"Barry- we have a major last minute problem." I say to him, swinging my feet lightly, as he was out, battling King Shark.
"Yep-" His voice comes through the line of the comms, "Fighting it right now."
"No- not about that- it's about our wedding- that is less than 24 hours- remember?" I told him, monitoring what was going on out there, along with everything with our wedding at the same time.
"Right now isn't the best time-" His voice comes in a grunt, the sound of glass shattering and electricity crawling following his words.
"Okay- well the caterers need a final count tomorrow morning and not everyone has RSVP'd yet." I hit my palm against the desk.
"Who hasn't RSVP'd?" He asked, out of breath.
"Oliver and Felicity, The Legends- Kara, Mon-El-" I listed, "It's practically the majority of all the superheroes."
"I'm sure their RSVP's will come in soon- I'll deal with the caterers-" Barry assures me, as my head snaps up once Joe turns around, ready to leave.
"Joe! Hey-" I held my pen up, "I have a question for you."
"What's up?" Joe stops, looking at me.
"Since- I don't have any- father to walk me down the aisle, I was wondering-" I hesitantly spoke, hoping he would say yes, "I was wondering- since you've always been the father figure I never had- if you would- walk me down the aisle? Of course- only if you want to. If not- I could ask Harry or something-"
Joe nods, a smile forming on his lips, "I'd love to."
"All right- thank you." I clap my hands together, as he laughs at me, leaving me alone in the cortex.
"That was cute." Barry's voice came through the comms, causing me to let out a shriek, startled, forgetting that he had listened to the entire thing and was still there.
"Oh my god-" I let out a shaky breath, "You just gave me a heart attack."
"I love you-" He drags out, making a smile form on my lips.
-
"Zee- you are really glowing." Felicity says, bubbled with excitement as she walks over to me, handing me a glass of champagne, before returning to where she sat in the nail salon we were all at.
"Oh wait, it's pregnant women that glow, brides blush." Caitlin corrects, smiling at me.
"Hey- there will be a time when there's a little Zee- or little Barry up in there." Iris lightly hits my stomach playfully.
"Not just yet." I shook my head, laughing lightly.
"Well- you got the guy." Caitlin smiles at me.
"I did." I mumble, smiling up at them, "I got the guy."
"Oh, it doesn't get better than this, ladies." Felicity chirps, letting the women return back to painting her nails.
"I know- it feels so good to just be away from it all." Kara admits.
"Where's Mon-El?"' asked Iris West from beside me, sipping some of her champagne.
"You know what-" Kara sighs, "It's a long story. But thank you for letting me bring my sister as my plus one."
"I can't wait to meet her." I smile softly.
"Me too-" Felicity smiles.
Our conversation was cut off at the sound of electricity crackling, the tool the woman doing Kara's nails was using breaking, her eyes wide as she stared at the machine, Kara immediately speaking up, "Oh, I'm sorry. I should've warned you. I take a lot of keratin."
"Super strong nails." Felicity comments.

"Oh yeah-" I back up.
"So- Felicity- what about you and Oliver?" I question, "Any chance you'll be next walking down the aisle?"
"Maybe once the city isn't being attacked and Oliver is no longer under indictment and has spent enough time with his son who is still mourning the loss of his mother-" Felicity trails off.
"So- any day now?" Caitlin shrugs.
"Any day now." Felicity chuckles.
"Well, cheers, Zee, to your big day." Caitlin held up her glass, everyone saying cheers, taking a sip of their champagne, a smile remaining permanent on my lips.

"You know, I mean, I've been in love with Zee for the past- four years. How am I supposed to fit all that love into one vow?" I say, fixing my tux, "I've already written 38 pages, single spaced."
"You could always speed-read it." Oliver suggests from the room he was in, while he was getting dressed into a tux of his own.
"No, no one would understand me." I huff, "I don't know what to do, man, I need help."
"Barry, when you're up there, and you look into her eyes-" Oliver's voice comes closer, signaling he had come out of the room, as I turned, looking at him, my eyes slightly widening at how well he cleaned up, "The words will come. And if they don't, the look on your face will tell her everything that she needs to know."
"You clean up nice, my friend." He shoves his hands in his pockets.
I step down next to him, chuckling, "Thanks. Yeah, you, too."
"I can't believe you're really doing this." The corners of Oliver's mouth turn up genuinely.
"Yeah, man. What can I say, I got the girl." I smile at him, "And, so did you. You ever think about making it official?"
"Again? Yeah." Oliver admits, "Um I think that with everything going on right now, it's just not the right time."
"You love her?" I ask.
"I love her so much." Oliver nods.
"Put a ring on her." I told him, "People like us are always going to be getting into trouble, right? Having someone we love by our side just makes getting out of that trouble that much easier. We have something to fight for." I sigh, "If I can have my happy ending, so can you. I promise."
"I'm supposed to be the all-knowing mentor." Oliver comments.
"I have been known to catch up." I joke lightly, as he just nods, walking away, "What's wrong? You didn't react to my joke." I wave him off, returning back to fixing my tie, "Oh. That's fine, he got it."

"You asked Kara to sing at our wedding?" I ask, as I stood with Barry at the rehearsal party hosted at Jitters for our wedding, dressed in a black dress, that was tight to my skin.
"Hey- she has a really good voice." Barry smiles down at me.
"Then I can't wait." I kiss his cheek, holding his hands. "Don't you find it weird that there hasn't been any meta attacks today?"
"Yeah- it's peaceful." Barry shrugs.
"It's weird." I point at him.
"That's not the point right now- the point is- I can't believe that I'm finally marrying you." Barry's smile widens, pulling me close.
"You only gotta wait one more night." I smile up at him, "Tomorrow- you're gonna be a married man."

"I am." Barry presses his lips into mine.
"Can I have everybody's attention for a second? Grab a drink-" Joe's voice catches everyone's attention, the sound of him hitting his glass lightly with his spoon, causing us to pull away, grabbing our drinks, looking at him, "All right. So, the old man has a few words to say."
"What can I possibly say about Barry and Zee that everyone in this room doesn't already know? How they're special, and kind, and brave. But we all know that, so, I'm gonna talk to you all about somebody you might not know." Joe looked at everyone, "Me."
"For the longest time, I have been happy just to be a father figure to these two." Joe went on, "I mean- I have watched these two- grow up- and become- the amazing two people they are today. I mean- it was a true honor to watch Zee lose the dyed hair and graduate from college. And now be the woman that- Barry loves."
Joe continues, "And then Wally comes along and then watching them face what they have in the last few years with grace, and trust, and love, so much love- you see two people who love like that and you want it, too."
"Oh, I'm in this speech." Cecile giggles once Joe pulls her in front of everyone.
"Yes, you are." Joe smiles, "So, Barry, Zee, thank you for showing me how to love again. For showing me that love is the most important thing we have." Joe sniffles, "I love you guys. To Barry and Zee."
Everyone raises their glasses, saying in unison, "To Barry and Zee."
After the toast, the next few minutes were filled with different conversations, and laughs, and cheers between all of us.
Happiness was erupting everywhere, no disruption, absolutely nothing. It was a quiet, peaceful, joyful night.
Catching all of our attention, causing us all to quiet down was Felicity's slight shout and blurt, "Oliver, I don't wanna marry you."
Felicity slowly backs away, looking at everyone as we all stared at her sudden outburst, before she quickly made her way out of Jitters, leaving us all speechless.
-
Today was the day. The day I would marry Barry Allen. And I was freaking out. I stood behind the doors, breathing heavily, my hands resting on my waist, as I was dressed in my wedding dress, a few moments away from me walking down the aisle.
I was overwhelmed with emotions that I couldn't quite pin on entirely.
I was happy, so happy. I was so happy that I was marrying Barry Allen. I was so happy that I was actually marrying the man of my dreams. The boy I drenched in blue paint. The man I never thought I could ever score. But here I was, ready to walk down the aisle.
I was shocked, because I never thought this would happen. I never thought that I'd be standing here today, moments away from marrying Barry Allen. I never thought in a universe where Barry Allen ended up with Iris West on a different earth, I would be standing here today, being the woman who would be with him on this earth.
I was nervous, because many different thoughts were washing over me. What if he had changed his mind last minute? What if he thought he wasn't ready for commitment? What if he left me at the alter?
"Zee- are you ready?" Joe comes next to me, as I looked at him, dropping the car I was fiddling with that Barry had written for me this morning after leaving me breakfast, that said bad luck for groom to see bride on wedding day!.
"Do I look ready?" I let out a shaky breath, picking up my bouquet, placing the card on the side. putting a strand of my loosely curled hair behind my ear.
"What's wrong?" Joe asks me, noticing the look of distress on my face.
"I'm nervous-" I admit, "What if Barry leaves the alter- what if doesn't want to commit to this relationship anymore- what if he isn't standing out there waiting for me- what if-"
"Calm down." Joe grabs my forearms, causing me to stop talking, "Zee- that man loves you more than anything. He has wanted to marry you- for so long. He's out there waiting for you."
Kara's voice fills our ears as she sang inside the church, a small smile forming on my lips when I heard what song. She was singing Electric Love by Børns. The song that was playing when Barry Allen proposed to me. I looked at Joe, taking a breath, "Okay- okay. Let's do this."
Joe smiles, linking his arm with mine, opening the doors, everyone getting up, facing me, watching Joe slowly walk me down the aisle. Iris, Felicity and Caitlin are smiling at me widely from where they stood, my eyes slowly trailing to Barry, who stood tall, smiling like an idiot watching me, tears glistening in his eyes.
Joe kisses my cheek, then lets go of me, putting a hand on Barry's back, whispering, "I wish your parents were here to see this."
"They are." Barry whispers back, smiling, before turning to me, grabbing my hands.
"Why are you crying?" I quietly whisper, a soft smile on my lips.
"You look- stunning." Barry whispers back, sniffling quietly, the smile on his face not being able to be wiped away.
"Everyone, please be seated." The priest spoke, "Welcome to you all. I'm honored to be presiding over the wedding of Barry Allen and Zee Young. Although I don't know them well, I know that this is a good match. How do I know that? Well-" He clears his throat, "Because of you, because of all of you. Looking out at their friends- and their family- and seeing the joy on all your faces, seeing how happy you are for them, tells me everything I need to know. It tells me that these two people deserve to be together. They deserve to be happy and fulfilled. And they deserve a long life together. And now to the standard housekeeping. Does anyone have just cause why these two should not be married? Speak now, or forever hold your peace."
Before anything could go on, the priest was killed right in front of our eyes, due to laser beams, everyone gasping, Barry and I's head snapping towards the entrance, many men running in, holding guns towards us all, a woman covered in a mass levitating in the sky, "Peace is overrated."
"Are you serious?" I scoff, my eyes wide at the sight.
"Nazis?" Oliver exhales in confusion.
"I hate Nazis." Barry and Kara say in unison.
The men start shooting, as Barry runs, grabbing each bullet, everyone in the audience screaming and gasping. Barry returns back beside me, dropping the bullets, as Jax and Professor Stein turn into Firestorm, one section of the church being destroy as they fired, sending some Nazis' off their feet.
"Get everybody out of here!" Kara shouts, pulling off her glasses, walking right towards the danger.
"Get everybody out, okay?" Barry tells Wally, looking around. I was crouched behind a bench, unzipping my dress, Barry coming over to me, crouching next to me, catching my attention, "Hey- I love you, okay?"
"I love you-" I fully unzip my dress, pulling the jewelry in my hair out, tossing it somewhere, kicking off my heels also.
"What're you doing?" Barry asks me, confused, watching my every action.
"Do I look like I can fight in my wedding dress?" I ask, pulling the straps of my bra and tank top onto my shoulders, readjusting it while it was tucked into my jeans, then slipping off the dress, tossing it somewhere, dusting off my jeans, slipping on socks and converse.
"Wait- you were wearing-" Barry starts to question, "You were wearing that under your dress?"
"Do you not know me at all?" I question, I grab my leather jacket from under the bench, jumping up, Barry standing us.
"God- I love you so much." Barry admires, pressing his lips into mine for a second.
"I love you- now go." I kiss his cheek then push him away, turning the other direction, taking out some Nazis' myself.
Everyone had brought out their abilities to fight these endless Nazis that came in. Everywhere I looked, there was someone else. Oliver was shooting his arrows, Barry was punching different Nazis and using his speed to knock them out, Cisco was using his vibe blasts, Killer Frost was throwing ice daggers, etc etc etc.
Eventually, we had all come to a part where majority of the Nazis were defeated, as Kara was on her knees, the woman's distorted voice sounding, "Stay down."
Kara turns, clapping her hands together, using her thunder clap, sending a shockwave, knocking her back, the sound loud, catching us all off guard, my hands going to my ears, glass all around us breathing.
Kara walks over to the woman, kicking her back with her super strength, the man who was fighting Oliver earlier, screaming, "No!"
The man jumps down, grabbing the woman, their faces still not revealed due to the masks they wore, "Fall back- everybody fall back."
He throws something on the ground, an explosion of light erupting in front of us, everyone squeezing their eyes shut. When we all opened our eyes, they were all gone.
Everyone slowly walks over to each other, my feet halting the minute I'm by Barry, breathing heavily, blood dripping down my cheek from having a small cut.
My head snaps towards Cisco, as I bend over, trying to wake up him, as he was laid, completely knocked out.
Kara and Barry bend over also, trying to wake Cisco up, as Mick spoke, "Best wedding ever."
-
"Zee-" Barry walks into the cortex, engulfing me into a hug immediately, snapping me out of my thoughts about Cisco's being, "I'm so sorry."
"It's okay-" I tighten my grip, "None of us expected someone to crash the wedding."
"Clearly you did." Barry pulls away from me, holding my forearms, looking at him, "I did not expect you to be fully prepared for a fight under that wedding dress."
"Well- I had a feeling." I shrug lightly, "Nothing good ever lasts too long."
"I am going to marry you." Barry reassures me, pulling me close.
"I know." I nod, "The most important thing right now is that we're all okay."
"Your cheek-" Barry touches the dry blood, noticing the healed cut.
"It's healed- I'm fine." I grab a wipe, wiping away the blood, tossing it out.
Barry pulls me close again, holding me tight until Wally, and Joe walk in, Wally speaking, "So, what's the game plan?"
"There is none yet. Whoever attacked us knows who we are, so I think just get Joe, Iris and Cecile as far away as possible." Barry told him.
"Oh, no way, man." Wally denies, "I have to help out.
Come on."
"You're helping by keeping our family safe." Barry assures him, putting a hand on my lower back.
"He's right." Joe nods, leaving the cortex with Wally.
Eventually, everyone else comes into the cortex, Oliver being the first one to speak, "Until we know what these people want, nobody's safe." Mick walks in, catching our attention, "You wiped the minds of the guests at the wedding?"
"Yep." Mick nods, "Everyone's secret identity remains secret."
"Any idea where they fled?" I question, crossing my arms.
"No." Kara shook her head, "I flew over the entire city, there's no trace of them."
"Well, clearly they attacked because you all were there." I spoke,
"Killers, heroes, then what?" Barry runs a hand through his hair.
"If I know my history, ethnic cleansing, world domination." Felicity blurts out.
"Make America Aryan again." Jax spoke.
"Which it never was." Caitlin remarks.
"I hate Nazis." Mick mutters.
"Their appearance seems quite a severe course of action in support of a cause that was defeated over 70 years ago." Professor Stein said.
"Apparently they didn't know about the Yalta Conference." Barry follows up.
"What's a Yalta?" Mick asks.
"That woman didn't seem surprised to see me." Kara says, looking at us.
"How did she even know you were on this Earth? And how was she as strong as you?" Alex questions.
"That archer matched me, shot for shot." Oliver exclaims, "You know, I think it's time we got some answers."
Jax sighs, "Yeah, he ain't exactly talking."
"So let's make him talk." Oliver stares at the monitor that showed a Nazi we had brought back from everything that went down, to get answers.

Blightbane
Miscellaneous Notes: - I want to see about making a crude map of Shroud to help readers. - I also want to get back to writing Coalescence updates. Schedule Notes: - None for now, updates when I can. [ Thank you for your patience and support as I improve my writing and storytelling abilities. I'm also using this story to better develop lore that extends far beyond it. ] Thanks to another exceptionally talented artist, Hiroeth, Blightbane now has an official cover! Vera was alone again. “You’re completely unprepared. Never before has sending one of you off made me feel quite so guilty.” Whenever she found herself in doubt, she would weigh her actions against the guiding principles of the one whom she revered. “When you don’t know the rules of the game, start making them up. When you are constrained by unfavorable conditions, inject a little chaos.” It was the supplementary message that concerned Vera the most. It was difficult to follow because it was intentionally vague and mired in subjectivity. “How can I enjoy myself when you look so tormented? Are we in danger?” Vera fell silent. An experiment is taking place on a planetary scale. Across the surface of the planet, a phenomenon referred to as "Blight" is spreading. Festering regions defended by fierce creatures called “blightbeasts” taint the surface, warping the land and proliferating unceasingly. Among the sentient creatures of the planet, it is the Blightbane Guild’s responsibility to stem the tide. They endeavor to cleanse the land in a struggle of attrition, but they are losing ground. A young man named Caim has been uprooted from his former life and transported to The Shrouded Theocracy, an isolationist nation with fanatical policies. He must struggle to survive with only an unfamiliar strain of magic to aid him. There is a secret to this magic. One he knows very little about. He intends to explore just what makes this magic special. On the far border of the theocracy, a mage scientist named Inis discovers a revolutionary new way to infuse strength from defeated blightbeasts. Using herself as a test subject, this process allows her to grasp magical concepts previously thought beyond her reach. Though she tries to document any side effects that arise, something escapes her awareness. She is playing with a dangerous force that will claim her most treasured asset if she isn't careful. Everyone and everything on the planet is a part of the experiment. The experiment is a lie.

Author's Notes: I appreciate you taking a look at my novel, The Girl from the Mountain. If you're a fan of post-apocalyptic fiction, military thrillers, and/or cosmic horror, I think you'll enjoy this story. I completed the novel's first draft back in 2011 and made significant changes in 2016. Since then, I've more-or-less sat on the manuscript while working on other projects. Thanks to a bit of prodding, I've decided to send this story out into the wild with some touch-ups and additional revisions. I welcome any comments or criticisms, and I hope you enjoy The Girl from the Mountain!
