There is a flowing fog over my eyes

Underwater staring through silted shallows

The harder I squint the more shadows appear

The strain to focus compromises clarity

Do I wander in the world

With weakened weary eyes

Blood shot and blown pupils

From trying to catch a glimpse behind the veil

Or do I take it one day at a time

No future or past

Just making memorable and monumental moments

I have to retrain my brain

And try to refrain

From gazing too far

Because all I have been able to find

Is a blindness to my situational awareness

Letting days slip by

Like mud clenched in a fist

Squirting between calloused cracked knuckles

I need to adjust my eyes

To see the perfect prize before me

Or that too will slip away.
