Spiral staircase descends

Every step reverberates

Creak and crack within

Broken and rustic

A pungent filled bucket

Pictures weather worn and faded

A tarnished golden locket

Music no longer hovers in the halls

Corridors decorated in discarded shawls

Memories murmur within the chambers

Derelict walls showing the mason's trawl

Brick and mortar have begun to crumble

In the darkness there is a rumble

Foundations have become fractured

I begin to trip and stumble

Searching through litter strewn rooms

Trying to brush back the curtains gloom

Golden rays refract between particulates

I peer upon the hope of noon.
