut every one of the off with a blunt butter knife."
JJ began walking over, his gun was tucked in his bedroom although he wished he had it on him. Everyone else was glad it was in the bedroom.
Wes tugged his girlfriend. Otto simply gave in and walked with him, "I'll see you guys later." She smiled to them. JJ gave her a worried look, then mouthed 'you okay' and she nodded.
"What have I told you about hose pogues! You have no fucking clue what they are capable of, they are murderers, Otto. Murderers. I am trying to save you and this is what I get in return? You embarrass me in front of my friends, my family, my colleagues and possible investors? You are so God damn lucky I l-- care about you. I can promise you that if I ever find you hanging out with them while you are meant to be with me, your boyfriend, I will make you regret it."
Silent. Otto was silent. He had made her speechless.
Not a word was said the entire ride from one side of the island to the other, Otto could actually feel the anger pouring off of Wes.
She just wanted to go home, she didn't want to be with him while he was angry. But she also didn't think questioning him right now was wise, so they pulled into his garage.
It took all of three seconds for Wes to get out of the car and slam the door shut. Otto followed behind him, although where he stormed, she walked.
He arrived at his room a full thirty records before she did, and in that time he had pulled out some pills. She watched him take them from the door frame, Otto didn't have the foggiest clue what she was meant to do.
The teenager walked toward him, in the hopes of calming him down. She made it to the mirror sitting next to the chest of drawers he was gripping like his life depended on it.
Wes turned toward her, she couldn't see his fist curl into a fist until it was already too late. He pulled back his hand and as hard as he could he smashed it toward her face.
She flinched, expecting pain.
But all she felt was something graze past her cheek. Then she heard glass shatter.
Wes was just trying to scare her.
It had worked.
When he pulled his fist back it almost instantly began to bleed, Wes looked his girlfriend dead in the eyes.
"Stay the fuck away from them."
