What's the point of things to be

Is there anything in all this uncertainty

Do we chase the things that appear so plainly

Or do we follow the shadows that are ever elusive

Does success or failure hide within their folds

Is it pain or pleasure that lurks untold

How do we decipher what our future holds

I'm so afraid of what's to come

Is there a future that's worth living

How do you succeed in a world that's grieving

Those that smile could be deceiving

And those that cry are looking for a handout

I just want to scream and shout

This frustration has taken its hold

I hope that bitterness does not begin to mold

Me into someone I would not recognize

If I looked back into these weary blue eyes

Ten years from now would I still be the man I am

Or would I be a shadow standing where there was once a kind man

What do we base our life's decisions on

Could one wrong word cause ripples on a pond

A brilliant butterflies' wings flap

Nations fall from that shallow breeze

Who do we become in a world so angry

Do we adapt and do things that come strangely

I will not bend my knee to a world so near the edge

My back will remain strong and I will not go near that ledge

I won't become that which the world seems to embellish

Kindness and gentleness a giving heart are who I am

This chaos will not end me

I will stand strong for those who would free

Free from the "isms" that tare at our nation

I will stand strong in the face of the wind

I will stand strong for those few who would love the world
