I am turmoil twisted

A rusty fence bent to the point of break

Barbed wire dulled and degraded

Luster long lost

I am damaged and dilapidated

A rotted post rooted in the soil

Black beetles scavenging every pocked tunnel

Creaks and cracks with every push and pull

Integrity incrementally isolated

I am weary and weathered

Unattended and forever forgotten

Musty moss clings and climbs

Where the sun no longer shines

Thorny briars strangle and separate

Stretching languished links

I am the image of a past purpose

I am the memory of a different life

I am the fence

Still standing but a year from failure.
