Peyton
I looked down at the very small pile of books on the cart that needed to be put away. I could carry it in my hands.
I walked around, putting the books and sighing as I heard a female giggling. I knew why, but I just chose to ignore it.
I heard a squeal of excitement, smiling as I recognized it as Rae's. She saw Jimin first since I was hiding behind a bookcase. I watched between the books, as he immediately opened his arms for her, engulfing her into a quick hug. The father came over, looking at his little daughter.
"I'll watch her, go enjoy your lunch date," Jimin assures him, patting his shoulder as her father shot him a grateful look. Rae looks to the girl standing next to Jimin, jumping straight to the questions.
"Who is she?", she stared at the unfamiliar face, not bothering to look happy or ask nicely. The girl gave her a friendly smile, not realizing how unhappy Rae looked. "Where's PeyPey?"
I sweetly smiled at the name, putting away the last book. I walked around, pretending to be walking over to push the cart into the back. I heard squealing, and chuckling behind me.
"PeyPey!", Rae ran over to me, jumping into my waiting arms as she giggled loudly. I held her on my hip, pushing the cart a bit further so it was out of the way.
"How are you?", I ask her, poking a finger to her nose. She crosses her eyes, staring at it while I laugh at her cute face.
"I'm happy now that I can see you!", my heart will melt. Kids normally ran away from me. I hugged her close to me, feeling her frown against my hair. "Who is Jiminie talking to?"
I almost squealed at the nickname she gave him, it was absolutely adorable.
"I don't know, I think he likes her though," I tell her, sitting in the spinning chair behind the counter. I sit her on my lap, watching her stare at the two laughing over something.

"He can't like her!", she exclaimed, jumping off the chair and running around to go over to him. I chased after her, shaking my head at what she would do. Kids didn't understand adults yet. "Jiminie!"
She jumped up at him, catching his attention as she waved her arms at him. I caught up with her, standing a few steps away.
"Aw, that's a cute name for you," the girl cooed at Rae, lightly frowning as Rae wrapped her tiny arms around Jimin's neck.
"Yeah, and only PeyPey and I can call him that," I held in a laugh, turning around to hide my smile. The kid was a genius.
I heard the girl force a laugh, while Jimin tried to hide the smile on his face. He pretended to put a frown on his face, looking at Rae.
"Don't say mean things," he scolded her, watching as her lip began to quiver.
"I want PeyPey!", she wiggled out from his arms, running over to me and wrapping her arms around my leg. One leg only. I stroked her hair, trying to calm her down. I didn't want to see her cry again.
I picked her up, swinging her in my arms and spinning around in a circle. She started to giggle, clapping her hands the best she could. I stopped spinning, bringing her close to my face so I could pull a silly face.
She squeezed my cheeks, making me look like a fish. She giggled more, throwing her head back. She let go of my cheeks, frowning again.
"Let's go over there," I started to walk over to the counter, plopping her on top of it when I got there. She looked behind me, possibly and most likely staring at Jimin. "What's wrong?"
"Why are boys so confusing?"
I wasn't expecting that to leave her mouth. "How old are you RaeRae?"
"Seven!", she told me happily, while I nodded my head at her.

"Why are boys confusing you?", I ask curiously, watching as she held her head in her hands, staring up at me.
"There's this boy in my class, he always messes with me. He says he likes me, but he always laughs with his friends when I'm around," she explains her crisis to me, while I tried not to giggle at her cute frown.
"Why don't you tell him to stop?", I suggest to her, watching as her eyes lift up. "Tell him to treat you like a friend if he likes you."
"What about Jiminie?", she asked, looking directly at me. I raised an eyebrow at her, while she tried to copy me. She looked hilarious, I let out a laugh, scrunching my nose up at her.
"What do you mean?", I ask, looking behind me seeing him lean against the bookcase, while the girl smiled up at him. They've been talking all morning.
"Doesn't Jiminie like you?", she giggles, poking at my now red cheeks. "You like him!"
I start to tickle her, watching her writhe around as she laughed loudly. I tried to quiet her down, but she continued to laugh.
"Jiminie!", she called his name, surprising me since it was so sudden. He must've not heard her, which didn't sit well with Rae at all. She started to cry, rather loudly. She carefully watched as he snapped his head up to her, while I tried to comfort her.
"What's wrong RaeRae?", I heard his voice say behind me, while RaeRae winked at me. I looked at her surprised, taking a step away as she continued to tear up.
"I want Jiminie," she softly answered him, sending him a sad frown. "You aren't playing with me and PeyPey."
"I'm talking to a friend, RaeRae," he tried to reason with her, but she made her lip quiver more.
"I don't like her," RaeRae states, frowning deeper when the girl starts to come over to Jimin. She obviously didn't care if the girl heard her, she spoke loudly anyway.
"RaeRae, don't be mean," he spoke quietly to her, while she gently thrashed around, throwing a fake fit. She was only doing this get his attention.
"PeyPey," she called me over, holding her arms out for a hug. I waddled over, wrapping my arms around her small body. Her hand moved, pulling Jimin into this hug too. "Jiminie."
"I think I'm gonna get going," a voice speaks from behind us, Rae hugged him tighter, keeping an arm around both of our necks.
Jimin carefully put both of her arms around me so he could say goodbye to the girl. "So soon?"
"You look like you have your hands full," she said to him, as I sensed a bitter tone within in. RaeRae softly weepers in my arms, only loud enough for Jimin to hear her. "Bye."
"RaeRae," Jimin said her name, while she looked up at him sadly. She knew he wouldn't be able to be mad at her. He already cared for her too much to stay mad.
"Jiminie, you're supposed to take care of PeyPey. Not anyone else," she whined, squeezing me tighter. "You'll make me sad if you don't."
"RaeRae, you can't be sad when I talk to other people," he explains to her, frowning at her tearing up face.
"Just promise to take care of PeyPey first," she begged him, pulling her strongest puppy dog eyes. She jutted out her bottom lip, just to add in case it didn't work the first time.
"Okay, I promise," he sighs, falling too deep into her trap. She wiggles on the counter, pulling my face to look at her.
"See," she whispered to me, while I stared at her confusedly. "He likes you."
No, RaeRae, he doesn't. He just cares about you a lot.

Touch
Touch is a story about a boy named James, and his friends: a group of young, superpowered people brought together by trauma; all trying, in their own ways, to come to terms with what that trauma means to them and who they want to be in response to it. This is a learning process, and mistakes are made, but they grow, learn, and adapt to these difficulties in ways that some might say only young people can. While it may look it at first, this is not intended as a sad story, merely an honest one. I wanted to make the characters human, and unfortunately, that means that difficulties hit them in very real ways through the story, but then again, they have some equally human moments of warmth between one another as they grow. Triggers: Explores the aftereffects and recovery process of sexual abuse, and some other forms of physical abuse. I like to think I avoided making it edgy, but you deserve to be informed. Some readers have told me that it can feel a bit too real at times. A bit too honest. If you like what you read, feel free to comment or review. I like the feedback. Or you can vote for Touch on TopWebFiction. Touch also now has both a Discord and a Patreon! Updates weekly.
