I had a random thought today

One of many I must say

Racing through a not so distant past

Time has flown by so fast

Many things have changed with time

But some have stayed as if by design

All the fights I’ve been through in life

All the sleepless nights do to strife

But one constant I came to realize

Is how strong I’ll stand for the demoralized

How hard I’ll swing for someone bullied

Or the lady whose reputation sullied

I will not suffer a fool

Who uses a woman as a tool

Or the compensating man

Who rubs someone’s nose in the sand

But when it comes to me

I allow such ferocious brutality

I was taught how to fight for everyone else

But somehow never learned to defend myself

So I continue to take the beatings

While lifting all those whom I can

Set them all upon my shoulders

While the canes continue to strike my ribs

Bruised and flushed

Teeth gnashed and brow furrowed

All that goes through my mind

Is I take the pain today

So all those can live a day of peace tomorrow

A day away from sorrow

I have never learned to fight for myself

But for those in need I’ll bleed.
